Lehoux looking to make his mark
By KEN WIEBE, STAFF REPORTER
Jason Lehoux was looking to make a statement. After sitting out the first seven games of the new AHL season, the new enforcer for the Manitoba Moose made his debut last night against the Hamilton Bulldogs.
And Lehoux was planning to leave enough of an impression to help him spend more time on the ice and less time up in the press box.
"You have to make a statement every game and the statement I can make is that I'm always going to show up and work hard," said Lehoux, a 6-foot-3, 225-pound winger from Ste. Marie, Que. "I'm the kind of guy who gets nervous, even if it doesn't look like it. This has never happened to me that I've spent so much time in the stands."
Lehoux spent the first three years of his pro career in the New Jersey Devils system with the Albany River Rats, but GM Lou Lamoriello told him this past summer that he was not in the parent club's future plans.
FRESH START
So Lehoux went looking around for a fresh start and after numerous conversations with Moose GM Craig Heisinger, he opted to go to prospects camp with the Vancouver Canucks in an effort to secure a contract.
