Teemu RE-SIGNS WITH ANAHEIM!Blue Buck* 06-12-2006, 09:02 PM http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=168617&hubname= McDonald19 06-12-2006, 09:08 PM Sources tell TSN that forward Teemu Selanne is on the verge of signing a contract extension with the Anaheim Ducks. He is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. not official yet... TeMoZ 06-12-2006, 09:15 PM great news :handclap: Static 06-12-2006, 09:28 PM any idea on the amount? Ducksforcup 06-13-2006, 12:15 AM OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 :) :yo:  :handclap: :yo:  SELANNE!!! Ducksforcup 06-13-2006, 11:25 AM http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/sports/pros/article_1178941.php The Mighty Ducks are expected to announce today that popular right wing Teemu Selanne, the team's leading scorer in 2005-06, has agreed to terms on a new one-year contract. Selanne stood to become an unrestricted free agent July 1, two days before he will turn 36. He returned to the Ducks in August by signing a one-year contract worth $1 million after having completed a yearlong rehabilitation from major knee surgery. Armed once again with the speed that made him a superstar with the Winnipeg Jets and the Ducks in the 1990s, Selanne tied for 10th among NHL goal scorers with 40. :handclap: :handclap: :handclap: :handclap: :handclap: Snap Wilson 06-13-2006, 11:31 AM One year deal. Fantastic. Just nice to have it out of the way. Naturally, I'm curious about the money, though. Pwnasaurus 06-13-2006, 12:01 PM Interesting...I was thinking Teemu would want a 2 year deal Chistov23 06-13-2006, 01:06 PM Interesting...I was thinking Teemu would want a 2 year deal I think he said he would probably only sign 1 year contracts the rest of his career, as after each season he will reflect and see if he will continue or not. Gardebut30 06-13-2006, 02:29 PM It'll be fun to see Teemu get his 500th next season now soya_sauce_chicken 06-13-2006, 02:59 PM That's great news... Now we just need one more speedy forward.. Chistov coming back?? :dunno: braincramp 06-13-2006, 03:43 PM The CBA permits performance bonuses for a player of Selanne's age who signs a 1-year contract. They do count toward the cap. Jerky Leclerc 06-13-2006, 04:12 PM The number floating around is 3.75 million. Sounds good. banana phone 06-13-2006, 04:48 PM The number floating around is 3.75 million. Sounds good. great deal. TheJoeMan 06-13-2006, 04:58 PM 3.75 is perfect if it's true. What's more is it'll also be the place setter for the rest of our forwards that need to resign and should help keep them from boating to bad. Somewhat modest, but still deserved raises are what is going to keep this team together and give us room for a FA signing or two. I'm just so happy that Teemu got signed up before July 1st, I didn't want other teams to tempt him with big contracts. Snap Wilson 06-13-2006, 05:17 PM According to the CBC: "The Ducks signed their leading scorer to a one-year, $3.75-million US contract on Tuesday. The deal also includes some performance bonuses." Depending on what those bonuses are, could be a hefty cap hit. I figured if it was a 1 year deal they would have a low base with several easily attainable bonus'..guess not. for that he should only have a bonus for scoring 40 goals/conn smythe/mvp etc. Kick Save 06-13-2006, 07:06 PM The CBA permits performance bonuses for a player of Selanne's age who signs a 1-year contract. They do count toward the cap. Does the entire, aggregate amount of the bonuses count toward the cap? In other words, if can earn separate bonuses for scoring 40 goals or more, say, 90 points plus, making the All-Star team, being amongst the top five in scoring, etc., do you have to count each of those bonuses towards the cap? If so, the cap hit could be in the $5 mil + range. Anyway, Teemu deserves some additional compensation for signing for such a modest sum last summer. All bonuses are counted against the cap, even if the player doesn't make them. It's to stop all player signing with stupid things like play one game or score one goal with a value in the millions. I think that the bonuses are part of the 3.75, but I'm only guessing. How do we go about finding out what he's getting? Osprey 06-13-2006, 08:04 PM With the way that Selanne and Burke are quoted in the AP story (about the signing being well under market value), I expected something closer to last year, something under $2M. $3.75M seems to me to be about what he's worth. I'm not complaining, since it's great that he's re-signed, but I don't know about this talk that it's well under market value at his age and with his history. The amount seems just about right. :) Ducksforcup 06-13-2006, 08:26 PM http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=2482563 Anaheim re-signed leading scorer Teemu Selanne to a one-year deal Tuesday, keeping the right winger who helped the Mighty Ducks