Think they'll all represent Canada at the WHC's?
Phaneuf, Regher, Iginla, LangkowDevilsfanatic 05-04-2006, 03:44 PM Think they'll all represent Canada at the WHC's? misfit 05-04-2006, 03:49 PM I doubt any of them will. Devilsfanatic 05-04-2006, 03:50 PM I'll bet on Phaneuf. Hell Phaneuf, Richards, Carter, Bergeron, Crosby we'd have the core of the 2005 World Junior Champions on the team. the-rasta-masta 05-05-2006, 04:47 PM Word is that Phaneuf has been playing with a broken foot and a knee injury....I doubt he will go if this is true. Kung Pow 05-05-2006, 04:54 PM Just heard on the FAN 960 in calgary that Phaneuf declined becuse he has a broken foot - played with it the entire Ducks series - and the rest of them (Regher, Iginla, Langkow) all flat out declined. Way to represent. Typical Flamers Realm 05-05-2006, 04:58 PM I dont blame Iggy or Regehr, they have already played in the olympics....Langkow is a different story. MrMastodonFarm* 05-05-2006, 05:04 PM ILangkow is a different story. Traitor! Roughneck 05-05-2006, 05:14 PM Iginla, Regehr, Phaneuf and Ference were given invites and all of them declined. Iginla and Regehr for the sheer length of their season, Phaneuf reportedly has a broken bone in his foot and a nagging knee injury and I guess Ference has a bunch of knocks as well. I'm actually very suprised Ference got an invite at all, and even more suprised that he'd decline it, its not like this will be a yearly thing for him (whether the Flames are in the playoffs or not). illogic 05-05-2006, 05:15 PM I dont blame Iggy or Regehr, they have already played in the olympics....Langkow is a different story. Langkow's a commie. copperandblue 05-05-2006, 05:16 PM Sorry, but Regehr and Iginla have played 90-95 games this year......I completely empathize with them. So what? Given the chance they would have been happy to play another 21. Iginla, for all of his good qualities, has always come accross as a chump when it comes to the spring tournament. Sure he will jump at the chance to play in the high profile tournaments and say all the right things about representing your country and all that but then when he has the chance to do the same thing but at a lower profile....nadda. MrMastodonFarm* 05-05-2006, 05:28 PM Sure he will jump at the chance to play in the high profile tournaments and say all the right things about representing your country and all that but then when he has the chance to do the same thing but at a lower profile....nadda. It's a 3rd rate tournament, who cares. Or maybe it's the fact he has already won a World Championship. KrisKing* 05-05-2006, 06:26 PM Is it just me or is it mostly just oilers fans that have a problem with iginla not going to the WC's? And I doubt Langkow was even invited to go. Devilsfanatic 05-05-2006, 07:04 PM Smyth would have gone. ah123 05-05-2006, 07:06 PM Regehr, Phaneuf and Iginla declined due to injury. Don't know if Langkow was invited... Even if it was in North America you'd see far more Canadian and American upper-level players participating. Family time has usually been the biggest thing, and Hockey Canada has been pretty keen on bringing over wives and children for players who participate, but the World Championships just don't have that big of a pull, it may be dissapointing, but I definitely understand it. Typical Flamers http://www2.sportsnet.ca/blogs/hockey_hearsay/2006/05/05/phaneuf_played_injured/ Also declining Team Canada invitations due to injury are defenceman Robyn Regehr and Flames captain Jarome Iginla Nice jumping to conclusions there, amigo. I'd rather they rested up after a grueling season than play in a second rate tournament anyway. | ||
