Tricolore#20 04-27-2006, 03:50 PM Anyone pick up the video game yet? I believe it came out on Tuesday, and I was thinking about getting it tomorrow.
Some of the features of the game look pretty cool, and as always the visuals for the EA game are impressive. I'm interested to see if the gameplay has improved, and emulates much of what Winning Eleven possesses. I've played FIFA 06, and while it was still very good, it didn't compare to the gameplay of WE.
Also, if you have tried it, does Canada have real players on their roster? What about the other national teams that haven't qualified? I would love to have an authentic Canadian squad, and try to get them into the Final.
go kim johnsson 514 04-27-2006, 03:54 PM Is that game only national teams?
Tricolore#20 04-27-2006, 03:55 PM Is that game only national teams?
Yeah, this game only has national teams.
Usually, I would say that this is yet again another way for EA to make money (release the same game, but change up the teams that are included). However, the World Cup is such a powerful brand that it warrants its own game, IMO. I want to have the real stadias, real shirts, realistic rosters, etc... I also have heard from others that this game is much better than FIFA06, so I'm interested to hear from those who have actually played it.
Scoogs 04-27-2006, 04:46 PM I'm very tempted to get it for the 360...
But I'll wait until October for FIFA07... Maybe then I can finally start a new franchise with AC.
Does it have a road to the world cup mode where you qualify and stuff, or is it just the tournament(which I believe the '02 version was)?
Midnight Meat Train 04-27-2006, 06:55 PM there was a fifa 06 world cup for the 360 that came out in november also that apparently didnt have every single national team on it, I have that one and I enjoy it quite a bit, you start out by having to qualify back in 2004

That was simply FIFA 06 I believe, which was released on the XBOX360 when that console came out. This new one only has national teams in it, and has the exclusive license to the World Cup.
In reponse to acr's question, yes, you can take any of the national teams in the game through the qualification process. That's part of the appeal for me. Canada hasn't been in a soccer game since FIFA02 I believe, and even back then, they didn't have all the players' names or uniforms or anything that made them official. I'm hoping this new game has at least the real players, so that I won't have to edit them myself.

I wonder how updated the rosters are and if you can bring in players and customize the national teams ie) boot a guy like Ronaldo out of the team and replace him with another striker like Porto's Adriano, hypothetic example of course

I saw some of the screenshots, and it seems like all the national teams in the World Cup have their new jerseys. The majority of those were released what, like a month to two months ago? If that's the case, I think the rosters would be relatively up to date.
As for being able to customize the teams, I hope that's also in the game. It was in the Euro 2004, and salvaged what was otherwise a terrible game. I would think they would keep it in this game, since the official rosters haven't been set yet, and also because it is a cool feature.
I just picked up the game today for the PS2.
It's a great game, comparable to my other favourite soccer game which was FIFA 05. But they finally have the Ukrainian roster right. The depth on the rosters is incredible, you have like 50 guys to choose from for your final roster. Another cool feature is at the end when they play your anthem while they show highlights from your victory, which I think is the whole reason the World Cup is so great.
I would recommend this game to any fan of the beautiful game,
Adoooo 04-29-2006, 05:28 AM did they get licensing rights for Team Holland?
Yes, they're licensed
TH3 RIDDL3R 05-01-2006, 09:07 PM I had Fifa 2006. Then I lost it. I believe someone stole it. sucks for me.
Subway Schenn 05-02-2006, 01:05 AM I'm getting it this week for the PS2 hopefully.
Subway Schenn 05-02-2006, 12:49 PM Holy **** .. I can't believe this ****
I went to five EBgames locations and all of them were soldout.
I was looking forward to ripping it up with Rooney and the boys tonight.
Bah.

no I have the regular Fifa 06 for regular xbox, there were two Fifa 06 Road to the world cups made for the 360
Jussi 05-02-2006, 06:15 PM For regular Xbox you're better of with PES 5/WE9. Just download Watson's V2 Option File from PESInsight, it's suppose to have all the correct World Cup teams and kits.
Greek_physique 05-02-2006, 06:48 PM Winning Eleven soccer is the best soccer game out there period!
polako 05-02-2006, 06:52 PM i picked it up yesterday. if you liked fifa 06, then you'll like this as well...gameplay is really similar. all the national teams (and I mean ALL) national teams are in the game. Case in point: I roughed up Vanuatu 10-1. The game can takes you from WC Qualifying groups all the way through to the finals. There's also a bunch of different scenarios.
One problem I have: No Giorgios Samaras for Greece??? W T F? Its okay though, my created Samaras came out to an 87 rating....lol

No doubt!!! :yo:
Subway Schenn 05-03-2006, 10:16 AM Picked it up today .. Is it $25 everywhere or only at Walmart?
This game has steal potential.
Devilsfanatic 05-03-2006, 10:25 AM I like hearing that the game starts from a world view travels through the city and to the stadium (don't know if that's 360 exclusive) but it sounds SO cool.

