Of course we play the best team in the East tonight and Philly plays the worst. :madfire:
Brooklyndevil 04-11-2006, 08:55 AM It will be a tough game tonight going up against the Canes who have a great group of forwards and are excellent on home ice. Playing in Caroline has also been a house of horrors for the Devils. However, when you have Commodore and Tverdovsky as two of your top defensemen, there's always a chance for a an upset in my opinion.
Colin Whites Eye 04-11-2006, 10:08 AM getting at least a point tonight will officially clinch our spot in the playoffs...lets get it done boys!
devsfan8 04-11-2006, 10:24 AM This would be a great win and continue our hot streak. Devils step up for games like this but Carolina has a loud crowd, excellent on home ice and the best record in the East. I was iffy on the game against the Habs and I thought that Philly would beat Toronto. Instead we beat Montreal and the Leafs beat the Flyers.
Even an OT loss and we make the playoffs. Losing the game is not disasterous and Philly can win tonight and we still could get 5th. We would be 4 behind with 2 against Philly and in Montreal.
Just play smart and as a team. If the Devils take a lead I want them to sit on it tonight. Trap them all night. Maybe Gomez and Gionta can get to 80 points tonight.
caniacgirl12 04-11-2006, 11:08 AM While making the Canes GDT, I realized you guys are on a 7 game winning streak...and trying to clinch your playoff spot against us tonight. Yikes.
thefiestygoat 04-11-2006, 11:09 AM I am pumped for this game. This should be a great match up with quality hockey as the product. Lets Go Devils!
Easton 04-11-2006, 11:09 AM getting at least a point tonight will officially clinch our spot in the playoffs...lets get it done boys!
Or if Atlanta gains no more than a point in their game--right?
Of course we play the best team in the East tonight and Philly plays the worst. :madfire:
They'll be with out Forsberg, who probably won't be playing this Thursday when we face them.
This could be a possible playoff matchup so let's take it as if it is.
DevilFisch 04-11-2006, 11:14 AM That's right Easton, if Atlanta doesn't get a win against Tampa Bay, NJ clinches a spot if I read the Star Ledger properly this morning.
Let's play Carolina like it was Stevens night, a total owning of the Canes would hit the spot right about now.
OK, it probably won't happen, but I'd like to see NJ win all the same. I'll predict a 3-1 NJ win. Gionta gets #45.
Jiri Bicek 04-11-2006, 11:22 AM Don't forget the bump of the lucky "Here comes New Jersey" thread
sveiglar 04-11-2006, 11:50 AM LET'S GO DE-VUHLS! *clap, clap, clap-clap-clap*
kingmoore 04-11-2006, 11:55 AM See you guys at the RBC.
NJDevs430 04-11-2006, 12:04 PM Don't know if this has been posted, but Matvichuk is a no-go (http://www.nj.com/devils/ledger/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/1144730420214140.xml&coll=1) tonight.
Notes: Richard Matvichuk suffered a slight groin pull against the Rangers and did not make the trip to Raleigh

NJDevils18 04-11-2006, 01:19 PM Matvichuk is a no-go tonight.
Oh no we're finished :shakehead ..time to bust out Hale or Klee..hopefully not the latter
Brooklyndevil 04-11-2006, 01:55 PM Oh no we're finished :shakehead ..time to bust out Hale or Klee..hopefully not the latter
Hey! ;) Even Tommy A., would be fine. I been noticing when he's out there he very calm and controlled.
devsfan8 04-11-2006, 02:50 PM Marty going for WIN #40 tonight.
TaiMaiShu 04-11-2006, 02:50 PM lets go Devils need to clinch
tangible_faith 04-11-2006, 03:23 PM Going to the Leaf game tonight so I will miss this. Will probably watch the out of town scores at the ACC though.
TaiMaiShu 04-11-2006, 03:38 PM Marty going for WIN #40 tonight.
hmm.. the duo of stevens and niedermayer prevails again this year and it shows with another 40 win season for brodeur. ;)
devsfan8 04-11-2006, 04:06 PM hmm.. the duo of stevens and niedermayer prevails again this year and it shows with another 40 win season for brodeur. ;)
Yeah, Marty is so overrated with that great duo in fron of him!! :)
Feed Me A Stray Cat 04-11-2006, 05:49 PM Cans win 5-2.
Tao Jones 04-11-2006, 07:04 PM Hale in for Matvichuk
Kozlov in, Janssen out.
David Puddy 04-11-2006, 07:10 PM Wow! That was great. Grant Marshall! Madden has found his offensive touch late in the season!
M-B-30 04-11-2006, 07:12 PM fsn south announcers blow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
David Puddy 04-11-2006, 07:13 PM Klee is also playing tonight. He is in for Albelin.
David Puddy 04-11-2006, 07:21 PM 1-1. The Devils have been sloppy at clearing the puck.
Classic Devil 04-11-2006, 07:22 PM Tied up in what sounds like a scramble. Brodeur is sharp though.
TaiMaiShu 04-11-2006, 07:24 PM damn rafalski gave the puck right to whoever scored... i have no clue what the announcers were talking about.
David Puddy 04-11-2006, 07:27 PM It was Adams for Carolina. I watched the replay, and Rafalski did get some decent velocity on his clearing attempt.
David Puddy 04-11-2006, 07:29 PM The power play looks strong so far. They creating scoring chances. So close for Gionta.
TaiMaiShu 04-11-2006, 07:30 PM wow brind'amour reminded me of stevens with those blocks
Classic Devil 04-11-2006, 07:31 PM wow brand'amour reminded me of stevens with those blocks
I've wanted Brind'Amour on the Devils for as long as I can remember.

