Ducksforcup 05-28-2006, 12:44 AM Well, what can I say. This sucks. But, we had a great season guys and this this young team will only get better. I mean, we were the second best team in the west. I LOVE THIS TEAM!!! :innocent: Thank you so much for everything Duckies!!! So, I want to say thank you to the Ducks for playing hard every night and giving us good reason to cheer them on. Thank you to fans like you for bleeding Duck colors all season. You guys kick butt. Again, congratulations Ducks and GL next season!!!
LETS GO DUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :yo: :yo: :yo:
(P.S. Look on the bright side, we get to draft 19th instead of 30th now :) ).
lux_interior 05-28-2006, 12:46 AM Yep. Congrats to the Ducks on a season that exceeded my expectations. I expected them to make the playoffs, but lose in the 1st round. Didn't expect a trip to the WCF.
We have a bright future ahead of us. And picking 19th is better than picking 30th.
ILuvLA 05-28-2006, 12:46 AM The Ducks have nothing to be ashamed of this post season. You gave it a good run and should be proud. Look at the youth in the system. Getzaf, Penner, Perry, et. al.
zaray_656 05-28-2006, 12:51 AM The Ducks played amazingly this season. I give them full credit for a good series. Nothing to be ashamed of Anaheim fans!
Bloggins 05-28-2006, 12:52 AM Anaheim has a great team. You fans should be proud of them and the effort they put in. Good luck next season :)
BraveSirRobin 05-28-2006, 12:55 AM Hopefully we go farther next season. (I'm still upset, so my enthusiasm is a bit forced. Sorry.)
Now we have the draft, our new unis and logo, trade rumors and free agency to look forward to. Quite an eventful offseason.

Yes agreed, plus we have quite an extensive amount of cap space. :)
Hockeyfan02 05-28-2006, 01:01 AM Can't hang my head too low after this one. I never expected the team to get this far and they had a good run. Time to look forward to the offseason and next season when the young kids will only get better. Fellow Duck fans have made this season interesting as well with the avatar shenanigans, good debates over issues like Giguere being traded and Konopka/Pahlsson, and the GDT's. I'm proud of the team and am really excited about the future. Go Ducks! :handclap:
OilerLord 05-28-2006, 01:09 AM The Ducks have a GREAT future.
Thanks for the series, and for being very classy fans! :handclap:
Bobby Ryan Getzlaf 05-28-2006, 01:12 AM We've only just begun. We aren't like other teams that might not have another shot at the cup again, between now and the next 4 or 5 years, this was our worst chance at winning it all. Next year, 6 rookies who played big time roles for us become sophomores, with big time playoff experience under their belts. If the cap goes up $5 million, we could easily have a ton of spending money to add even more valuble players and make an even bigger and better run next season.
It's an amazing feeling to know that your team just went to the conference finals and still have nowhere to go but up.

BTW, you look really weird with that avatar. I was  when I saw it on you.

Well, Edmonton is my second favorite team, so I might as well hope they can win the cup. On top of that, if they win, the only team that could beat us was the cup champions, and, we outplayed them during many times in the series.
Something in me just died.
Jerky Leclerc 05-28-2006, 01:33 AM Congratulations to the Ducks on a wonderful season. Although we fell short of our goal to win the Stanley Cup, nothing but cheers to the boys. Lets get them next year.
Bryanbryoil 05-28-2006, 01:42 AM But your team showed that they have guts, that they have a great young nucleus, and are just a few pieces away from becoming an excellent team. When a team bows out after they leave everything out on the ice you have to give them credit. Your future looks bright, consider yourself blessed to have a solid young core to support for many years to come. My hat is off to your team, treat them like the winners that they are.
shawnmullin 05-28-2006, 01:44 AM I'd like to see some more credit to Bryan Murray for the key young pieces that he collected for this team during his time in Anaheim. Burke made some big moves this year and is clearly a class hockey man. But Murray did a whole lot to help build this team too. Great work by all involved with the Ducks organization, and I look forward to seeing more of you guys next year.
slats432 05-28-2006, 01:50 AM You deserve much congratulations and I expect you guys to be back sooner rather than later.

