DTOWNRY 06-05-2006, 04:15 PM Patrick Davis was signed a week ago by the Devils. With the cap situation and lower contracts for the younger guys...look for a guy like Davis to fill spots that Tallackson or Ryznar might have had in the Devil's lineup. At 6'-2.5 / 213 and 68 pts in the OHL, and based on his camp last year it may be a possibility.
Ronnie Bass 06-05-2006, 04:18 PM He is too green to have an immediate roster spot on the Devils, expect him to spend at least one year at Lowell.
Belizarius 06-05-2006, 04:23 PM He'll return to junior IMO. He finished the season very strong after the trade to Windsor and he's going to have an important role next year in the OHL.
He seemed to be decent for his 1st pro games with Albany but he's too young to play for Lowell next season.
I think he could also challenge for a roster spot for Team USA U-20.
Anyway, it's probably one of our best offensive prospect, probably the lone pure sniper of our pool. :)
DTOWNRY 06-05-2006, 04:45 PM He will not be in Windsor next year as an overager. Green??? He will be 20 in December...
Definitely not too young for Lowell...he is an 86' that means he is AHL legal.
I will bet anyone on this board $20 US that he sees an NHL game next year.
Any takers?

I'm assuming he means Lowell, unless we traded Tallackson and Ryznar and no one knows about it, except the person that posted the original thread.

Any takers?20 is green. Playing on three games as a professional is also green.
Jason Ryznar will be 24 next February, and Barry Tallackson turns 24 next April. Ryznar had 8 Games Played with the Devils and Tallacskson had 10 GP.
How much less than Tallackson's $510,000 and Ryznar's $500,000 in 2005-06 could Davis possibly make? I wouldn't say "might have had" with Tallackson and Ryznar because they both have good chances of playing in New Jersey next season.
Patrick Davis played three games in Albany this past season. His 0 Points pale in comparison to Stephen Gionta's 5 G and 6 PTS in the same number of games.

I agree completely. Tallackson and Ryznar will make the team next year and we will see Stephen Gionta before we see PAtrick Davis. He is a roster spot on a Lowell team that will break in the future Devils. Cannot say he will be one for sure.
cjmurph 06-05-2006, 07:45 PM With the Devils pressed up against the cap, probably 3 or 4 rookie forwards will get significant playing time. Most likely neither Davis or Gionta will contribute next year though. Stephen Gionta is Steve Kariya; famous older brother, pretty good college player, probably a decent AHLer, not likely to amount to much in the NHL.

I'll bet anyone here Gionta gets several looks next season, if not makes the team. He really wowed me when I saw him with the Rats. It's not just his goal total but his speed and forechecking ability which really impressed. He also took the body frequently, and knocked several bigger players down with checks. He was all over the ice. Gionta had the same # of points college as Tallackson, so there is obviously some ability there. There are players, too, who translate to the pros better than they did to college. We'll see, but I was really impressed.
devsfan8 06-05-2006, 09:28 PM Of the 3 prospects the Devils signed today (Davis being one of them) The other two are bigger prospects. Mark Fraser and Sean Zimmerman.
NJDevils18 06-05-2006, 09:35 PM Does anybody know the specifics like money or length, or is it just for a tryout? Thanks.

Wow, I hope Zimmerman takes some of that money from his contract and invest in some clearasil.

They come from a good, hardworking family.
I think Stepehn could become a quality pest-type player like his brother was during the Devils 2002-03 Stanley Cup Championship season. He could be a 20 goal-scorer two or three seasons from now with the Devils.
David Puddy 06-05-2006, 10:51 PM Does anybody know the specifics like money or length, or is it just for a tryout? Thanks.I doubt its a tryout. All three of these guys were drafted by the Devils in 2005 and played a few games at Albany at the end of the 2005-06 season.
DTOWNRY 06-05-2006, 11:00 PM So is everyone going to keep jaw flappin or take me up on my bet?
Davis has a lower salary out of any of the forwards and a no games played bonus which means pound for pound a better bet than Barry or Jason.
Junior players are much higher caliber at a younger age than these college prospects the devils keep drafting so don't count his age...
Soooo he didn't score in his AHL games...
Well he just came off a 70 GAME SEASON and OHL playoffs...boarded a plan next day after his last playoff game with an injured shoulder and played WITHOUT A CONTRACT...
How hard would you play tired, injured and FOR FREE??? Risking your career for what? And for the ********* team in the league...at the end of a crap season with no hope of playoffs
C'mon give your head a shake...
So anyone want to put their money where their mouth is ?????? Bet is still open...
DTOWNRY 06-05-2006, 11:04 PM Davis makes the team before Tallackson or Ryznar
$20 bucks...
Any takers...
Those guys are not that good, really they're not...and Davis is much cheaper.

Tallackson isn't good? :shakehead
I'll take that bet. Davis has some potential, but Bergfors, Tallackson, and Zajac are all before him on the charts.

