Notes: Elias' first goal was his 500th career point . . . Devils C Sergei Brylin played in his 600th game . . . The Flyers scratched C Peter Forsberg for the fifth time in the last six games. He returned Saturday in the Flyers' 4-1 win over the New York Rangers after missing four games with a groin injury . . . Gionta's scoring streak is one shy of the club record set by Elias in 1999-2000 . . . The Devils took the season series from the Flyers 5-3 . . . Lukowich had three assists . . . Devils defenceman Colin White injured his groin and did not return for the third period.

The dreaded groin injury, that's not good.

Or the dreaded playoff injury deception.

Groin injury = not good. I was much happier when they originally said it was an ankle injury...:(

Wasn't it a groin injury he had earlier in the year?

 Wasn't it a groin injury he had earlier in the year?

Yup, I remember that he particularly frustrated because he had never had a groin injury before. He was out for two weeks. If he doesn't play Tuesday he'll have almost a week off, hopefully that will be enough.

I hope that is a minor injury and not a major one. I want the Devils to field the best team possible against Montreal, but I think White may be better sitting out. I wonder if Matvichuk would also sit out if White was out.

This is from today's Bergen Record:

Defenseman Richard Matvichuk took part in the full practice Saturday and skated hard afterward, but will be held out for the third consecutive game because of a groin strain.

I'm sorry guys I hate to be a disbeliever but I doubt either of these is a groin injury. Lou is notorious (at least among myself) for releasing bad info on injuries near playoff time. I wouldn't be surprised if that attempted hit by Matvichuk during the NYR game reinjured his back or possibly his knee and the White injury is actually his ankle.

If either of them come back I'm sure Lou doesn't want guys gunning for a back/knee or an ankle. Seems kinda hard to target a groin strain on a hit and with the number of groin injuries around the league sounds like the perfect injury to tell the media.

From Monday's New York Post...

Colin White sat out the third period with groin injury, but said he could have played if game was on the line

The Devils were 19 points behind the Flyers, 56-37, on Jan. 2, and today stand tied with them at 99, one point behind the Rangers. It has been a ride that, if completed, won't be forgotten, even if no one knew they were on it at the time.

From the Loss of Pat Burns, Scott Stevens, Scott Niedermayer, Patrick Elias' Hep A, Salary Caps issues, the scary Brodeur knee injury, the resignation of Larry Robinson, the debacle of Malakhov/Mogilny/McGillis ....To being 1 game away from a Division tittle?

To say this season was tumultuous would be more than understatement.

I am amazed and astonished.

Next time anybody is wanting to write of the Devils, Fan or Foe, let's remember 2005-06 season

Well there certainly were many highs and lows this year.

Reading today's Star Ledger, Colin White sat out the third with a slight groin strain. (I'm reading the paper right in front of me, so no link.)

Slight is good, it implies a minor injury, right? Right?

Well he did say if the game was on the line he could have played, so I don't think it's as bad as we might have feared.

<(-:**

Defenseman Colin White suffered a groin strain in the second period and did not play at all in the third. Devils GM/coach Lou Lamoriello called it a "slight strain."

That's good enough for me, but I wouldn't be surprised if he sits out against Montreal. If Matvichuk's ready, maybe he goes back in for that game....

sounds minor if he says he could of played if the game was ont he line.

I think we should sit White and Matvichuk for the season finale, regardless of how they're feeling. As nice as the division title would be, having them healthy for the playoffs is the most important thing, and there's no reason to rush them back.

Exactly!!! I figured Lou would have kept Matvichuk out until the playoffs even if he was healthy enough to come back. In the game against the Rangers he played great and I think that was his first game back from the previous injury so might as well save him for the run for the cup.

MikeMatvichuk got injured on the play on which the Rangers scored their first goal. Matvichuk went for the check on Betts in the Rangers zone and fell down. Colin White was all alone in the Devils zone because Martin couldn't come get on the ice.

At any rate, Matvichuk hit Betts with his right leg, which spread Matvichuk's legs apart. Matvichuk tumbled to the ice.