Wow thats pretty crazy, I didn't realize we were doing that well as of late.
Brooklyndevil 04-11-2006, 07:53 PM Not a bad road period for the Devils. But I'll say this about Carolina, they are real quick on the forecheck and dangerous.
Captain Lou 04-11-2006, 07:54 PM I like our chances as this game progresses. We easily could have had 2 or 3 more goals that period. Let's keep the pressure on!
David Puddy 04-11-2006, 07:57 PM Gionta looks really hungry tonight. And the Madden line has had some great chances since scoring early.
TaiMaiShu 04-11-2006, 08:01 PM gomez is shooting at will
TaiMaiShu 04-11-2006, 08:03 PM how good would doug weight look with us?
David Puddy 04-11-2006, 08:10 PM how good would doug weight look with us?Yeah. I just think he may have cost more than Lou wanted to pay. I would have liked to have gotten Nieuwendyk back. He scored his 23rd for Florida tonight. I saw him play the Islanders, and he moved really nicely.
Let's go power play!
NJDevils#4 04-11-2006, 08:14 PM :dunno: Elias, Gomez and Gionta are literally our only offense. Theyre so good and everyone else is just so bad...
David Puddy 04-11-2006, 08:17 PM :dunno: Elias, Gomez and Gionta are literally our only offense. Theyre so good and everyone else is just so bad...No. The Madden line has put a lot of preassure on since scoring the only Devils goal.
David Puddy 04-11-2006, 08:23 PM John Madden!!!!!
borrachon 04-11-2006, 08:24 PM No. The Madden line has put a lot of preassure on since scoring the only Devils goal.

Tao Jones 04-11-2006, 08:26 PM Put a shadow on #11! :D
NJDevils#4 04-11-2006, 08:27 PM No. The Madden line has put a lot of preassure on since scoring the only Devils goal.
Yea they have had a good night tonight thus far I must admit.
David Puddy 04-11-2006, 08:30 PM Put a shadow on #11! :DThe only guy good enough to stop him tonight is his linemate, Jay Pandolfo.
Brooklyndevil 04-11-2006, 08:32 PM Great to see maddog finishing again. They'll need scoring from him to do some damage in playoffs. As for that last penalty, no complaining, but calls like that will ruin hockey. Guys have to be able to take the body.
NaChOs 04-11-2006, 08:32 PM yay 2-1 devils 2nd intermission :)
GO DEVILS!
sveiglar 04-11-2006, 08:38 PM 20 more minutes to go!
LET'S GO DE-VUHLS! *clap, clap, clap-clap-clap*
sveiglar 04-11-2006, 08:41 PM Also Atlanta just took a 4-1 lead on Tampa. More good news!
David Puddy 04-11-2006, 08:41 PM yay 2-1 devils 2nd intermission :)
GO DEVILS!The Devils have to kill off 27 more seconds of penalty time at the start of the third.
I think the Lukowich call is decent. He was heading towards the boards with "Rosie" Larose (I know you like to be called that, eh.) He just gave him a bumb as the puck went down the boards.
Verbeek12 04-11-2006, 08:42 PM Nice job through 2 periods. They have really taken it to the Canes. Now lets finish it off. great to see others getting into the act besides Elias,Gio and the Missile!
blueliner 04-11-2006, 08:46 PM Also Atlanta just took a 4-1 lead on Tampa. More good news!
and of lesser but no less satisfying importance, the Isles have a 3-0 lead over the Rangers after 2 period...if that continues and we hang on tonight we'll be within 5 of the Blueshirts...what odds of tucking another Atlantic title under our arm en-route to the real stuff !

