That was the first article at USCHO. Follow the links on the left side of the page for subsequent articles which will have more links. There are quite a few.
But it is a great story.

Funny, I thought we already covered the Joe Exter story.
Mack: Here's the short version. Back on March 8 in a game between Merrimack and BC, an incident that took place nearly cost a player Merrimack Netminder Joe Exter his life.....literally!
It happened on a play where Eaves was skating up the ice with a full head of steam towards the Merrimack net. Exter came out to try and make a diving poke check on Eaves. Eaves either couldn't or didn't (depending upon who you ask) slow down or try to get around Exter to avoid colliding with him. I don't think Eaves could've anticipated Exter going down the way he did to poke check the puck away. Anyway, Eaves' knee (I believe it was) hit the side of Exter's head, which apparently knocked off Exter's mask. Then Exter's unprotected head hit the ice. Exter was knocked unconscious. He began bleeding out of ears. Meanwhile, while Exter laid on the ice motionless, all heck broke loose between the teams. Exter was taken away in an ambulance. He was diagnosed with a fractured skull (among other things). Exter remained in a coma for almost 2 weeks. It was believed at first that Exter would die. But miraculously he lived and from what I understand, is doing very well, enjoying life and trying to make a hockey comeback.
BTW, while Exter was in the hospital, the Merrimack College Site had set up an area where people could leave get-well wishes for Exter. People from all over the hockey community (not just NCAA) left messages. Over 10,000 get-well messages were left for Exter, and mine was among them.
ttnorm: US College Hockey Magazine's (now USCHO Magazine.....I have no clue as to why the name change) recently had a great cover story about Patrick Eaves. Among the items covered was the emotional anguish/drain that he felt after the Joe Exter incident. Despite what some Merrimack fans think, Eaves is quoted as saying that the hit was unintentional (Exter believes it was too) and that he (Eaves) felt absolutely horrible about what happened to Joe. If I can find a link to the story, I'll post it here.
