McCabe?

Would you guys accept him on this team?
I guess his wife is calling the shots and his deal with T.O isn't as done as thought.
She doesn't want to leave the NY area because she suffers from post-pardom (sp) and really needs the family support.

I never want to see McCabe on the Devils, even if he was playing for the league minimum. Defensemen need to play defense, and I'm not sure McCabe knows how to do that.

I chose never because I think he is suspect defensivley. He's not a Devils type defenseman.

I would almost want him as a power play specialist and when the team is in need of an all-out attack, but his price-tag prevents that.

I think McCabe is too much like Gonchar or even Ozolinsh. Gifted offensively, but a risk in the defensive zone. That type of guy doesn't fit into the Devils system.

Take him.

Please.

Sign him and then give us Martin so we can laugh even harder at you.

OK, how about "6 shots"
Is that better?

actually yes. :D

Originality is key to any great comeback.

The 1967 thing is just too easy.

Are those the average attendance figures for Devils home games?

Of course I kid.

NJD, you took serious offense to what wasn't intended as such.

I was just implying that it would be extremely foolish to sign McCabe, and that it would be equally foolish to give us Martin for nothing.

I guess I'm in the minority that likes McCabe. If he wanted to come here for 3-3.5 per, I'd love to have him. His blast from the point would help us immeasurably and his snarl would also help the defense corps. That being said, however, somebody's gonna pay him 5-5.5 per year for 3-5 years, so we won't even be in the McCabe sweepstakes. I think he ends up back on the Islanders.

As a Flyers fan, I would love to see McCabe in Red and Black, especially if his contract is absurd.

there is not a single team in the NHL that wont take McCabe for the league minimum. Give me a break! Yeah, he's not as good defensively, but he's better than many guys playing in the NHL. Stop making these stupid remarks! :shakehead

It's okay, I figured as much.

It's incredibly easy to mis-interpret short responses.

And yes, I do understand the significance of 1967. It's actually just about the saddest thing in sports. But that's what happens when a penny pinching jerk runs the team for 20+ years.

I'd take him for a reduced price. No more than 3.5 a year, and preferably (but not reasonably) around 2.5 mill. Limit his time at even strength, and when he does go out at ES, stick him with a veteran defensive d-man (White, Matvichuck). Our powerplay really lacks a nice bomb from the point, and thats what McCabe would give us. I'd stick him out there for the entire powerplay. Without much danger on our point on the PP, the other teams PK unit could play further down low and much tigther on our offensive guys. Without any worry over giving up a shot from the point, since it would most likely be a weak wrister hoping for a lucky bounce/deflection.

It is not as stupid as the amount of money TO paid for him.

This coming from a fan of the Devils, did you develop alzheimer's during the season and forget about some of the ridiculous contracts the devils were giving out last summer. Malakhov at 3.6 million, Mogilny at 3.5 million, and finally Mcgillis at 2.2 million.

I agree those contracts were rediculous. But they were given those deals by a GM who has won 3 Stanley Cups and won the division and made the playoffs this season despite those signings.

Unlike the Leafs however, the Devils brass learned from their mistakes and stopped playing those players. Allison, Khavanov, and O'Neill were all collosal failures with the Leafs but were still played game in and game out.

That's just my opinion. I, personally, would not want McCabe on the Devils, no matter what the price. I'm not saying the Devils wouldn't sign him in a heartbeat if they were only paying him the league minimum, but I can't stand him.

Those are some of my projections.

Basically, if you factor in $2.37M for buying out Malakhov/Mogilny, the Devils have enough to re-sign Elias and give Gomez and Gionta raises, but not much else. Look to see either Lukowich/Matvichuk dealt to free up some space for a puck-moving d-man. Someone in the Perreault mold, I gather, for second line center for cheaper. We could also lose one extra to free up $500k.

I also think that going with 22 players instead of 23 is a good option. If someone got hurt and was expected to miss five to ten days, a player could be recalled from the AHL and sent back after that period.

I certainly hope Greene could be that third puck-moving D, but I would rather not take a chance and be left scrambling in September to trade for someone.

For some reason, even though I've never seen Greene play, I think he's gonna shock a lot of people and grab a spot right out of camp. I think he might be the second coming of Rafalski. I think Lou expects him to make it out of camp as well, as Greene is signed at like 800k/year.

Hale-GreeneThe reason I think Greene has a very good shot is because of how well he played in college. He was a finalist for the Hobby Baker award this past winter. He had a better senior year at than either Paul Martin or David Hale had, and they were pretty good. Both of those guys made the Devils roster playing as they made their professional debut.
