Final Tribute to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim

Well, we have less than a week left as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. Let's use this thread to pay our tributes to the team. Tell us about some of your fondest memories. Tell us about some of your favorite players. Post some great pictures from throughout the history. Post some random facts about the team.

I'll just start with this..
http://images.art.com/images/products/large/10102000/10102741.jpg

If anyone has pics or videos of the Gaborik and Modano saves from those playoffs, please post them for posterity. I'm having trouble finding anything. I'll come back later to post some more "classic" Mighty Ducks memories.

One of my favorite days followed by one of my least favorite days in team history...

Feb. 7, 1996 Acquired RW Teemu Selanne, the rights to C Marc Chouinard, and a fourth round pick in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft from the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for C Chad Kilger, D Oleg Tverdovsky, and a third round pick in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.

Mar. 5, 2001 Acquired LW Jeff Friesen, G Steve Shields and future considerations from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for RW Teemu Selanne.

good ones
1.drafting Paul
2.trading for Teemu
3.J.S as a Conn Smythe winner
4.signing scotty
5.all PO games

bad ones
1.trading Teemu to San Jose (the biggest mistake in franchise history)
2.Paul leaving anaheim

2003 will live in not only my heart, but the hearts of all Duck fans forever. For me, series #1 was awesome. I have trouble remembering some of the other series' that year, and even the ones this year, but I remember those 4 games against Detroit more than anything. I'm confident I could tell you about almost every goal, if not every one of them. Those four games will be forever with me.

Thanks for the memories, Mighty Ducks. As a new era begins, you'll be in the hearts of all of us.

Probably our greatest goal ever scored. Too bad he did what he did.

That game - Game 6 of the 2003 Stanley Cup Finals - was our greatest game. When Kariya scored it was as loud as anywhere.
Second and third place go to Game 6 against Dallas in 2003 and Game 6 this year against Calgary.

Anaheim loves game 6's - the angels had a great one as well in 2002.

Fourth place goes to game 4 against Detroit in 2003 when we swept. I still have that broom and would like to use it again.

Was that the game in which Giguere came up with the puck - his arm raised straight up - without his helmet on?

If anybody has that picture, please post.

GO CAROLINA!

I was at that game. Everytime Sergei touched the puck, the large amount of Red Wings fans would boo him to no end. By the third period, everytime Sergei touched the puck Ducks fans would drown out the boos with cheers. When he got the game winner, I swear I've never heard the Pond explode like that. I remember a guy in a Flyers jersey kept high-fiving me everytime Anaheim scored. An amazing game.

Even though he wasn't all that memorable when he was here, I remember getting excited whenever Jeremy Stevenson would play. He was born in the same town I was, San Bernardino, so it was a bit of a big thing for me.

There are so many great memories:
1. Trading for Selanne
2. Going to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2003
3. Going down fighting in the Western Conference Finals this year.
4. Rucchin's OT goal that swept Detroit for good in 03.
5. The comeback against Detroit, 8-6
6. Giguere's amazing save against the Wild in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals in 2003
7. The purchase of the franchise by the Samueli's and the hiring of Brian Burke.
8. The signing of Scott Niedermayer
9. Sykora's game winner in the 5th Overtime against Dallas in Game 1 in 2003

I have a few memorable moments with the "Mighty Ducks of Anaheim"...

Years ago, it was easy to get signatures on jerseys and hats, but nowadays it's not the same. During the 2003 run, I got Getzlaf to actually sign my hat, of course, so did the rest of the team.

A memorable night, though not at the pond, me and like 15 girl duck fans were playing at the Nationals (a local restaurant/billiard place). Anyhow, it was after a game and we all just wanted to chill out and play. Late into the night, Sami Pahlsson and Mikael Holmqvist came in and played pool nearby. Next thing I know, all of the girls ended up at their table and I got stuck with all of their cameras taking pics. Sami and Mikael were quite amusing and sharp witted comedians!

My first NHL game of the season was a Pre-Season game with the Ducks against the Sharks in San Jose and my second/last game of the season was game five of the WCF.

Burke has done an AMAZING job this season with the Ducks mainly cutting all the Cancer out of the locker room. Watching the Ducks in the Pre-Season and in the WCF was like watching two different teams. You all should be stoked for the future of this team.

Even though I'm a Canucks fan, I have been listening to Ducks games whenever I can on AM 1090 and one of my Fondest Memories was telling everyone on the Canucks board to keep an eye out for Andy McDonald. He's going to have a great season this year. Of course everyone blew me off and what happens when the Ducks made their first visit to Vancouver? McDonald burned them. Everyone in Vancouver was like 'Wow that McDonald is good.

What can you do?

Anybody else remember the Ducks' first goal in game 3 of the 2003-2004 Finals? The puck is sliding towards Brodeur, he comes out to play the puck, drops the stick, and just stands and watches the puck deflect off his dropped stick and go in the goal.

My other favorite memory is when Kariya got knocked out by Stevens, but came back and scored a goal.

Kariya's the reason why I first became a Ducks fan...shame he bailed on them.

Favorite moment was Kariya's big playoff goal. I've never been so pumped up before. Also really enjoyed his 50th goal. Tverdovski made a nice pass on the play if I remember correctly.

I remember (i was 9 or 10) being at a game first or second or third season where they scored with something like .3 seconds left in overtime (before the pity point) That was great.

Also when Pierre Turgeone picked a fight with Tony Hrkas and got ko'd in one punch.

Two more things I really enjoyed were the two severe beatdowns Beauchemin layed down this year.

Don't we all remember how amazing it was to watch Kariya and Selanne in their hayday? Every shift was a scoring chance.

Who can forget the power-play-back-door-to-Fredrick-Olausson play? That one was good for like 20 goals that year.

I also remember at the meet the players crap at disneyland asking for Dave Karpa's signiature twice. He said "you already got me buddy" haha. I forgot that he already signed that hat. Bet it made him feel good.

Well, tomorrow's the last day for existence of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. I'll be wearing by jersey in tribute, and I'm sure I'm not alone(I wore my Niedermayer shirt today as well). Outdated as these shirts might be, I know I'll still wear them, even though by the end of the summer I hope to have a new Ducks jersey(if they're nice), a new Ducks shirt and that new draft cap(if that's the real one).

Even with my hardest final coming then, I definetely cannot wait for Thursday. The beginning of a new era for our team.

Hey Anaheim Ducks. Congratulations on finally getting rid of "The Mighty" part of your name. I think now The Ducks will finally be getting some respect and dropping the dreaded Disney image. Maybe next a refined logo? Anyway, good job in keeping the Anaheim city name. ;)

I FOUND IT!!! Who is good? Oh yah. :wg:

EDIT: Uh, Davey beat me to it. Nice. :)

Okay, I'm not a Ducks fan, well I love the movies :D, but came here to see what the fans were saying about the upcomming name change (which I think is just rediculous). Point is that I,ve never seen this jersey before and I think its awesome, lol. How can you guys not like it?

So its a best memories thread, so my best memory is when coach bombay....sorry...lol.

Ducks have always been my second favourite team.

The first NHL game I saw was the Senators vs. The Mighty Ducks at the old Ottawa Civic Centre back when I was 7 or 8. I'm pretty sure it was 1995, I have the ticket stub somewhere.

But my favourite moment was the 2003 Playoff run- from Gigeure's great performance(s) to Kariya's blast in Game 6 of the finals.

Here's to more years of success.
