I don't know why there was no such a topic, so I created it.
Bubba64 05-11-2006, 08:23 AM Who will get the start ??? FOMICHEV Alexander or ZVYAGIN Sergei :sarcasm:
TORRUS 05-11-2006, 08:36 AM 9-1 RUS
This game will be like a practice. Ukraine won't be very disciplined and we'll see Russian talent at it's best. Russian PP units will have alot of work and it will be very productive. Zvyagin won't face more than 15 shots while Simchuk will see around 45.
Alessandro Seren Rosso 05-11-2006, 08:42 AM i concur ivan ;) :yo:
TORRUS 05-11-2006, 08:45 AM How is it in Italy? Can you see the game? Or only in internet?
Muscle Bob 05-11-2006, 09:57 AM Karpenko looks nice :)
TORRUS 05-11-2006, 09:58 AM End of the 1st.
1-0 for Russia by Sushinsky on a 5 min PP after some fool did a knee on knee on Kharitonov. He also got a match penalty. The injury looks very bad and Kharitonov couldn't stand on his feet. :shakehead
Anyway, Russia is definitely not playing it's best hockey. The pucks are running away from them, the passes are inaccurate, they cannot control the play very good. Malkin was great, could have scored 2 goals but missed. Zvyagin had few great saves! Ukraine is playing quite good.
bottleCAPS 05-11-2006, 10:05 AM lets go ukraine. the motherland is strong!
It won't be a blow-out, as it stands now it's pretty close..
Go Ukraine!
Mikhnov vs. Mikhnov is also taking place,
bottleCAPS 05-11-2006, 10:30 AM looks like RUS is on a 5-3 PP
Slitty 05-11-2006, 10:37 AM I understand Misharin taking Koltsov's spot since he is suspended, but why Mozyakin instead of Zaripov... Zaripov looked very good, better than Grigorenko for sure. Can Koltsov and Zaripov play again - the roster is at 24 players.
Panopticon 05-11-2006, 10:38 AM Ovechkin would have three more points in this tournament if Sushinsky could finish his chances...
I'm suprised we've been able to kill all of these penalties we're taking,
bottleCAPS 05-11-2006, 11:03 AM 3rd period is ready to go!
Panopticon 05-11-2006, 11:03 AM Yeah, Malkin and Ovechkin with assists, I hope...
bottleCAPS 05-11-2006, 11:05 AM ahh 2-0 RUS now.. looks like UKR is in trouble now.
Couldn't kill all of them :(
Panopticon 05-11-2006, 11:08 AM I'm starting to have a bad man-crush on Mikhnov... why hasn't this guy been hyped more?
He's only 20th on the Oilers prospects list...
This guy handles the stick better with one hand than most players do with two.
Panopticon 05-11-2006, 11:12 AM Ovyy!
Nothing you can do against Ovechkin,
bottleCAPS 05-11-2006, 11:13 AM wow, AO is having a wikid game... which comes as a condolance to Ukraine being down 3-0 now.
bottleCAPS 05-11-2006, 11:15 AM another RUS PP.. here's to hoping this one doesn't get ugly on the scoreboard.
Panopticon 05-11-2006, 11:16 AM Ahh, ****, Ovechkin should've finished that...
EDIT: Well, Kulyash makes up for it...
bottleCAPS 05-11-2006, 11:17 AM geez, 5-3 again.. can't take this many penalties boys!
4-0 RUS :shakehead
Icekube 05-11-2006, 11:17 AM Kulyash with a BOMB. 4-0
2 man PP for Russia and they capitalize, 4-0
I'm starting to have a bad man-crush on Mikhnov... why hasn't this guy been hyped more?
He's only 20th on the Oilers prospects list...

Mikhnov is very impressive, one of the best for Russia in this tournament. Btw few minutes ago Andrei Mikhnov stoped the older brother while Alexei was driving to the net.
Ovechkin scored and now Malkin who is the best player of the game in my opinion needs to score too.
bottleCAPS 05-11-2006, 11:26 AM any reason for the goalie change?
Icekube 05-11-2006, 11:27 AM Ukranian goalie gets no help, he is not that bad really.
bottleCAPS 05-11-2006, 11:28 AM 5-0 Rus
Like Wall 05-11-2006, 11:29 AM Damn, the Russians in this tournament are unstoppable. If only Russian Super League would pay salaries regulary, then every player on you NT would be as motivated as Ovechkin.
s7ark 05-11-2006, 11:29 AM I'm starting to have a bad man-crush on Mikhnov... why hasn't this guy been hyped more?
He's only 20th on the Oilers prospects list...