No doubt about it. And, like Puddy said, you can include S. Gionta to that list and I throw in Petr Vrana.
devsfan8 06-05-2006, 11:10 PM Tommy Albelin signing for 450K would have more of an effect on the Devils Cap then the difference in salaries of Tallackson/Ryznar and PAtrick Davis.

I also see Clarkson possibly getting a cup of coffee next year.
We certainly have a lot of options on the 4th line with your young guys. Hopefully Tallackson, Bergfors, and co. can play some in the top 6.
David Puddy 06-05-2006, 11:15 PM So is everyone going to keep jaw flappin or take me up on my bet?
Davis has a lower salary out of any of the forwards and a no games played bonus which means pound for pound a better bet than Barry or Jason. The Devils would likely be better served keeping the roster spot clear than put Davis on the roster. That's a $450,000 savings.
Junior players are much higher caliber at a younger age than these college prospects the devils keep drafting so don't count his age...[/QUOTE]Give me a break! They play against little boys. At least in the NCAA, they are playing 18-24 year olds.
Also, Ryznar and Tallackson have already played a season in the AHL at Albany River Rats plus 8 and 10 games respectively in the NHL with the New Jersey Devils.
So anyone want to put their money where their mouth is ?????? Bet is still open...Are you JR? Here's a link for your problem (http://www.ncpgambling.org/).

Barry Tallackson: Soon to be the Eastern Conference version of MArk Bell.

Jared Ramsden 06-06-2006, 01:01 AM Anyone else see Fraser as being the next Colin White???
Brooklyndevil 06-06-2006, 08:57 AM With all these signings it looks like we will go with 3 to 4 rookies in next season lineup.
NJDevs430 06-06-2006, 09:49 AM Bad hair day for Zimmerman. Bad face day too - but I could deal with a few extra zits if I were 19 and playing pro hockey.

Wow... I've heard this kind of talk before. Davis is a God... just ask the family.
As for Fraser, you have a good, solid defenseman who very quietly does a great job. He's a great kid - very bright and hardworking. I'm glad for him, but if the organization would be kind enough to send him back to Kitchener for his OA year, I'd be ever so happy.
Yeah... I know... he's not going to be back.
DTOWNRY 06-06-2006, 11:20 AM Midg14 you're on...
$20 it is.
Rabid Ranger 06-06-2006, 12:27 PM Stepping put of the pissing match for a moment, I really like Patrick Davis as a prospect. I think the trade from Kitchener did wonders for his game and he finished strong with Windsor. If his maturation as a person can continue the Devils have a good one on their hands. Davis is big, is an excellent skater, and has tremendous skill.

Jason MacIsaac 06-06-2006, 04:17 PM Except Bell has a mean streak will fight and has some intensity. I am a huge Tallackson fan also.
Feed Me A Stray Cat 06-06-2006, 04:32 PM Except Bell has a mean streak will fight and has some intensity. I am a huge Tallackson fan also.
I was gonna say. Bell is more physical and does have more of a mean streak, possibly a better shot, too. Tallackson is a better skater and better with the stick.
Anyone else see Fraser as being the next Colin White???
I dunno, Albany had a very limited time with him, but he didn't seem as physical/mean as White in that time. That could/probably will change next year, though. He was more mobile than White, imo. He sorta fits that mold, though.
Belizarius 06-06-2006, 05:36 PM I guess both d-men were good enough at the end of the season with Albany to earn a pro contract now... the deadline for all 3 prospects was june 2007 so it's interesting to see the Devils sign them this soon. :)
Fraser-White could be an interesting comparison. I'll say Zimmerman is a lot like Albelin IMO. :)
DevilFisch 06-06-2006, 05:52 PM Will I get laughed at if I say Pihlman will get more games in NJ next season that Davis?
Seriously, the Devils don't really give out full time roles to prospects unless they feel they're ready. Unless Davis has a very impressive camp, he'll go back to junior or Lowell; not that it's bad thing. Prospect development isn't a race.
Fraser-White could be an interesting comparison. I'll say Zimmerman is a lot like Albelin IMO. :)
Awesome, we got another d-man to represent on the blueline for 20+ years. Albelin can finally retire knowing he's got a successor in the wings. ;)

Yeah, based on the few games I saw I'm not sure I like the White comparison either. I liked Fraser, though, and he should be a good addition to the AHL team for next season.

since you MUST be family or Davis' boyfriend, you might not get this...but Davis isn't that good....yet...

I love Fraser's intangible qualities. Good leadership skills, and potentially a future captain.

He's got all the tools that for sure. He showed that last season. As long as he keeps his head on straight and doesn't have any lapses in consistency, he could be a good one for the Devils down the road.
NJDevs430 06-07-2006, 08:59 AM Will I get laughed at if I say Pihlman will get more games in NJ next season that Davis?
No, but you'll get challenged to a bet by DTOWNRY.

I saw him at a prospects game at South Mountain against some Flyers prospects (this was before the season started IIRC, and he had just gotten the call). He knocked a couple of their guys around pretty good.
Something about those blueliners out of Kitchener...
