A Review of Game 3 By Ducksforcup

With possibly one of the most insane periods of hockey in playoff history with a total of 8 goals scored between the teams, it is hard to swallow that the Ducks let this one go away. True, the team had several lapses that led directly to goals...but they fought back...from a 4-0 deficit no less. That heart is why the Ducks have been so successful and why we love them so much. Look at the Fridge. Fighting the best enforcer in the league two times in one game. And DiPenta kicking Moreau's behind. I realize that we are now down 3-0...but lets look at the positives and believe.

Hey, its cliche, but they need to just look on how to build on the positives of the game. How they were able to force mistakes, win battles, and get the puck behind Roloson. Focus on executing from the beginning of the game, and get that win. After that, head back home for another one in front of the home town fans. Its not likely, but they've proven they have the guts and guile to hang when the going gets tough.

Bottom line is that Edmonton is beatable. Until the third period they'd played mistake-free hockey for two and a two thirds games. If they're going to close it out, make them continue to play mistake-free hockey.

There was a time in that third period where the Oilers were spectators. They were in pretty good position and seemed to give a lot of effort but the Ducks were just better in all areas.

The Ducks ran out of time tonight and I'm sure that it doesn't count for much, but were I a Duck fan I'd be very proud of that effort tonight.

Tonight was 20 players vs. 19 players... Bryzgalov was good in the 2nd but worthless in the 3rd.

Give the boys credit for fighting back. I'm not too happy with losing the game and the series but the boys have played hard all year long. I'm not going to point fingers and criticize the Ducks. They have fullfilled all my expectations and some more. I hope they come out and play a good game 4. Hopefully we can force a game 5.

GO DUCKS!

The first goal was his fault, but he didn't have much of a chance on any of the other ones.

If you want to win a Cup, sometimes your goalie has to make a save or two that he isn't expected to stop, not just the routine ones.

Well after going back and watching the last 10 minutes or so, I've got to give the Ducks some credit. Bryz obviously let the team down today and I expect Giguere to get the start in game four. It's pretty much over, but I hope they can bring it back to Anaheim for at least one more.

BTW, I changed my avatar for some GL, hopefully it fires God up.

good for theducks for not quitting, but keep in mind that the Oilers seriously let up after taking that 4-0 lead which is very understandable, lots of guys battling the flu, it's pretty easy to half *** it thinking you've got the game sewn up.

count me...we finally learned how to score more than 1 goal, we have dominated oilers (again) so why we cant win 4 in row?
and became 3rd team in history to make it?

Tough loss really, Ducks outplayed Oilers once again by a healthy margin but average goaltending vs. good goaltending usually means a loss.

I'm so damn proud of this team though, they went down with a fight! Fedoruk taking on the toughest guy in the league not only once but TWICE is amazing, especially considering he didn't look out of place in either of the fights (both were close draws).

Get the goaltending in game 4 and I wouldn't be surpised this series going further than 5 games.

Bryzgalov indeed played average, but Roloson is no Patrick Roy either. My impression was that the Ducks were beating themselves. They spent too much time thinking that they need a perfect play to beat Roloson. The last 3 games Ducks were basically beating themselves. They made the Oilers defensive job much easier by spending a lot of time setting up and allowing Roloson and Oilers to set up as well. I swear if the next game I see a Duck player skating with the puck in the offensive zone I will scream. Pass or shoot dammit. Thinking should have been done by the time the puck is on your stick.

Plain and simple this is a great team!!!
Who the hell expected this team to be this far. And all the rookies are gaining valuable experience in addition the Ducks are gaining a reputation as a gritty tough team unlike the Eurowussy days. Alot of things to be happy about now and in the future!! :handclap:  :yo: :handclap: :yo:  :handclap:

Until I start shaving and showering and changing socks and changing underwear and sleeping on my left side and turning left (3 rights make a left) and stop eating pepperoni pizza and hotwings and not hanging my pronger jersey overtop of my oiler shirt and only listening to system of a down on gamedays and leaving work early on game days and showing up late on day after game days maybe you guys might have a chance. ;)

Seriously though I think the oil seen in the last 15 minutes of this game what the ducks bring to the table and if they don't come out firing on all cylinders on Thursday this series' momentum could change on a dime cause you guys have one hell of a team. Props to Burke for setting you guys up with the talent (not all him, but a large portion) and the guts to play shift for shift with any team in the league this year and in the future.

This team frustrates the hell out of me. Where was that fire when they were down 1-0 or even 2-0? Sure they were outplaying Edmonton early but they only kicked it up to maximum when the game was nearly out of hand. Where was that intensity all game? They've done this all year, they only respond when they are down. Well they ran out of time...

As a die hard Oilfan, I have to say the Ducks scared the crapper out of all that were watching.

I think the Ducks would have won last night if they had more time. It has been a bit of a boring series really compared to Detroit and San Jose, and I bet it was boring for you guys to watch Colorado stumble over themselves for an entire series.

I will be suprises if Ilya starts tomorrow. I think it's time for Giggy-with-it to play a game and give you guys some good tending this series. Ilya hasnt been bad but he hasnt been good either.

I used to love Selanne as I skilled player but he seems to be a more Claude LeMieux type now. I might be wrong but where did all the grit come from? I loved the days with the Jets when he threw his glove in the air and used his stick to snipe it down.

LOL

either way good effort from the Ducks.

First, thanks for the kudos.

I don't think it was a boring series prior to yesterday's game. Both games in Anaheim were 2-1 until the Oilers scored an empty-netter in the last minute of each game.

I like your observation about Teemu. It's true. He's no longer a "cherry picker". The reason is simple, though: neither Brian Burke nor Randy Carlyle will tolerate that type of player. There's a reason why Sergei Fedorov and Petr Sykora no longer sport Ducks' jerseys. It's not due to a lack of skill.

Call me a homer, but I find the two teams fairly evenly matched. From a Ducks fan's perspective, it's unfortunate that the Ducks weren't able to "solve" Roloson for the first 8 1/2 periods of this series.

I have no idea what the outcome of Thursday's game will be. I think the Ducks will be energized, but if they come out strong and the Oilers are able to "frustrate" them (i.e., hold the Ducks at bay while the Ducks are outshooting and out-chancing the Oil by a wide margin) early on, it probably will be a sweep. If some of that effort results in the Ducks taking the lead for the first time in the series, the Ducks may extend the series for at least one game.

As an Oiler fan,I don't like to see Selanne getting hot...but thats exactly what was allowed to happen in the 3rd period of game 3.
13 has what it takes to hold the Ducks above water and prolong this series...I think he will be way harder to contain than what he was up until the final minutes of last nights game.

You guys would have (may have) won if it weren't for the breakdown after Peca scored to make it 2-0. We've seen this from the Ducks before, namely when Giggy went haywire, so it's a weak point for sure. Maybe it's the youth? I'm not sure, but it's something that you don't see from other teams in the NHL.