No one can convince me that the Oilers have more talent than the Ducks, but they find a way to get it done. Obviously Roli was huge in this series and is the reason that the Oilers are where they are right now. Hats off to Kevin Lowe for pressing all of the right buttons at the trading deadline.
I made a comment to an Oilers fan prior to this series starting regarding Pronger and Niedermayer. I'm too lazy to see who it was that I was talking to, but I'll admit that Pronger outplayed Nieds in this series. I wasn't too impressed with Scotty in this series, but I guess there's not too much to complain about regarding him.
Lessy 05-28-2006, 02:00 AM A great playoff run and an even better future ahead for the Ducks
ThisYearsModel 05-28-2006, 02:32 AM Good luck to you Edmontonians. You have tremendous fans. I truly enjoyed talking with the nut jobs that drove 25 hours down here to go to the games. It's fun to talk hockey with them. I hope it is Carolina......that should be a real good series.
McDonald19 05-28-2006, 02:37 AM Well guys the Ducks deserved a better fate than this...some times you lose a series and you think well they were just the better team...this one was a pretty even matchup and the Oilers just did the right things at the right time to win, and early in the series they were really catching the breaks.
I still think the Ducks are the better team 5 on 5 but our powerplay really let us down.
Good luck to the Oilers though, they play a good system and will give Carolina/Buffalo a tough matchup.
sammyp 05-28-2006, 02:38 AM I will be pulling for whichever team comes out of the East, but the Oilers were probably my 2nd favorite to represent the West at the outset of the playoffs. Not that that's any consolation to Oiler fans right now as they're all probably partying.
Heavy Fuel 05-28-2006, 02:39 AM Congrats on the run, Ducks. Your team has a lot of grit, I think they were more mentally tough than the Sharks. They never gave up and they have a lot of great players to build with. I would love Penner & Lupul on my team, and that pair of defense with Neids & Beuchemin looked very good in these playoffs. With Getz & Perry you have a good young line-up. I think the Ducks slapped some sense into the Oilers, and we thank them for that.
See you next year, and if you have to beat Calgary, don't feel too bad about it...
PS, you guys are a classy group of fans, you remind me of Detroit fans, who I hold in very high regard...
grego 05-28-2006, 03:36 AM Anaheim has a great team, and had a great run through the playoffs. I really liked the chances of your team before the playoffs began and felt you had a chance to go quite a ways.
They played a great series and it was much closer then a 5 game series appears.
You have an excellent team and a great base to build off in the future. Plus you do have a very good GM running your team.
I enjoyed watching the Ducks play in this series even if I did cheer for the Oilers.
TheJoeMan 05-28-2006, 03:37 AM It was a great run, I feel we could have done better but at least we gave it our all tonight. It just wasn't enough. I've said many times but the better TEAM wins and Edmonton was hands down the better team. This Oiler squad reminds me so much of our 03 team is frightening. Good luck against the East because they will be tough, either of them. But I gotta say this, if you guys can shut down Scotty and Teemu like you did than you've got a good shot against Carolina or Buffalo.
We are young and poised for more of the same next year. I gotta say one thing though. We've now been to two WCF which is one more than our cross-town rivals. At least we have solidified whose the best team in So Cal right now.
Spankatola Jamnuts 05-28-2006, 04:56 AM Couldn't be more disappointed. We'll never have a better 3rd round opportunity than this one, and we blew it. Too, too cute on the power play.
caliamad 05-28-2006, 05:09 AM Something in me just died.
me too effendi... me too...
coolwasabi 05-28-2006, 05:16 AM Couldn't be more disappointed. We'll never have a better 3rd round opportunity than this one, and we blew it. Too, too cute on the power play.
3rd round opponents will ALWAYS, by default, be a strong team that's won 2 series. I don't think it matters which team it is specifically, so I don't know why you would say something like this...especially considering the past history between the Ducks and Oilers.
Unless you were commenting on the Oilers being flu-ridden; then, I would partially agree...
Spankatola Jamnuts 05-28-2006, 05:29 AM Oh, thank goodness you partially agree. I almost couldn't live with myself if you didn't.
coolwasabi 05-28-2006, 05:55 AM Perhaps I should have just ignored your post altogether then.

