Gerber

This is just a random thought I had. Martin Gerber has now won both an Western Conference and an Eastern Conference title. I know there must have been many others to accomplish that feat, but how many have done it within their first 3 seasons? Anyone know?

BTW, who else is cheering for Carolina just because of the Gerber Baby?

I am pretty sure most of us are cheering for Carolina just because we are not cheering for Edmonton. Gerber being part of Carolina's success is just another nice reason to cheer for them.

Way to go Gerber, riding the right benches to postseason glory!!!

I'm totally rooting for Gerber, Cullen, and Oleg. If only there was some way they could win while the rest of the 'Canes lose...

I'd rather see Rod BrindAmour win the cup anyday of the week over Chris Pronger.

I don't know about you, but I don't get any "warm and fuzzy" feelings about Oleg. To me, he was one of the most-disappointing players ever to wear a Ducks' uni. (By that I mean his failure to live up to his enormous potential. He also was a bit of a prima donna.)

If we're cheering for guys simply because they played for the Ducks at one time or another, let's hear it for Mike Commodore who played (ever so briefly) for Ducks as well as most other NHL teams. :)

I know my soft spot for Oleg isn't really defensible, but it still exists.

I will root, then, for Commodore, and even Craig Adams, who came to Ducks camp before reCaning.

I think he got a bit of a bad rap. He just doesn't have the game sense to take full advantage of his talent level, but I thought he put in an honest effort and made some positive contributions.

Cullen, OTOH, always struck me as a guy with talent but who wasn't willing to pay the physical price needed to be more than a minor role player, despite having NHL 2nd line talent.

I'm cheering for Gerber. I actually got a chance to meet him in 2003 and he was probably one of the nicest players I've had the pleasure of talking to. I'm cheering for Carolina for other reasons, but seeing Martin win the Cup would be an added bonus.

I'm rooting for the Canes, but not because of Matt, Oleg or Martin. I hate the Oilers, and my dad was from NC. Also I like the style of play that Carolina plays MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCHHHHHHH HHHH more than the Edmonton Flippers.

That's what I thought about him prior to this year too. But he seems more than willing to rough it up sometimes. Not a lot, but he picks his spots.

Good player, I'm afraid we're going to lose him after this year though.

I want Cullen to put that storm trooper looking helmet back on for the finals. He injured his jaw and in a game against the Lightning had this weird looking mask on over the bottom part of his face and it was HUGE. I'd never seen anything like it and was joking with one of the Cane mods about it.

Did Gerber even play a single playoff game in '03?

He came on in relief in one game.

Is that a Carl Crawford pic in your avatar?...I love that guy...picked up one of his game used jerseys from the team awhile back and love wearing it to the casinos where someone predictably will ask who that is...

Man, am I REALLY bummed that Anaheim lost to Edmonton today. Flew into Raleigh-Durham at about 5:30 EST for work and about the first thing I heard on the radio is how all the ticket agents are pissed because there's no demand for tickets. Could have caught both games 1 and 2 while I'm here

Still might have to go to game 2, but $200 for two teams I don't really care about... we'll see on that one.

Looked like a sellout to me.

Looked like a sellout to me.

I think they meant low demand was keeping the prices down, not that they couldn't sell out the game.

Can't like the 'canes.....saw too much of them playing as lowell lock monsters last year. Staal is talented as hell, but a big baby.
