Jason Arnott

Yeah, I know that it is the Toronto Sun (http://tsf.waymoresports.thestar.com/thestar/hockey/news.cgi?dailyslate&x_pagespec=20060520) , but:

- Still with the rumor mill, there's speculation that New Jersey GM Lou Lamoriello wants to bring former Devil Jason Arnott back to the swamp. The 6-foot-4 center's coming off a career season and Lamoriello apparently pursued Arnott at the March trade deadline. But first things first. Priority number one is to re-sign potential UFA Patrik Elias and then see how the payroll structure unfolds.

Oh man I'd love it if this happened. Reuniting the 2/3 of the old A-Line that were actually productive would be great. The article is right on in saying that priority number 1 is resigning Elias, and then going after Arnott. I'll keep my fingers crossed on this one...

I think if Elias is gone, we sign Arnott. We won't be having both at the same time.

id definitely like to have arnott back. fills 2 needs at once, since he has size and is a 2nd line center

He sure would fit the bill perfectly. I'm not against bringing him back if the opportunity presents itself.

I would like to have Arnott back but I wonder if there will be enough $$$ to get him back. How much money do people think he will go for?

I'd take Arnott over Langenbrunner if the money is reasonable

If Jaime commands 4 million and Arnott 3, you definitely go for Arnott.

I think if the devils can afford only one good free agent they need to look for a neidermayer replacement; our defense not our offense was the problem this year.

You think Lou could talk both Arnie & Langs coming to back to Jersey, and playing on a line with Capt Patrik........Making a The New A-Line (Elias-Arnott-Langenbrunner)

I would love that line

I could see us with possible lines

Parise-Gomez-Gionta
Elias-Arnott-Langenbrunner
Brylin/Ryznar/Langkow-Madden-Pandolfo
Wiemer-Bergfors-Janssen

Rafalski-Redden/Leopold(expl. at bottom)
Whitey-Martin
Hale-Lukowich/Ridiles (Sorry bout the spelling)

We could sign Redden, or If we arent gonna sign Gomer maybe package him & matvichuck to calgary for Langkow & LEopold)

Hale-Lukowich/Ridiles (Sorry bout the spelling)When has Rafalski ever played left defenseman. In the Devils system, that's a stay-at-home defensman.

Pandolfo is a left wing, and Brylin has played all three forward position.

I call BS on this whole thing.

1. Lou tried to get Arnott at the deadline? What? Arnott was having a career year on one of the top teams in the Western Conference. Who else did we try to get? Alfredsson? Thornton? Crosby? This just makes no sense.

2. The only position we don't need is center. We have Gomez, Brylin, Madden, Parise, Weimer, Zajac, and Vrana. Obviously Zajac and Vrana won't cut it at playoff time, but that's what rentals are for.

3. We will have enough of a problem hanging on to guys like Elias, Gionta, and Gomez. All of whom, honestly, are much better than Arnott.

Suppose.......

Gomez will not take a multi year deal.......If that is the Case he is not getting a raise. He make the same for one more year... case closed 2.2

Suppose Langenbrunner signs elsewhere and Bergfors or Tallackson is given and opportunity to win that Right Wing spot?

And Finally suppose Gionta signs a 2 year 6M contract

Elias - Arnott - Bergfors/Tallackson

Parise - Gomez - Gionta

Pandolfo - Madden - Brylin

Weimer - Rasmussen - Marshall and Janssen

(14 forwards)

Defense

Rafalski - Matvichuk
Martin - White
Lukowich - Hale
Andy Greene
(7 Defensemen)

Brylin $1,520,000.00
Elias $6,000,000.00
Gionta $3,000,000.00
Gomez $2,204,000.00
Madden $3,500,000.00
Marshall $760,000.00
Pandolfo $836,000.00
Parise $703,000.00
Tallackson$510,000.00
Wiemer $950,000.00
Bergfors $510,000.00
Arnott $4,200,000.00
Janssen $450,000.00
Rasmussen$502,000.00
Greene $850,000.00
Hale $602,000.00

Actually it might interest you to know that Dallas was shopping Arnott because he's an upcoming UFA......Jim, I like what you've done there, it makes sense. If the cap goes up again in 2008 then maybe we can accomodate Gomez to a bigger contract as well. In order for the cap to go up, fans need to start showing up........Devils fans Im looking in your direction ;)

Not bad, but what about Mogilny and/or Malakhov? I'm still hopeful we might be able to get Malakhov's salary off the books, but I think we're stuck with Mogilny. Maybe some crazy team will bite on a trade, or maybe we can buy him out, but I'd bet at least part of his salary will be on the books for next year, which could put us pretty darn close to the cap, depending on where it is set at.