He's 20th because after his horrible season last year he really fell in the rankings. He had been written off as never coming to NA. He has sure stepped it up of late that's for sure!
I sure hope Lowe brings him over next season. He could be a real player!
bottleCAPS 05-11-2006, 11:31 AM quick question, UKR is done if they lose right?
quick question, UKR is done if they lose right?
Well, if they win the other two, and the Swiss and the Swedes loose all three, then they go throu... So, yes, they are done :)
Grigs!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Too bad for the Ukrainians that we couldn't hold onto a respectable result,
bottleCAPS 05-11-2006, 11:37 AM Too bad for the Ukrainians that we couldn't hold onto a respectable result,
agreed, that 3rd period was the death of them
Like Wall 05-11-2006, 11:37 AM 6:0 :( Pretty bad for UKR. I wish they could score at least once
Great game by Russia :handclap:
Ovechkin with hes best game, what a player ! Who said he has no playmaking abilitty :biglaugh: ???
That team looks good :teach:
Siberian 05-11-2006, 11:48 AM Kharitonov received an injury, is in a hospital now, suspect it is ACL tear
jekoh 05-11-2006, 11:58 AM Well, if they win the other two, and the Swiss and the Swedes loose all three, then they go throu... So, yes, they are done :)They're not out at all. Belarus has 2 points, Slovakia has 0, so if Ukraine beats Belarus and draws against Slovakia they overtake them both, as long as these two teams don't score more than one point in their remaining two games agains SWE and SUI.

Right, I forgot. But realistically, it will most likely be Swe-Rus-Swiss-Bel in this order...
cassius 05-11-2006, 12:07 PM Great game by Russia :handclap:
Ovechkin with hes best game, what a player ! Who said he has no playmaking abilitty :biglaugh: ???
Take it easy man. Its Ukraine!
Kulyash with a BOMB. 4-0
That would be his second BOMB this tournament, had one against Slovakia too. That one was the hardest shot I've seen all year, not saying that its a exact science to judge a shot by watching it on TV he seems to shoot like a horse kicks...
He is drafted by Nashville right? If thats the case they will have a scary blue line on the PP. Zids, Timmonen and the bomber Kulyash.
TORRUS 05-11-2006, 12:09 PM Malkin and Ovechkin are great players! like somebody already said, Malkin is the best puck stealer in the world; The puck is never safe when he is around. I'm very sorry he didn't score. Could have easily had 4 point game. I will join the Mikhnov badwagon! The guy has some mad skills to go with his huge stature. Strong like a bull. Kulemin and Semin had some flashes of brilliance! Incredible puck control! If Russia started playing earlier and if Sushinsky and Malkin scored on their chances could have easily been 10 goals of difference.
Take it easy man. Its Ukraine!
Bah to bad we dont get a chance to play against Norwegen or Denmark :dunce:
Lupul* 05-11-2006, 12:12 PM Did Koltsov play (Kirill I mean) :dunno:
TORRUS 05-11-2006, 12:13 PM Did Koltsov play (Kirill I mean) :dunno:
No, he served his penalty
Did Koltsov play (Kirill I mean) :dunno:
nope suspended
SmokeyClause 05-11-2006, 12:30 PM How has Kulyash looked?
Muscle Bob 05-11-2006, 01:07 PM Yeah, Malkin was great today...Too bad that he didn't score..
Bank Shot 05-11-2006, 04:01 PM So if Mihknov is on the third I guess that means he doesn't get any powerplay time? Does he penalty kill?
turnbuckle* 05-11-2006, 04:06 PM I'm starting to have a bad man-crush on Mikhnov... why hasn't this guy been hyped more?
I kinda figured you were the type.
66-29-33 05-11-2006, 04:54 PM How many points for Ovechkin and Malkin today?
ShadowFax 05-11-2006, 05:00 PM How many points for Ovechkin and Malkin today?
3 and 1
66-29-33 05-11-2006, 05:01 PM Thanks.
Slitty 05-11-2006, 09:59 PM So if Mihknov is on the third I guess that means he doesn't get any powerplay time? Does he penalty kill?
Yes he plays on the powerplay, in fact, he scored his game winning goal against Slovakia on the powerplay. He doesn't kill penalties, its Malkin's job. :D He is on the 3rd line in a Russian sense... which has little to do with what NHL fans associate with a 3rd line.
Nemchinov13 05-12-2006, 12:28 AM What's with the Mikhnov brothers? Why are they playing for two different national teams? It's a classic brother-on-brother confrontation. Which Mikhnov is better? Which Mikhnov is playing for Russia? Are they drafted by NHL? In any case, both of them are friggin huge. One is 6'6, another is 6'7. And both are forwards? Do they have any skill?
I'm asking too many questions, but that's because WC is not televised in the US
In basketball there are Khryapa brothers. One plays for Ukraine, other one for Russia.
TORRUS 05-12-2006, 12:52 PM Not long ago two Reichel brothers played against each other; Martin Reichel for Germany and Robert Reichel for the Czech Republic.
jekoh 05-12-2006, 01:21 PM Not long ago two Reichel brothers played against each other; Martin Reichel for Germany and Robert Reichel for the Czech Republic. And both were actually team captains :handclap:

