You have a scouting report on him? bottleCAPS 05-11-2006, 10:35 AM Ill say 5-3 CAN with Crosby and Pettinger both having good games. Sakaarnis 05-11-2006, 10:45 AM You have a scouting report on him? No for some reason he wasnt in the centre of scouts earlier in the season. He was mentioned in pre-season scout lists, but up untill U-18 WHC scouts were silent. After great performance in U-18, attention has been moved to him. In latvian media there was an article where some NHL scouts predicted him 2nd round pick (appearantly sleeper pick) as i couldnt find his name ISS Final Rankings. Anyway, kid is skilled, the fact he got through NT training camp shows he has talent. We might see him playing today, it will be easy to notice him as hes wearing full helmet (hes 17 at the moment) and wearing white skates. You could take a slap shot at him and as long as it was along the ice and in his wheelhouse, he'd be able one time it with accuracy. The Latvians are really struggling to play with Canada. Taking so many penalties trying to keep up. Le Golie 05-11-2006, 01:44 PM The energy in the building is amazing. The Latvian fans are great fans indeed. Nihilism 05-11-2006, 01:45 PM The energy in the building is amazing. The Latvian fans are great fans indeed. It was funny to hear them go dead silent when Boyes scored. GuloGulo 05-11-2006, 01:47 PM zero tolerance reffing isn't really helping the lesser nations out it isn't. Panopticon 05-11-2006, 01:47 PM Ref ruining another game. This is the worst one so far. At least the other ones were pretty fair, but this one is totally Canada biased. The Latvians are taking a ridiculous amount of penalties, but it is because they are committing fouls, not because the ref is terrible. The Canadians are used to this zero tolerance officiating and Latvia is not. Hensta 05-11-2006, 01:54 PM o ou! crowd goes mad! Extra stuff, a lot of extra stuff on ice! :( svea 05-11-2006, 01:54 PM There's total mayhem. People are throwing junk onto the ice. Le Golie 05-11-2006, 01:56 PM Who throws a shoe? Honestly. I feel bad for the Latvia, they just want their hockey team to do something. Dogbert 05-11-2006, 02:00 PM Er... what's happened? What caused the fans to throw junk on the ice? Eight Canadian powerplays in the first period, or something like that. turnbuckle* 05-11-2006, 02:00 PM Reminds me of the old days at the Forum - Almost makes me misty eyed. The noise got over 103 decibels according to a meter they showed - incredible. I got a kick out of the "no refs" sign. uzziman 05-11-2006, 02:00 PM This is just difficult to watch, with those annoying horns going non-stop and now the littering the ice with debris because Latvia got a penalty. I can understand being passionate about hockey, but there is no need for this :shakehead Timmer44 05-11-2006, 02:01 PM Who throws a shoe? Honestly. Random Task? Panopticon 05-11-2006, 02:01 PM I agree. The Latvians are taking a ridiculous amount of penalties, but it is because they are committing fouls, not because the ref is terrible. The Canadians are used to this zero tolerance officiating and Latvia is not. Come on. The latest penalty for example. Pettinger tried to skate through a Latvian player and the Latvian player didn't have time to move out of the way and gets a penalty. I'm not Latvian. I'm not a Latvia fan. I don't even want them to win. I just feel great pain in my head trying to watch this game. Trying to enjoy a simple match of hockey while drinking a few beers before going to sleep and preparing for another day at work. 1. Fair or not. There's too many penalties. 2. It's not fair. It's biased. I don't feel like watching this anymore. I'm going to enjoy some internet porn instead. brendadervin 05-11-2006, 02:01 PM Doubt they will get another tournament any time soon. Last night it was the ice and tonight the fans. HalifaxHit 05-11-2006, 02:01 PM There going to the dressing rooms and they are going to play a 22 min second period. Vikke 05-11-2006, 02:01 PM The last call was a joke. They collided after a face-off. I can understand Latvia's fans frustration, but don't throw **** on the ice. Please. svea 05-11-2006, 02:03 PM Latvia got many penalties, but the stuff started flying after a VERY cheap one. Siberian 05-11-2006, 02:03 PM Live updates and play by play here http://www.eurosport.com/icehockey/world-championships/2006/live.shtml mikkoz 05-11-2006, 02:04 PM The Canadians are used to this zero tolerance officiating and Latvia is not.But reffing has been totally different from olympics - where they used zerotolerance also. Kodachrome 05-11-2006, 02:05 PM Well, I'd say I was disappointed or some junk, but watching the fans rain shoes down upon the refs was more fun than anything that could happen in a Canada vs. Latvia game. Nihilism 05-11-2006, 02:05 PM Wow, imagine if the Canadians got 8 penalties. It would be because they're a bunch of bullies and hooligans. Latvia get 8 penalties, it's the ref he's out to get them. Desi 05-11-2006, 02:05 PM That no-referee sign was great. :biglaugh: And the shoe-thrower :biglaugh: Vikke 05-11-2006, 02:07 PM That no-referee sign was great. :biglaugh: And the shoe-thrower :biglaugh: Yeah, that sign was great indeed :D From Eurosport "Live comments 20' The referee has no other ooption but to send both teams back to the changing rooms. End of the 1st period. 