Didn't notice that. Philly is up on Pit; it could throw a proper monkey wrench into the seedings if the Flyers ended up winning the division.
blueliner 04-11-2006, 08:56 PM boooooooo
2-2 thanks to a Weight/Recchi effort.
DevilFisch 04-11-2006, 08:56 PM Arrrrgh, Recchi scores to tie it up on a wild sequence of events.
It's time for #45...
Jiri Bicek 04-11-2006, 08:58 PM Aiiiiiii..... Not good..C'mon Pando, strong PK....
Scratch that, off setting minors..
TaiMaiShu 04-11-2006, 08:59 PM another bad turnover by the D
David Puddy 04-11-2006, 09:08 PM Let's see if the power play, which has looked really good tonight, can look great by scoring. Gionta has been close several times tonight.
TaiMaiShu 04-11-2006, 09:10 PM :handclap: Beautifully Perfected! 3-2 Elias has eyes on the back of his head
David Puddy 04-11-2006, 09:10 PM Yes! That's what I mean about great! They were really good and finished!!!

NJDevils#4 04-11-2006, 09:20 PM Well i guess i dont care that much that carolina gets 1 more point...as long as we still get the W in OT or SO.
DevilFisch 04-11-2006, 09:20 PM That was just bizarre.
OK, let's get the win!
Colin Whites Eye 04-11-2006, 09:20 PM ugh damnit
on a more positive note, with this point, we officially clinch a playoff berth
David Puddy 04-11-2006, 09:21 PM That sucked! But the Devils will have a 4-on-3 for 35 seconds.
The Devils have clinched a playoff birth with this regulation tie.
DevilsFan38 04-11-2006, 09:21 PM Well i guess i dont care that much that carolina gets 1 more point...as long as we still get the W in OT or SO.
Agreed. Still, that's frustrating.

lucscaps 04-11-2006, 09:22 PM   playoff bound,

That's right! RE-COG-NIZE!!!!
Devils win! DEVILS WIN!
DEVILS ARE GOING TO PLAYOFFS! 40 wins for Brodeur, 5th season of 40+ wins for Marty.
David Puddy 04-11-2006, 09:23 PM All's well that ends well.
It doesn't matter to have given Carolina the point!!!!
Brodeur wins his 40th game of the year. Closer he moves to being the best ever.
lucscaps 04-11-2006, 09:23 PM that's more like it
Colin Whites Eye 04-11-2006, 09:23 PM guess who gets the goal?!

NJDevils#4 04-11-2006, 09:23 PM Did Gionta deflect that???
borrachon 04-11-2006, 09:23 PM WOOOOOOOO!

Ronnie Bass 04-11-2006, 09:24 PM Did Gionta reflect that???
That's what I think. Sweet.
lucscaps 04-11-2006, 09:24 PM are they giving it to gio?
NJDevils#4 04-11-2006, 09:24 PM Crap they're reviewing it...
DevilFisch 04-11-2006, 09:24 PM Why are the refs on the phone?

