Evilo 06-06-2006, 10:39 AM Let's get this going.
Rules are :
You pick a score for each game and a scorer.
Example : Team A 2-1 Team B (Scorer X).
You get 5 points if the outcome is right (Team A wins).
You get 10 points if the score is right (Team A wins 2-1).
You get 5 points per goal scored by your scorer (5 points if scorer X scores 1, 10 points if he scores 2, etc...).
If you predict a scoreless draw and you're right, you'll get 15 points+5 point if you named no scorer. However, you can also pick a scorer even if you predicted a 0-0 draw.
I'll ask each of you to count its own points (gentleman's agreement here) so that I don't have to make a huge recount everyday.
Don't forget to post your predictions for every game. You can post it until the kickoff.
Good luck to all!

Thought about that as well I'll fix it now and remove the saturday predictions.
Evilo 06-09-2006, 03:06 PM OK, I calculated all the scores.
9 are tied for the lead with 15 points (Germany win, Klose with two goals).
Frolov had Klose, but not the Germany win, so he has 10 points.
The others only had the Germany win, but not the scorer, so they have 5 points.
Everyone had 0 point for the Poland-Ecuador win.
That'll teach me to trust my instincts, as I first thought about an Ecuador win... :madfire:

They have a few other players who play in the Bundesliga. Mahdavikia plays for Hamburg, Hashemian plays for Hannover (and I think he was Asian player of the year a few years back), and they have Zandi who also plays in Germany. Oh yes, they also have Ali Daei, who is 38 years old! Despite his age, he has loads of experience, and is actually the all-time leading international scorer.
I have a lot of Iranian friends, who have been indoctrinating me as to how good Iran actually is. I followed their qualification round and thought they were impressive. They have an incredible spirit right now, and I think Karimi is the type of player that can spurn on an upset. They are not the same type of team they were back in 1998 by any means.

Didn't Iraq beat Portugal at the Olympics? :yo:
Of course, Portugal is heavily favoured, but as evidenced today, and in previous World Cups, anything is possible.
BTW, this is a prediction thread, so I'll stop talking after this post.

Fair enough. Incidentally, the Iranians I work with haven't been forceful in said indoctrination. One even agreed that it was Karimi and 10 scrubs. But it's the World Cup, anything can happen.

If nobody scores, you get 5 points for the scorer if it ends as a scoreless draw.
However, I thought I'd let you know you had the right of putting one scorer even if you predict a 0-0 draw.
Yeah, I remember that part, thanks. You should edit this into the original post I think.

Safir* 06-16-2006, 02:37 AM How about we change the rating system a little for the round of the last 16?
Here are my suggestions:
- submit the predictions via PM or Email to two posters, who count the point (Evilo, Belgian Fan or me for example.)--> the reason. O=S could just pad the lead and roll on dice.
- double the score for each item so that poster in the midfield still have the chance to get to the top.
What do you think?
Evilo 06-16-2006, 02:53 AM I'm not too much for it.
I don't think O=S can cheat anyway, since we are many who can catch him, and we won't have the same predictions.

Italy vs. US 2-0 (Toni)
Evilo 06-17-2006, 03:49 AM Thanks #16 for the update.
I'm fine with the double score as well, but only for the knockout stage. Not right now (doesn't make sense to me).
My predictions :
Portugal 3-0 Iran (Pauleta)
Czech Republic 1-1 Ghana (Nedved)
Italy 3-0 USA (Toni)
Safir* 06-17-2006, 04:35 AM New rules for the round of the last sixteen and following:
You pick a score for each game and a scorer.
Example : Team A 2-1 Team B (Scorer X).
You get 10 points if the outcome is right (Team A wins).
You get 20 points if the score is right (Team A wins 2-1).
You get 10 points per goal scored by your scorer (10 points if scorer X scores 1, 20 points if he scores 2, etc...).
---
Something else, since those will be knockout games.
What should be done with the score in case of an Overtime and SO game? Overtime winner or SO winner? Can't we try to arrange a way to predict a game going in OT or SO and the winner?
Example:
1.) Germany vs. Sweden: 3-2 (2-2) OT (Ballack)
-> 10 pts for the correct outcome+ 20 pts for the correct score+ 10 pts one for Ballack goal & 5 points for the correct OT outcome+ 10 pts for the correct OT score+ 5 pts for the correct scorer
Or should we also double the score for OT?
2.) Germany vs. Sweden: 7-6 (2-2) SO (Ballack)
-> 10 pts for the correct outcome+ 20 pts for the correct score+ 10 pts one for Ballack goal & 15 pts for the correct SO outcome+ 25 points for the correct SO score.
:dunno:
Evilo 06-17-2006, 05:05 AM Hmm, OT scores seem a bit complicated to me.
Frolov 6'3 06-17-2006, 06:52 AM Portugal vs. Iran 1-0 (Pauleta)
Czech Republic vs. Ghana 2-1 (Nedved)
Italy vs. US 3-1 (Toni)

I was thinking about this yesterday.. How about you predict a scoreline after 90 minutes (which will then be scored just like the group games, except for double points), and if you post a draw then you bold the team you predict will win it in overtime/penalties, for extra points.
And perhaps also extra points if your goalscorer scores the winning goal in overtime?
Evilo 06-17-2006, 07:11 AM That would be OK.
When you post a draw, you can bold the team that you think will win in OT.
Scorers' goals can be awarded 5 more points per OT goal.
However, if you post a draw with a team in bold and that this team wins in regulation time, you don't get any point.

Evilo 06-17-2006, 03:54 PM Damn it, I was the only one to predict a Ghana positive result, but only predicted a draw.
Next time, I really have to trust my instincts.
Karppa, could you please avoid editing your post AFTER a game was played?
You edited your after the Portugal game, and I honestly can't say if your Portugal score was made before or edited.
Since I trust you, I'll believe you, but it's not really fair to others.
So if you guys want to edit a scored, make a new post about it before the next game.
Anyway, update made.
