Has he officially retired yet?
AlbelinRobertsson 4-ever 05-22-2006, 07:07 PM Has he officially retired yet? crashlanding 05-22-2006, 07:20 PM No, but the way he was playing, I can't believe I'm typing this, I wouldn't mind bringing him back for a 7th Dman role next year for the league minimum. He was very very solid back there and aside from fatigue (which is why I'm sure he only played every few games, he was better than Klee and Lukowich for the most part) he did all we could have asked of him. Devilsfanatic 05-22-2006, 07:41 PM I've heard that he'd come back if he had a contract, he won't hang around and wait to get one. I would be of the same mindset if i were tommy. Twice I have shown this team loyalty and I should be rewarded. Agreed. Besides, Albelin retiring is just weird. Scott Swedens is FOREVER. Tao Jones 05-22-2006, 08:27 PM Has he officially retired yet? He did pocket the puck from the Game 5 loss to Carolina, but nothing official yet. He's prepared either way, but a contract, as others have already pointed out, will be required before services are tendered. Thanks Tommy A.! Colin Whites Eye 05-23-2006, 12:03 AM hey, if the guy can produce like he did this year, i say offer him another contract. why not? he outplayed klee and lukowich during the playoffs IMO Tbg1515 05-23-2006, 12:05 AM I wouldnt mind tommy A coming back as a 7th dman, & assistant coach....Is there a rule on being an asst. coach and player David Puddy 05-23-2006, 12:11 AM I agree about Tommy Albelin being a candidate for the 7th defenseman spot. He would likley do it for $450,000. So they can play, just not have any sort of captaincy? It is Rule 14 d (http://www.nhl.com/rules/rule14.html). RULE 14 d. No playing Coach or playing Manager or goalkeeper shall be permitted to act as Captain or Alternate Captain. P.S. I was going to find the the rule number, and I came across this for you Devilsfanatic. Click Here (http://www.nhl.com/features/gallery/liljon/page1.html) Is this where you got the picture for your avatar? P.P.S. (and everyone may read this one) They also have a Scott Stevens gallery of 15 pictures, linked here (http://www.nhl.com/features/gallery/stevens/page1.html). passpassscore 05-23-2006, 12:47 AM tommy albelien is immortal. vadvlfan 05-23-2006, 09:49 AM I f the devs have to sign albelin (no disrespect to him) they're in worse shape than I thought. There are many younger, easily as good d-men available. Green might be our 7th defenseman. Time to say thanks, and both parties need to move on. I was watching Slap Shot last night and I'd always wondered why Johnny Upton was wearing the C instead of Reggie Dunlop. I guess the Federal League plays by NHL rules. <(-:** Devilsfanatic 05-23-2006, 10:20 AM It is Rule 14 d (http://www.nhl.com/rules/rule14.html). P.S. NJDevs430 05-23-2006, 03:46 PM "Bleed all over 'em...let 'em know you're there." "Dave's a mess." There are so many lines from that movie that are just hilarious. }:-)> When you watch the movie, in the second or third scene, during the first game against the Presidents; after the face-off, Braden takes the puck on the right wing and wheels to center...and you can see the camera go out of focus for a second or two (I have both the DVD and VHS and it does it on both). I thought they would've digitized that out in the DVD, but I think it's actually kinda neat that they left it in. David Puddy 05-23-2006, 04:13 PM I was watching Slap Shot last night and I'd always wondered why Johnny Upton was wearing the C instead of Reggie Dunlop. I guess the Federal League plays by NHL rules. <(-:{I was going to mention Slap Shot in my original post. The movie was based on the Johnstown Jets of the North American Hockey League/Eastern Hockey League (two forerunners of today's ECHL, which features teh Johnstown Chiefs who play at the same arena as the old Johnstown teams and the same arena used in the movie.) The likely reason for not allowing a player-coach to serve as captain is because the coach could then be on the ice to discuss rulings with the officials. Best line from that movie: "Johnny says you can only drink so much and screw so much."My favorite lines were the speech by GM Joe McGrath (Struther Martin) during the championship game followed by Reggie Dunlop's (Paul Newman) one-line response, "Scouts?" Also, here is an avatar sized picture of the inspiration for Ogie Oglethorpe, Bill "Goldie" Goldthorpe. According to Jeff and Steve Carlson and Dave Hanson, the producers of Slap Shot were affraid to use him because they feared that he would take a cheap shot at Paul Newman. The movie's writerer Nancy Dowd's brother Ned Dowd was used instead. An interesting thing about this photo is that Godlie is in camp with the Minnesota Fighting Saints, the parent club of the Johnstown Jets. You can see that he has the same sweater on with a different logo. He is one scary looking guy though. zarathustra1900 05-23-2006, 06:44 PM "Bleed all over 'em...let 'em know you're there." I can swear, if I remember correctly, that on of the games they are playing they change camera positions from the announcers point of view and the players on the ice are not wearing skates at all! I could swear this was true....and no I wasn't high or anything. But when we were drunk we rewound at least 10 times the slapshot from the Hansons hitting the organ player in the head! LOL Became funnier every time......great drunk movie.... | ||
