Cropduster 05-15-2006, 09:44 PM This isnt really a debate but a real question as I am American and was wondering who the best Canadian soccer player is. Paul Stalteri plays for Tottenham in the English Primier League which is obviously very competitive. Do you Canadian soccer fans consider him the best for the national team?
Cropduster 05-15-2006, 10:20 PM although Tomasz Radzinski (Fulham) .
Polish, not Canadian, right?
HeHateMeFrisbee 05-15-2006, 10:57 PM I would have said Owen Whoregreaves, but I hate the mofo because he's a stupid *****.
Care to explain why? I assume becuase he plays for England right? Why would anyone want to play for Canada when you have the option of playing for England? Canada will never make it to a major tournament in Hargreaves' lifetime.
PortlandBud 05-15-2006, 11:18 PM de resario anyone?
Avery4Byng 05-15-2006, 11:26 PM When I was younger I was a fan of Domenic Mobilio. I know he is not the best Canadian player, and I dont even know if he is Canadian. I know he played for the Vancouver 86'ers and I always watched them play and he was a good player.
Canada DOES HAVE a soccer squad ???
weaponomega 05-16-2006, 12:45 AM Canada DOES HAVE a soccer squad ???
what is soccer?

Unfortunately, he passed on a couple of years ago.
Right now, has to be de Guzman (until he becomes a Dutch player).
Other guys that will be good include Iain Hume and Jamie Peters. Peters played for our senior side as a 17 year old, and has a bright future ahead of him.
Safir* 05-16-2006, 03:02 AM Kevin McKenna isn't that bad. He had 10 goals this season and helped, his team Energie Cottbus, to return to the 1. Bundesliga. A versitle player, who can play defense and also striker.
SwisshockeyAcademy 05-16-2006, 07:46 AM Jason De Vos when not injured is a very good center back. I really like De Rosario but we just cannot find the right players to play with him. He is very good for the Galaxy. Stalteri is certainly amongst Canada's best. Hume would be a difference maker if he did not let his emotions get the best of him.
Belgian Fan 05-16-2006, 08:00 AM I'd say Radzinsky, he's made a very good career for himself down here in Belgium and now in England.
There's another good one here in Belgium by the way, Michael Klukowski (born in Austria - Double Polish - canadian nationality just like Radzinsky)
Feenom 05-17-2006, 05:32 AM Well, I am a bit biased when I say Stalteri because I have seen him play since he was a 7 year old. I grew up with him and not only is he a great soccer player but a great person.
Every team he was on won. His high school team won OFSAA soccer championships three years in a row, a team which included De Rosario and Jason Bent. No other school came close. When he played for the Malton Bullets they won everything there was to win.
Plain and simple the guy is a competitor and a winner. Did it all in Germany with Bremen and now with the Spurs they should qualify for European club play.
The man is built like a horse, can play any position and never gives up.
My vote is definately for Stalteri, I just wish more people could watch him play.
HajdukSplit 05-17-2006, 03:22 PM what about Jazic? he was decent
SwisshockeyAcademy 05-17-2006, 03:55 PM what about Jazic? he was decent
I like Jazic, he grew up not far from me. He never got much respect from the Canadian National team despite playing at a high level in Europe. It was too bad when they did turn to him he had a bit of a rough ride during the qualifiers. He is not done yet, one more stab at qualifying for the next world cup. Canada is not that far from T&T , in fact I think we have more talent when our best take the pitch. Canada's problem? Getting them to fit into spots and be a team. We rarely, if ever look like a team. Is it the lack of a domestic league? Players having to travel from all over and as a result we have about 50 players in the squad? I am just not sure. I hope the Canadian MLS entry helps us gain a solid core of national teamers and we can add some overseas pieces- then gel.

HajdukSplit 05-17-2006, 08:17 PM Jazic played for Hajduk Split a while back, decent defender who had some offensive attributes (good crossing, speed) but now he is playing somewhere in Russia I believe.
There was another young Canadian who came to Hajduk Split recently, Ryan Thompson from Ontario. He played for Hamilton Thunder, came to Hajduk as a teenager, played a few matches for the first team but mainly in the junior level but now he plays for a German third division club
Also, doesn't the Canadian U17 goalkeeper play in Croatia? Fabian Knezevic?

This is the biggest problem. Together Canada does have a good skillset but they just never play together. Canada rarely ever fields its best players because they just can't afford to bring everyone over from Europe. And when we do have a lot of our good players, there just isn't any chemistry.
I think there are some good strides being made though. Our recent performance at the U20 (I think its U20 but i could be wrong) 3 years ago was evidence of that. But, again, we may see the same problem with the new group coming through. Too many guys overseas.
Steve L* 05-18-2006, 05:57 AM No love for Marc Bircham? :D
HemskyFreak83 05-18-2006, 06:11 AM Canadian Women >> Canadian Men
No love for Marc Bircham? :D
You'll get loads from me and I'm a Chelsea fan :D - Bircham's awesome
Roughneck 05-18-2006, 01:30 PM Iain Hume's a bit good
And the nice thing about him is that he is a product of the Canadian National Team system, the more Canada can devellop its players through the U-20 and what not, the better the chemistry.
And because it was brought up, I might as well give Christine Sinclair props for being the best women's player and for being the best finisher the country has (and that does include the men).
Yes Im Peter Ing 05-21-2006, 05:40 AM I would have said Owen Whoregreaves, but I hate the mofo because he's a stupid *****.
:handclap:
As for the question, I'll say Julian DeGuzman. Stalteri is a terrific player, but as a defensive horse he doesn't bring the national side anything it doesn't have now or hasn't had in the past, he only brings it at a higher quality. Julian on the other hand possesses talent going forward that hasn't been seen in a Canadian player in a while. It's that kind of talent that will be required if Canadia is going to qualify for South Africa. His brother is even more impressive, but unfortunately it looks like he's choose to suit up for Holland rather than Canada. Whatever. It sucks, but I have more sympathy for his choice than I do for the *****.

Yeah, nice blast from the past.