18' Angry Latvian fans are displeased with some of the referee's calls and are throwing plastic bottles and other objects onto the ice. What a shame for ice hockey..." Fabs 05-11-2006, 02:08 PM Disappointing seeing so many penalties, but aside from that last interference call off the faceoff they're deserved. Sticks between the Canadian players legs, skates out tripping them, slashing, you have to call those. If Latvia wants to play some 5 on 5 than they need to come out in this 2nd period and play with some discipline. Panopticon 05-11-2006, 02:08 PM Wow, imagine if the Canadians got 8 penalties. It would be because they're a bunch of bullies and hooligans. Latvia get 8 penalties, it's the ref he's out to get them. Riiight... Vikke 05-11-2006, 02:09 PM The Latvian captain should've talked to the crowd via the PA system to calm them down. I've seen that during soccer games when it was close to get out of hand and it has worked. At least it's worth a try. Le Golie 05-11-2006, 02:10 PM Come on. It's biased. I don't feel like watching this anymore. I'm going to enjoy some internet porn instead. From where the ref was standing I could see how it looked like an intentional pick play. It was a pick play, but seeing the replay I don't think it was intentional. If it was intentional, that is definitely a penalty. Matti_A 05-11-2006, 02:11 PM Just when I thought the officiating couldn't possibly get any worse along comes Mr. Looker. Jesus effin Christ :madfire: I can't believe what i'm seeing. We are wittnessing the death of international hockey. **** the zero-tolerance, this is insane :shakehead Had I been at the Game I would have torn my chair off it's moorings and thrown it at the ref. I applaude the latvian fans, you have every right to complain. Panopticon 05-11-2006, 02:11 PM slashing That call was a joke. There's worse slashing happening in my pants at the moment. And more importantly, slashing like that hasn't been called even in this tournament before. Timmer44 05-11-2006, 02:12 PM It's so one sided though it's not even funny. If he had called just one even up call this wouldn't have happened Fabs 05-11-2006, 02:15 PM That call was a joke. There's worse slashing happening in my pants at the moment. And more importantly, slashing like that hasn't been called even in this tournament before. Because they're using the NHL's zero tolerance system now. A slash is a slash no matter how hard you swing your stick. Hopefully the Latvian's pick up on that in these next 2 periods. Frogurt 05-11-2006, 02:15 PM It's so one sided though it's not even funny. If he had called just one even up call this wouldn't have happened Why make up calls to appease fans? Le Golie 05-11-2006, 02:15 PM OK, enough crying. Game on. Yeah, throwing debris on the ice is wonderful. Camshaft77 05-11-2006, 02:20 PM The no ref sign made my day and the shoe was just funny. I am a Canadian fan and there has been too many penalties, some of them have been marginal at best. With that said Canada has dealt with this many times the Latvians just have to suck it up and cheer their team on. Fabs 05-11-2006, 02:25 PM By THIS TOURNAMENT I mean THIS TOURNAMENT. They didn't switch to the zero tolertance system in the middle of THIS TOURNAMENT, did they? I thought they were using it already. I'm well aware of what you meant. I don't watch games other than the Canada ones so I don't know or care how they're being called, but if its a slash you call it whether its a weak slash or a 2 hander. turnbuckle* 05-11-2006, 02:26 PM  Panopticon 05-11-2006, 02:27 PM Another ridiculous slashing penalty. Nor any game in this tournament before this one... turnbuckle* 05-11-2006, 02:27 PM You're not a kid? I kinda feel sorry for you then. I don't suppose you're overly bright. I know it sounds ridiculous but even in our "New NHL", the refs will make up borderline calls. It has happened forever. For example last night when Laraque got 5 mins for boarding, it was debateable whether or not he deserved 5 minutes. The refs evened it up for a portion of the PP negating the entire 5 minutes of PP time. The visual of the giant Swiss flag at the end of their upset against Canada is one of the most enduring from the Olys. Yeah, the horns are annoying, but it happens in European hockey. It's too bad that there are some fans in Latvia who insist on disgracing themselves, their team, their ice hockey federation and their country. I can't remember more disgraceful conduct by fans during a hockey game. This should have been a crowning moment in the history of their hockey development: playing Canada at the worlds on home ice, in front of a full house.