You were talking to me... to be fair you did acknowledge that Pronger could outplay Niedermeyer in any given series.
bleuer 05-28-2006, 11:20 AM You were talking to me... to be fair you did acknowledge that Pronger could outplay Niedermeyer in any given series.
LOL :) he said that Pronger outplayed Scotty in this series...
oil slick 05-28-2006, 11:39 AM LOL :) he said that Pronger outplayed Scotty in this series...
sorry - I wasn't clear. Before the series said he said Pronger could outplay Niedermeyer.
Grabner* 05-28-2006, 12:22 PM It was a good run duckers. I'm jealous, wish we had a young good team like yours.
jet228 05-28-2006, 02:21 PM Congratulations to the Ducks! Always liked your team, you guys should be proud of what you accomplished this year, even though it stings right now. You went farther than I think your management even planned for. Burke is a genious (albeit evil :) ) and your team is gonna be a force for years to come.

That would be me. :)
I still have the two neck and neck along with Lidstrom in the top 3. All three are fantastic defenceman and they all play very different styles. Pronger was slightly better than Niedermayer in this series but the difference wasn't what mad the Oilers win this round.
I'm happy with Pronger but I would take Niedermayer on my team any day, he's just a fantastic skater and he's dangerous every time he's on the ice.
Duckstudd269 05-29-2006, 06:01 AM great season for the Ducks, especially when expectations were so low, but man this is a tough nail to swallow.
Ol' Jase 05-29-2006, 01:35 PM You guys have made to 2 out of the last 3 WCF, and I think there is a damn good chance you'll be there next year. Every part of your organization seems to be strong, and with the insane amount of talented youth there, I would be very optomistic for some time to come. :handclap:
Ironhorse 05-29-2006, 02:34 PM to be honest ducks fans i was very worried after game 4. you guys win game five (could easily have happened) and we would have been looking at a monumental collapse. just so you know your team was scary.
Tyrolean 05-29-2006, 02:39 PM Ducks have a good young nucleus, so there's nothing to worry about in the future. Hacing said that, no one knows what the future holds and a team that does well one year may not the next.
Mr Mac 06-02-2006, 12:46 AM Twenty plus teams would like to have had as good a run as you Ducks.
Let's just hope your financial and attendance problems are truly in the past.
Jerky Leclerc 06-02-2006, 02:59 AM In retrospect, what ultimately did the Ducks in is the lack of veterans in the lineup. We have Selanne and Niedermayer but not much in terms of depth like Carolina. I think Burke will have higher expectations for the team and bring in some vets to round out the youth of this team. Reaching the Conference final exceeded everyone's expectation...even Burke IMO.

Im really hoping for Chara and a hard nosed 2nd line winger. Chara and Niedermayer would be the best multidementional tandem in the league...and Chara would bring the toughness needed to make another run and/or replace Salei's. Im worried about losing Rusty though...he is a great locker room guy to have and he is a tough vet that puts the team first. If we lose him there needs to be at least a replacement in the leadership department.
As for forwards, Mike Grier would be a great addition in terms of veteran leadership, even though he obviously is no 2nd winger. He was great in the playoffs for Buffalo and could help lead the kids. The only thing about him obviously is that he doesnt produce points as much as he did earlier in his career and there might be a problem fitting him in the bottom 6. Give me Grier over Moen/Melin/Konopka any day of the week though...