Yes, this is given on all systems. Wait 'till you get to the World Cup final, jus sit back and watch..

Fernandes and Moutinho were in the game which was a pleasant surprise (they aren't in winning eleven)
My impressions of this game...I love it. My brother in law and I play Winning Eleven pretty regularly and I came to the realisation after playing the FIFA World Cup that it was much smoother than WE. The players movement imo are much more realistic. I sort of feel that in winning eleven you can only move Straight or Diagonaly and you can't really circle around anyone. It always got on my nerves. There are a few little things I'd like better, for instance I don't like the camera angles so much. I also think the AI could be better, I'd also like if some players like Adriano could actually kick it from outside the box with better pace to the ball (although I do feel kicks are better than on WE).

Play Winning Eleven. You'll never care about FIFA ever again.
Shabutie 05-09-2006, 06:16 PM Play Winning Eleven. You'll never care about FIFA ever again.Disagree completely. I hate how you don't have complete control over player movement in WE. As I said, it seems as though you can't circle around you can only move a certain way. I feel like FIFA is less restrictive on the movement. Either way I think the soccer games are so much worse than the hockey games, in the smoothness factor. It frustrates me at times.
rented it for a week. couldnt keep playing cause it was a FIFA game. there are certain ways to score that you find out after a couple games and after that the fun factor just crashes down. everything besides the gameplay was aweosme though. every country, player, kit.
imagine winning 11 gameplay + FIFA everything else (menus, licenses, music)
Tricolore#20 05-10-2006, 01:03 AM I love the Global Challenges aspect. They give you a "classic scenario" (although many of them are from qualifiers for this World Cup) in which you have to accomplish certain goals. It becomes extremely fun when you have to find a goal in the closing minutes, or hold a lead or something. I also like it because it gives you a chance to use teams that you normally wouldn't use (eg: Tahiti, Congo, Soloman Islands, etc...).
Evilo 05-10-2006, 01:16 AM imagine winning 11 gameplay + FIFA everything else (menus, licenses, music)
That's called a patched WE/PES.
Myself, I bought PES, copied it on my Xbox HD and since then, I patch it with plenty of kits, licenses, menus, music, sounds (the crowd actually screams when you score), etc...
It's pretty much the perfect game.
Evilo 05-10-2006, 01:17 AM Either way I think the soccer games are so much worse than the hockey games, in the smoothness factor. It frustrates me at times.
There has never been a realistic hockey game yet. The 2K series is probably the closest, but it has ways to go before it reaches the realism of the PES series.

What is this winning eleven? what's different about it
Evilo 05-10-2006, 03:45 AM Well, Fifa has nice graphics, all the players, all the kits.
PES/Winning Eleven (same series, different name) has an incredibly realistic gameplay, as well as above average graphics, and a fantastic feel for the game. The drawback is that it doesn't have all the names and kits (though most of them), and that FIFA is better looking.
Same old EA stuff : better looking than any other game, but not realistic.
Shabutie 05-10-2006, 07:57 AM There has never been a realistic hockey game yet. The 2K series is probably the closest, but it has ways to go before it reaches the realism of the PES series. But imo it's more realistic than Winning Eleven is for soccer ("smoothness-wize"). I seriously feel as though when you play you don't have full control of your movement in WE, and I felt as though it was different on FIFA probably cuz the gameplay is faster. I didn't see a big improvement from WE 8 to WE 9, which was bull. Why pay 70$ to get the new one if they haven't updated anything? The graphics were the same, same teams (actually I believe their were less cuz I couldn't find Porto or Sporting), gameplay was the same. I wish Companies would stop being douches and do like 2K does (sell each game 25$). I mean after all...it's only an update of last year.
Jussi 05-10-2006, 10:55 AM About the restrictive controls of WE/PES, that's because it only uses 8-way control instead of full analogic. Maybe PES on Xbox 360 (announced ath M$'s press conference yesterday) later this year will change that?
Like I said earlier, if you have WE/PES for either PS2, Xbox or PC, you can get patches and edited Option Files from e.g. PESInsight.com. All you need on consoles is an Action Replay/Max Drive voi'la: Up-to-date transfers, kits and teams.
BigTimer 05-11-2006, 09:00 AM What is this winning eleven? what's different about it
It doesn't have all the licenses, rosters, and official glitz that Fifa has (although that stuff can be found on the net) but the gameplay is head and shoulders above any sports game made the past couple of years (NCAA Football 2006 gives it a run for its money, but WE/PES still comes out on top). Incredibly realistic. Some of the goals I've scored made my jaw drop from sheer entertainment. The graphics are pretty nice too.
As for the complaint a few posts above about the restrictive movements... well apart from the 8-way controls, momentum plays a factor and it's been put in some EA games before (Madden, notably) and it only happens when you're using boost. If you're on a normal run, you can stop and turn on a dime. If you're on a boost run, you'll have more trouble unless your playing with Ronaldinho and Henry. The whole game is just a wholoe lot more realistic than Fifa and aims to be a simulation rather than an arcade game. Fifa hasn't been playable since 2001 or 2002.
Porn* 05-13-2006, 07:04 AM is it on pc too?
Brodie562 05-19-2006, 01:04 AM try using "super cancel" that will help you get control of your player. the games controls are so deep its not even funny. best sports game ive ever played.
Johannes Climacus 05-19-2006, 01:15 AM Winning Eleven kicks my ***. I just bought my first game in the series (9) last week and I cannot beat the computer in the league mode. I assumed you would get all of the normal players, but you have to work your way up. Some games I can hold the computer to 0 goals, but I almost never score. I think I've scored 4 goals so far in league mode.
My friend just beat the hell out of me 4 times with Chelsea vs Arsenal (me), in exhibition, so I had all of the good players and have no excuses. I think I suck, but the game is so addicting and &*(^()*&^()*^ing frustrating too. :madfire:
I can't stop playing it but I get dominated every game pretty much. When I do string together some nice plays, I can't finish unless I get lucky.
Midnight Meat Train 05-19-2006, 08:31 AM ok an update on the first Fifa: Road to the World Cup game that came out for the 360 in november, I played through the qualifying and got to the end and after my last group qualifier it came up and said: "Congrats, you have qualified for the 2006 World CUp in Germany" and then that was it, you could qualify but you could not play the world cup
so if you are going to get a fifa game for the 360 make sure its the new one and not the first one
GorgeousFrankenstein 05-19-2006, 08:36 AM I haven't played Winning Eleven only the Fifa games and I enjoy those quite a bit. I really don't care much for realism, if I wanted that I'd just go play for real with my buddies. I like the arcade style of EA games.