David Puddy 04-11-2006, 09:24 PM Hold the phone. I will cry.
blueliner 04-11-2006, 09:25 PM what the hell are they reviewing?
tremendous, authoritative win...no panicking...gritty, resolute, confident...this squad is priming itself at the right time of year...just fantastic.
so, everyone to reconvene in the "Here comes New Jersey" thread in 5 minutes from now? :)
David Puddy 04-11-2006, 09:25 PM The Devils win.
Langenbrunner: "It's not like Gio is tall enough to get a high-stick on that"
TaiMaiShu 04-11-2006, 09:25 PM another top shelf rocket! :handclap: congrats on win 40.
NJDevils#4 04-11-2006, 09:26 PM They're giving it to Gionta...he's now 2 away I believe from the record.
lucscaps 04-11-2006, 09:27 PM I asked for the goal, hoping for the empty netter, but I'll take this way, it's better
DevilFisch 04-11-2006, 09:28 PM They're giving it to Gionta...he's now 2 away I believe from the record.
1 goal away from tying Verbeek, 2 from passing him.
It's possible, it's really possible this year.
LONG LIVE THE NEW NHL!!!
Brooklyndevil 04-11-2006, 09:29 PM Congratulations to Marty for his 40th win and another impressive team win. Not sure if Gio or the Missile got the goal, but what a shot by Gomer again.
David Puddy 04-11-2006, 09:29 PM Brian Gionta is 1 Goal behind Pat Verbeek for franchise record. Gio will have three more games to tie and set the record. It would be even more special if it happens against the Flyers.
DevilsFan38 04-11-2006, 09:32 PM The Devils win.
Langenbrunner: "It's not like Gio is tall enough to get a high-stick on that"
Hahaha, nice. Did he really say that?
Congrats to Gionta on his 45th, only one away from tying the record and two from breaking it! And congrats to Marty on his 40th win!
Great win tonight, man this really sucks not being able to watch the games. Can't wait till the playoffs!
David Puddy 04-11-2006, 09:33 PM 1 goal away from tying Verbeek, 2 from passing him.
It's possible, it's really possible this year.
LONG LIVE THE NEW NHL!!!You know what? When Gionta scored his 42nd Goal a few games ago, 21 were on the power player. Do you know how many of his 21 goals were on the man-advantage? None.
All I am saying is that it's more Gionta's progression than the New NHL.
sveiglar 04-11-2006, 09:33 PM Five 40 win seasons? Truly astounding.
Devils win! Devils win!
Telperiën 04-11-2006, 09:34 PM Thank you, Devils.
Verbeek12 04-11-2006, 09:37 PM great rally in OT. Gio does it again, on a blast from the missile! Geez I really wish we'd stop blowing leads in the final minute though. 8 in a row is sweet!
DevilFisch 04-11-2006, 09:37 PM You know what? When Gionta scored his 42nd Goal a few games ago, 21 were on the power player. Do you know how many of his 21 goals were on the man-advantage? None.
I'm...confused? Aren't you on the power play if you have a man-advantage? Doesn't the man advantage itself make the situation a power play?
devsfan8 04-11-2006, 09:40 PM Finally Once and for all this season......WE ARE AN ELITE TEAM. Yes we are. This team could seriously go 11-0 to finish out the season and finsish will 100 points.
Nobody is playing bad. We have the secondary scoring in Langenbrunner and Brylin and the 3rd line who gets it done. We have the finishers in Gomez, Gionta and Elias. We have 8 serviceable to solid defenseman to mix and match. We have a goaile who is not human. We are scoring when we need to. We have a solid special teams on both ends of the puck. We have found our road game and can be considered the Road Warriors again.
I am sorry everyone but this team is truly what is called ELITE. I cannot hold the losses to subpar teams against them. They are winning when they need to and they are beating top teams in the process. Those losses are simply defined as a slump.
Martin played well tonight. Lukowich played well even though he fell down on Carolina's 2nd goal, he still almost blocked the shot that scored. Even Klee looks good.
How can anybody be anything but pumped right now if they are a Devils fan?
devsfan8 04-11-2006, 09:42 PM I'm...confused? Aren't you on the power play if you have a man-advantage? Doesn't the man advantage itself make the situation a power play?
Because he was refering to the man advantage as 6-5 due to the net being vacated and the powerplay as 5-4 or 4-3 with the goalies. Atleast I think he was.
Clutch Mediocrity 04-11-2006, 09:43 PM Thank you, Devils.
Yep, thanks guys. I was pretty dissapointed when the Canes forced OT, but thanks for battling in OT and limiting them to a point. Any point out of Carolina's hands is a gift, we'll just have to work hard and win to take advantage of it.
DevilFisch 04-11-2006, 09:48 PM Because he was refering to the man advantage as 6-5 due to the net being vacated and the powerplay as 5-4 or 4-3 with the goalies.
Ohhhhh...I've been using the two terms interchangably all these years. Guess I've been misusing "man advantage?" Thanks, I think I get it now.
David Puddy 04-11-2006, 09:48 PM I'm...confused? Aren't you on the power play if you have a man-advantage? Doesn't the man advantage itself make the situation a power play? That was a power play goal. What I was pointing out was that Gionta didn't get on the power play, for the most part in 2003-04. Had he gotten significant time on the advantage, he could have had 30-35 goals that season.
This year he has 23 Goals on the power play thanks to that game-winner.
Sorry if my wording was confusing on my previous post. I am tired and excited at the same time.
Tao Jones 04-11-2006, 09:50 PM Yeah. I just think he may have cost more than Lou wanted to pay. I would have liked to have gotten Nieuwendyk back. He scored his 23rd for Florida tonight. I saw him play the Islanders, and he moved really nicely.
Let's go power play!
Nieuwendyk with a Hat Trick tonight.

OK, I really understand now. I have been using those terms correctly and I see your point. Not only did Gionta's production skyrocket on the power play, I imagine a lot of those goals were crucial in wins for the Devils.

He should be faster than that, it is jacked UNTIL I get a Stevens av from DP, with the hit I had in there, Stevens on Kozlov.

