After great performance in U-18, attention has been moved to him. In latvian media there was an article where some NHL scouts predicted him 2nd round pick (appearantly sleeper pick) as i couldnt find his name ISS Final Rankings. Anyway, kid is skilled, the fact he got through NT training camp shows he has talent. We might see him playing today, it will be easy to notice him as hes wearing full helmet (hes 17 at the moment) and wearing white skates.

Reminds me of the old days at the Forum - Almost makes me misty eyed. The noise got over 103 decibels according to a meter they showed - incredible. I got a kick out of the "no refs" sign.

Disappointing seeing so many penalties, but aside from that last interference call off the faceoff they're deserved. Sticks between the Canadian players legs, skates out tripping them, slashing, you have to call those. If Latvia wants to play some 5 on 5 than they need to come out in this 2nd period and play with some discipline.

From where the ref was standing I could see how it looked like an intentional pick play. It was a pick play, but seeing the replay I don't think it was intentional. If it was intentional, that is definitely a penalty.

The no ref sign made my day and the shoe was just funny. I am a Canadian fan and there has been too many penalties, some of them have been marginal at best. With that said Canada has dealt with this many times the Latvians just have to suck it up and cheer their team on.

I know it sounds ridiculous but even in our "New NHL", the refs will make up borderline calls. It has happened forever. For example last night when Laraque got 5 mins for boarding, it was debateable whether or not he deserved 5 minutes. The refs evened it up for a portion of the PP negating the entire 5 minutes of PP time.

If you want to see an example of passion directed in the right direction, watch the Italian and Swiss fans at the Olys. The Italians were vocal in the opening game of the Olys against Canada, even when their team was down late in the game. The visual of the giant Swiss flag at the end of their upset against Canada is one of the most enduring from the Olys.

Yeah, the horns are annoying, but it happens in European hockey. It's too bad that there are some fans in Latvia who insist on disgracing themselves, their team, their ice hockey federation and their country. I can't remember more disgraceful conduct by fans during a hockey game.

This should have been a crowning moment in the history of their hockey development: playing Canada at the worlds on home ice, in front of a full house. Instead, it's set their program back an indefinite period of time. It'll be a long time before Latvia gets another major tournament.

He's been playing the top two lines for some reason. With the slashing going on you gotta roll the 3rd and 4trh lines.

I'm at work so I don't have TSN. What's going on, was there a stoppage of play.The IIHF site has the score 8-0 at 45 mins. When did they stop playing the Crosby line?

It's 12-0 now, Canada has 10 PP goals. Latvia is brain dead, taking deserved and stupid penalties.

Canada's top two lines have been spelling the 3rd and 4th lines for a few really short shifts since about midway through the second period. The Crosby and Shanahan lines have had two or three shifts combined this period - and even those lasted maybe 30 seconds.

The big delay came when Latvian fans littered the ice for the second time and the teams got sent to the locker room. The zamboni had to come clean the ice it was so bad, mostly coins but the occasional horn and shoe.

Sure it's a slash, but those slashes haven't been called in previous games in this tournament. And that's been my point all along.

If people are wondering why Crosby only had like 2 points, he barely got any ice time in the second and third periods, I counted 2 shifts in the 3rd, barely remember him in the second, no point in getting him hurt possibly.

Wasn't trying to be smart at all. If they start playing a song in a foreign language at an arena I went to I'd have no idea what the words meant. Although I'm sure most Latvians know a lot more English than I know Latvian.

Im sad about 11-0 loss, sure, but im more sad how IIHF made hockey unwatchable. Im not saying he biased Canadians, i dont care. I was hoping for good hockey, like last year 6-4, what a game. Today first time in my life when watching hockey i said to myself that id rather be a basketball or even a football fan. Disgrace to reffing, completely ruined hockey. If it was in the NHL people would do the same, especially if they're not used to the new rule enforcement, I think its nice to see people passionate about the game. Hell, they were still doing the Latvia chant with like 3 minutes to go and they were losing by 11 goals, thats love for the game and your team.

This game was like a war against the U.S. And even then - we could only fight them by blowing horns at 107 decibels