make a surprising run to the Western Conference finals. Selanne proved a unifying force in the dressing room for the Ducks, who lost to Edmonton in five games. "This is a player who wanted to stay. He made some concessions financially to do that and we're grateful," said Ducks general manager Brian Burke, who took a chance and signed Selanne last August when he was coming off knee surgery. Selanne had 40 goals and 50 assists in 80 games this season. He led the Ducks in goals, points (90), power-play goals (18), power-play points (40) and plus/minus (plus-28). His 90 points were the most he had scored in a single season since he had 107 in 1998-99 with Anaheim. In 16 playoff games, he led the Ducks with 14 points (six goals and eight assists). He struggled against Edmonton, with one goal, and didn't contribute on the power play. "The money wasn't the issue," Selanne said by phone from his offseason home in Helsinki, Finland. "I was so happy they gave me the opportunity to come back there last year and the whole year was so much fun." "This is an opportunity for Brian to make some other moves," he said. "It's all about winning right now. I'm very happy what has happened with our team. That's why I wanted to sign so early. They see the whole picture a little earlier." "The youngsters are going to be a year older and they're going to be better," Selanne said. "I feel so strong about this team. It was a very easy decision for me." Ruslan Salei is another impending free agent, and goaltender Jean-Sebastian Giguere has been the subject of trade rumors. "We're trying to keep the group together by and large that put the run together this year, and do more next year," Burke said. (The rest of the article talks about money issues). SELANNE IS SO COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :yo: He took less money so that Burke can sign other players. Selanne Jerky Leclerc 06-13-2006, 08:46 PM Its BS that teams have to give up revenues from the playoffs back to the league. What's the point of the making the playoffs? The Ducks lost 15 million bucks this season when we made it all the way to the Conference final. Somehow, this just don't sound right. BraveSirRobin 06-13-2006, 08:59 PM Glad to hear he signed. About the right salary too. Osprey 06-13-2006, 10:21 PM SELANNE IS SO COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :yo: He took less money so that Burke can sign other players.I like Selanne, but $3.75M isn't exactly doing Burke any big favor here. stalbert1 06-13-2006, 10:29 PM I like Selanne, but $3.75M isn't exactly doing Burke any big favor here. Considering he is our best forward and one of our leaders, 3.75 for 1 year is a hell of a deal. :handclap: McDonald19 06-13-2006, 10:49 PM I like Selanne, but $3.75M isn't exactly doing Burke any big favor here. The performances bonuses is what concerns me. Bobby Ryan Getzlaf 06-13-2006, 10:50 PM I like Selanne, but $3.75M isn't exactly doing Burke any big favor here. I'd say he is. A 40 goal scorer and 90 point getter could demand a hell of alot more than $3.75 million. I assumed we'd sign him for at least 4 and still do alot in the offseason, so this was a very nice move for both sides. Spankatola Jamnuts 06-13-2006, 10:57 PM I was hoping for a much lower number from Teemu. Doesn't seem like much of a hometown discount, especially if there truly are performance bonuses. Given Teemu's history of getting out of shape in the offseason I'm a little concerned. Jerky Leclerc 06-14-2006, 12:50 AM I was hoping for a much lower number from Teemu. Doesn't seem like much of a hometown discount, especially if there truly are performance bonuses. Given Teemu's history of getting out of shape in the offseason I'm a little concerned. The hometown discount was the 1 million dollar salary he signed last season. With how little he was paid last season, I don't think the Ducks are in any position to ask him to take less money than market value. Ducksforcup 06-14-2006, 01:06 AM Chock, just think of it this way. If this wasn't Selanne, we would be ESTATIC to sign a 90 point scorer at 3.75 million. :) Spankatola Jamnuts 06-14-2006, 01:09 AM Ha. You need to read my posts more. I'm never ecstatic. Ducksforcup 06-14-2006, 01:10 AM Ha. You need to read my posts more. I'm never ecstatic. True. :biglaugh: Good point. :teach: Let me rephrase then, you would be satisfied. ;) Randall Graves* 06-14-2006, 02:16 AM Its BS that teams have to give up revenues from the playoffs back to the league. I agree, why should teams making the playoffs be giving what they make to teams that suck? soya_sauce_chicken 06-14-2006, 04:56 PM might seems like a good deal becaue Selanne was stated by the LA Times could get 5 mil from other teams. he also stated that if the Ducks would have won the SC this year, he probably would have retired.. abracanada 06-17-2006, 09:23 AM Selanne resigns at 3.75 mill for one year.