I am going to be thinking I am responding to svieglar. That was his trademark. Some posters you do not even have to look at the name just the avator. You should grab Clemmer or Vanderbeek even though you did jump at Cos the quickest.
Brooklyndevil 04-11-2006, 10:22 PM Just thinking that Marty has recorded his 40th without Stevens, Nieds or Dano. Well done!
Another thing, I just realized is that we're only 5 points behind the Rangers....Do we want them the beat Philly on Saturday? :dunno: I think they have the tie breaker being more goals.
devsfan8 04-11-2006, 10:31 PM Marty=40 Wins.
The most overrated goalie in NHL history records his 5th 40 win season. One step closer to the best that ever stood in the crease.
Congratulations Martin Brodeur.

Here is the scenario:
We win out 46-27-9 (101 pts.)
Flyers lose 2x to us, beat NYR, beat NYI 45-26-11 (101 pts.) We have tie break with more wins.
Rangers must lose all games but they can lose 1 in OT. They play Pit, Philly and Ott. Assuming they go 0-2-1 they would be 44-25-13 (101 pts.) lose tie break to both us and Flyers.
We would be Divison Champs, #3 seed.
Flyers 5 seed
Rangers 6 seed.

Devilsfanatic 04-11-2006, 10:43 PM I am going to be thinking I am responding to svieglar. That was his trademark. Some posters you do not even have to look at the name just the avator. You should grab Clemmer or Vanderbeek even though you did jump at Cos the quickest.
Vanderbeek sucks, that is all.

Can you imagine?
You should create a thread and copy and paste this post into it. Give it a clever title. The Ranger fans would see this and get very worried.
I still think it is a long shot. I think they get a point atleast against both Pitts. and Philly. But it is not out of the question when considering the scenario you just created.

caniacgirl12 04-11-2006, 11:40 PM I had great seats for tonights games, and I managed to get a picture of NJ scoring a goal, and the celebration afterwards along with a few others....for some reason attachments/links aren't working for me tonight so I will try to get them up for you guys tomorrow.

Great photos, thanks for sharing! Good luck in the playoffs, hope you beat everyone but us. And I'd like to give a shout out to Gerber and Justin Williams who did wonders for my fantasy team, even though I picked up then dropped Staal (doh!)... and picked up then dropped Gionta (again, doh!).

Thanks a lot Caniacgirl! You're good people!
caniacgirl12 04-12-2006, 12:24 AM I have some more I'll post up tomorrow. Theres some in our gdt. I took like 100-some so I need to go through and pick out the keepers. :D
Easton 04-12-2006, 02:25 AM They didn't look too happy when Gomez and Gio were celebrating. I'm assuming it's because they lost it in regulation.
Anyway, of all the Devils teams I've seen as a fan, this season's is the hardest working of them all. They overcame so much throughout the season and really worked on improving their game. With this 8-game win streak, we are playing extremely well and we have become a very capable team. Lou sums it up:
I tell you what, if there is any team we've had that deserves to get into the playoffs, and we've had some great ones, [it's] this team. The way they responded in the whole second half of the season and overcame so many little things.
Let's take it to the Flyers!
sveiglar 04-12-2006, 07:40 AM Vanderbeek sucks, that is all.
You don't want to go here. The Cos is spoken for.

Brooklyndevil 04-12-2006, 09:15 AM Laviolette accusing Marty of taking a dive. He might have embellished. However, I thought Williams knocked him down.

Any comments on the play?

If you loook closely in the background, you can see a lone Devils fan standing up and cheering. There are two more a couple seats to the left also.
Lots of Devils fans at the game last night.....three HUGE bald headed guys brought in a big Devil's flag, they were hilarious. When they walked in that entire half of the arena booed them, and they smiled and waved. Of course they were huge, so I was just going to boo behind my camera 50 ft away. :innocent:

Just want to say that you guys have an exciting team. And it was good to see Cole doing well during a Devils interview. I sure do not want to meet your team in the first round. Good luck the rest of the way, unless the Canes play the Devils.

I didnt get to see that. :( Did they say anything more about him being cleared to ride the bike or swimming?
David Puddy 04-12-2006, 11:04 AM I didnt get to see that. :( Did they say anything more about him being cleared to ride the bike or swimming? He was interviewed by FSN-NY's Matt Loughlin during the game. Eric Cole said that he will be re-evaluated on April 19, the six and-a-half week mark of his injury. He said that they would go from there. Also, Devils play-by-play man Doc Emrick said that Cole had told he and Chico Resch that he only gets about three hours of sleep each night because he has to wear the brace.
Also, thanks for posting your photos. They look great.
GentlemanOfLeisure 04-12-2006, 11:29 AM Can Someone make me one of those advators?? One with Claude Lemieux?? I feel old school!