They were both born in Kiev, Ukraine.
Alexei Mikhnov was drafted by the Oilers in the first round, and Andrei Mikhnov was drafted in the second round by St.Louis. I'm not sure if they were drafted in the same year, however I do know that Alexei is one year older..
They are both forwards, and for both it has taken time for them to develop into serious hockey players. Alexei is looking good for Russia, and will most likely be heading to the NHL with the Oilers. Andrei however recently cracked the Ukrainian roster and is playing well and will continue playing hockey in Russia..

Wow, so many Ukrainian deserters - Zhitnik, Zherdev, one of the Mikhnovs, Vishnevski... anyone else?

Tverdovsky, Babchuk..
Peter Bondra was born in Ukraine, but that's a different situation..

Being born in Ukraine deosn't automatically make you Ukranian...

Same can be said for any country. Russia simply is a better source for hockey, if you're a player in eastern europe, Russia is where you need to go first before you make the next step..

If you're born in Kazahstan and play hockey, you are most likely ethnically Russian. I am fairly sure that some of Zhitnik, Vishnevski, Zherdev, Mikhnov, Tverdovsky, and Babchuk are ethnically Russian. However, whether one is Russian or Ukranian ethnically is a moot point in my opinion since its basically the same thing.

It's a moot point because these are national teams, not "ethnic teams".

That's true, we can start pointing out Ukrainians born in Russia.. but that's just a waste of time since they are entitled to play for the country that they were born in.

Exactly, I mean...For me there's no difference really...I still consider them as the same country, same people, etc.

That makes no sense, what's the difference between Canadians and Americans? They both speak the same primary language and believe in the same religions. But yet 'somehow' they are divided.
We're all truly a bit like to our neighbours, if we weren't then we'd all be in trouble..

Dude, Kiev was the 1st Russian capital...Ukraine come from the russian words "on the border" (something like that) Ukraine was never actually a country before 91...
I was born in Kiev, but I'm russian, but I still consider that Ukraine and Russia are both my home country...I don't know if you understand what I'm trying to say, but that's how it is. ;)

Actually, Kiev doesn't have that distinction: it's the 3-d Russian capital after Staraya Ladoga and Novgorod.

Well pardon some people who considered themeselves Russian for centuries, but were placed in a seperate country by political events and told they were "Ukranian" for having a lack of nationalism for a country they were part of for only a little more than a decade.
Kievian Rus' is the orignial Russia I believe, its a "Russian" city no matter how you spin it. In terms of Russians and Ukrainians being totally different as the newfound orange-shirted Western Ukranian nationalists like to believe.... well they have been one and the same for centuries. The mere conept of being different somehow, and even then not that different existed for a mere decade. Ukranian and Russian are pretty much dialects... people from Texas and New England speek a little differently: they are still both American.

You make my point : how people consider themselves is more important than their ethnicity. Kasparaitis for instance doesn't seem to have a lack of nationalism for a country he was part of for less than a decade.
I could care less whether Zherdev or Tverdovski are ethnic Ukrainians or ethnic Russians, the bottom line is both played in Russia, have got Russian citizenship and want to play for that country.
Kievian Rus' is the orignial Russia I believe,It's no more the original Russia than the original Ukraine.

People from Buffalo and Hamilton speak exactly the same I'm sure and they're still from different nations.
It's no use in arguing about the border of the two nations, people have been taught different knowledge about the relationship between Ukraine and Russia.
We all think that our way is the rightful explanation, no matter what there are always going to be true western Ukrainian patriots, or conservative Ukrainian soviets..
