I was wondering about Kunitz's success this season. Do you think he did well because he was reaping the benefits of being on the first line or is he really this good? Do you think this was a lucky season for Kunitz or will he continue to produce? What kind of production do you expect from him in the future? Thanks for yout thoughts!

i think he is a direct product of being on the 1st line and thats why his numbers were good but hes a very hard worker with good speed and some nice hands and i can see why hes on the #1 line.

He's the only other winger on the team that can keep up with Mac and Teemu. Obviously, playing with those two guys only helped him, but I think he's a pretty good player nevertheless. There's a possibility that he could still be playing with those two next year so you could see a similar points output. He also plays a sound defensive game and always gets back on the backcheck and this lets Mac and Selanne do what they want up front.

realistically he is a borderline 2nd liner.

but he is a good complimentary player for Teemu and Andy Mac because he has the speed to keep up with them, he is willing to play physical, and he covers back on D for his linemates.

He's there because there's not another LW on the team who's not a goon, or bottom six player. (others being Fridge, Moen, and Freisen)

And I've done it again, totally forgot about Penner. No idea why I keep doing that...

Kunitz should be no higher then the 3rd line IMO. I think Penner would be a good fit on the top line, but I don't think Carlyle wants to put that much pressure on him. Bottom line though, Kunitz is a 3rd liner.

Than why was has he been on the first line for the last five months? His 19 goals all lucky right? Kunie has great skill and deserves his spot. It's gonna be funny next year when he pops 25 or 30 goals and people are saying how great he is.

19 goals is good, but he also flubs quite a few chances because he isn't quite creative enough for a true scoring line player. Basically, he's either an "acceptable," third guy on a scoring line, or he'd be an exceptionally skilled 3rd liner. I'd rather build a team based on exceptional guys, rather than generic.

agreed. I'd much rather have Penner on the top line.

To me Kunitz problem is lack of patience with the puck. He often has more time than he realizes, and he will just shoot the puck as soon as he gets it.

It's prolly a confidence thing that he needs to learn to just hang on to the puck a little longer and wait for things to open up.

I think that Kunitz is a very good 3rd-liner who can fill in well on the top two lines. The Ducks were fortunate that he worked out so well and it'd be better if he's not relied on for the same role next year. It should be his only if injuries arise.

agreed. Jeez, we have like 100 guys that can play on our 3rd line.

He's the second coming of Mike Leclerc in terms of being not quite good enough to be a legit scoring line guy but good enough that he can get by in that role.

Kunitz needs to learn how to kill penalties and carve out a niche on the third line, a la Hedstrom.

The Ducks need to find a real first line winger, could be Penner. I love that kid's game and I think Selanne does too.

I really like Kunitz's game... maybe he doesn't have the size/skill needed for their, but he can be a real contributor.

He has speed, he has some skills, he's physical, and he's not afraid to stand in front of the net... he can take a hit and get up and fight back.

I agree with the previous poster, get him on the penalty and kill have him replace Friesen's spot on the checking line next year.

He'd also be an excellent 4th liner.

I think everyone here thinks that he should be on the team, just not the 1st line.
