Tourny Scoring Leader

Right now Bergeron and Crosby are tied with 6 points in 2 games. After Malkin and Ovechkin play their second game they should be up there as well. Who do you think will lead the Tourny in Scoring?

I'm hoping that it will be Ovechkin (or Semin), but I also put some money on Crosby and Malkin, so I definitely wouldn't mind one of them winning either. For this poll I'll say Malkin, just so the Crosby camp can't accuse me of homerism :sarcasm:

I don't really care about stat padding against Norway or Kazahkstan though. I'll be more interested in seeing how these guys do against top level competition later on in the tournament.

Sid
AO
Malkin
Bergeron
Semin
in that order!

Would it be a major surprise if Sid lead in points and AO in goals?

Seems to be Sid leading AO by about 2 to 1. They each have 3 points per game. I wonder if the polling would be different if AO had played 2 games to Sid's 1, with AO leading 6 points to 3?

Well i meant scoring leader as in points leader. Ovechkin will probably have the most goals in the tourny judging by game one and who he has setting him up.

Ovechkin, because Russia seems more apt to run up scores in these tournaments. Canada seems to pull up after they get a big lead like they did yesterday. So, i think it will be AO, but Malkin,Crosby and Bergeron could all have a shot at it.

I wouldn't count AO out just yet either. Their playing a team today where they can run up the score and there are lots of games left in the tourney.I expect at least a 4 point game for AO today. This is the kind of game he excels at.

Dunno...Canada's playing Latvia, probably can expect Crosby to get a few points out of that. He's been quite effective that way the last few months. Also, apparently, some of team Russia caught the flu, which is why they were kind of ineffective the previous two games.

Crosby has already won it. Only one who can steal it from him now is Bergeron and that's very unlikely.

What a joke. Ovechkin got all his points against the worst two teams in the entire tournament, yet you try to make it sound like that's all Crosby is capable of. Do you have any other fabricated and pre-packaged excuses you want to share with us? It seems like you've been dreaming them up for some time now.

I suggest you go back to the WHC when Ovechkin was 18 years old, and make up excuses why he only had 1G and 1A in 7 games... Crosby's hitting double digits half way through the tournament at age 18 - but I'm sure you have some well planned excuses for that too!

Sid picks up two in the first against Latvia, one goal and one assist, but sits most of the rest of the game along with Bergeron who picked up a single point in spite of a 11-0 win. They may have done a little better in a more competitive game where they played the whole game. I guess there are plenty of those games to come. They are now one-two in scoring with 9 and 8 points.

Didn't see the Russian game but it looks like AO did well in the early going also (when the score was reasonably close) picking up two assists then later a goal. Malkin picked up an assist. They are tied for third with 6 points each along with Jason Williams who picked up a goal and 3 assists against Latvia, all 4 points coming early in the game, though I'm not sure if he was "benched" along with Sid and Patrice.

So they are your 5 top in the hunt for the WC "Art Ross".

Sid and AO are top one and two, with 5 and 4 goals respectively in the hunt for the WC "Rocket Richard" followed closely by eight others with 3 goals each.

I think you have to go deeper. To the times when the Red Machine dominated these type of tourneys and ran up scores on pretty much everyone. I'd go with the KLM boys, Sergei Makarov specifically. And I bet that Vyacheslav Fetisov is the all-time defensmen scorer in WCs. If only I could get stats now...

Vladimir Petrov had 18-16-34 in 1973. Boris Mikhailov had 16-13-29 and Valery Kharlamov had 9-14-23 that year. Shockingly enough, the 86 points they had as a line is also a record. I believe their line still has the second best total as well with 56 points in 1977.
