look at the good side of it, you can rule out toronto and tampa in trying to sign Elias.

There isn't you're right. This salary cap will become a soft cap in a few years because owners are hell bent on spending. The gm needs the contract approved by the owner and in all these cases it has been and they *****ed and costed us a season those ****ing *******s.

Ridiculous. I wouldn't give him more than 3 a year.

the more they spend , the more guys they'll need at 450 k to round out their rosters

the cap still wins in the long run

The owners that want to keep a lid on salaries outnumber those that want to buy a winner.

McCabe's deal is too high and too long but he's important to their team and as the cap goes up I don't think it's a horrible signing.

And according to Sportsnet (http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/article.jsp?content=20060531_134945_4084) he's getting a no-trade clause

Elias and Chara will get Richards type money, from who remains to be seen. That's why I've been saying about us Devil fans being realistic. Even a guy like Arnott might command 5 million or more now. :shakehead

guys..i love him but lets face facts...there is a VERY slim chance that we will sign Elias...He is going to get 7-8 million on the FA market and we are not going to be the ones to pay it...

I believe that to stay within the framework of the cap and attempt to resign our RFA's Patrik is going to have to accept approx 6 -6.5 from the Devils. Another team will most likely offer him 8 million a year and going by past history (Nieds excluded)..we will move on. Let's just hope he rememers what the Devils did for him while he was sick.

I disagree. Like you noted, Lou offered the max to nieds. Elias is just as important to this team as Nieds was. I think LL offers what it takes to keep him.

I think he might take that into consideration. Some of his quotes state that he is very grateful to the organization, and might not necessarily take advantage of his situation b/c of that.

He also said "I want to stay, obviously."

The Leafs will never learn. Another thing they'll never do is win the cup again with boneheaded moves like this.

"Yeah, I could get a forward who scores 100 points a season for 6 million/year or, I could get a defencemen who scores 70 and doesn't know how to play defence. It's a no brainer!"
