I was leafing through last week's issue of Sports Illustrated (I've gotten behind in my reading), and found a surprising amount of hockey coverage and also some Devils mentions.
They had a poll of NHL players (346, to be exact), and the question was "Which goalie would you want in the net for game 7 of a playoff series?" Marty was the overwhelming favorite with 60% of the vote. Hasek had the second highest total, with 14%, followed by Luongo with 7% and Kiprusoff with 5%.
They also had a one-page piece on shot-blocking, with mini-interviews with Jay McKee, Brad Stuart, Karlis Skrastins, and Richard Matvichuk. I didn't realize he broke his jaw once while he was playing in Dallas when he blocked a shot from Elias (his quote: "They put in a plate and screws. But it was a successful block.")
In addition, they had a column on playoff beards, and a longer article on now smaller NHLers are making a big impact (it talks about Gionta & Gomez, along with Briere and Samsonov).
I think it was the most hockey coverage I've ever seen in one magazine of Sports Illustrated, and I've been getting it for 4-5 years now.