You have to play it as if it was real life. Don't hang on to the ball too long with 1 guy, do alot of through balls, and crosses from outside the box.

Yeah, I know this, but I still suck. My reaction time is pretty bad and I screw up all the time when something finally goes right. Plus, it doesn't hurt that if I finally get a good chance for a shot on goal, I pike it or do something even more horrible.
Thanks for the link Jussi. I'll check that out.
Caner Soze 05-20-2006, 12:45 AM I think I rented Fifa 06 after not having really played a Fifa game for years.. (I used to be really into soccer, but lost interest for awhile, but that's a different story.) The controls weren't anything like they were back when I played on the original playstation platform.. and it didn't have any option to custom configure your controllers (which I do for hockey and soccer games, because the default controls seem awkward for me) so I got pissed and didn't bother trying to play much. I want to rent this game, but I don't want the same thing to happen again..

My brother in law and I have been playing FIFA World Cup alot recently (just bought the game) and I honestly have to say that I much prefer the smoothness of FIFA. People may say that Winning Eleven is more realistic, but to me the difference isn't big enough to make up for the crappy movement the players have on WE (imo).

IMO it takes a while to get the hang of the of the controls in WE/PES. Once you get the hang of them, you'll realize how great the game is and how crap all other sports games are compared to it.

xander 05-21-2006, 04:03 PM I will echo the sentiments of others above me and say that there is no game like winning 11. It's not only the best soccer game out there, it's the best sports game I've ever played.
Johannes Climacus 05-21-2006, 11:18 PM I still suck, but I cannot stop playing this game. I've stopped getting so upset to the point of violence, so I guess that's improvement (plus, if I keep my emotions under control it's better for my team because I can sometimes play decently).
I lost during the season mode, probably because I won no games. I didn't meet the points to break even. Didn't help that I made some transfers near the beginning of the preseason. Oh well, I'll be starting a new season a little later on tonight, and making a transfer as soon as I can get one done. Cesc Fabregas was the best player on my team after I transfered to get him.
I was almost going to win a game and the team scored in the 85th minute. Then I only lost to 1 by Chelsea.
I would say that this is the most fun sports game I've ever played. All the hockey games I play make it too easy to improve your teams through trading (unless that has changed in the last few years), plus it's easy to score anyways. I wish there was a hockey game like this.
I was talking to a friend who said they thought WE8 was the best, so I might pick that up soon.

That first Ronaldo vid is pretty cool. I think the game is cool, but I prefer FIFA World Cup (but other than that WE > all). I play to have fun first, and with the World Cup setup I have more fun than with Club seasons setup. That's the number 1 reason I prefer the World Cup game.
Jussi 05-23-2006, 06:09 AM That first Ronaldo vid is pretty cool.
Yeah but just like the similar Rooney video, it's somewhat staged. The guy (probably) maxed out the dribbling, speed, and technique attributes and then used the Play Again feature in Training mode.
