Hi NJ Fans,

Big Atlanta fan here and would love for us to make the playoffs and i'm a little worried that you guys won't play Brodeur against MTL for the last game of the season since you guys pretty much locked up a spot by tonights win against NYR.

I was wondering are you guys going to rest Brodeur once you are offically in or try and catch Philly for 5th and play Buffalo instead of NYR in the first round?

You guys are only 2 pts back of philly and but Philly has a game in hand but you play them two more times. Please try and finish 5th and beat MTL on the 18th and play Brodeur! :)

You'll definitely see Marty in net against Montreal.

Wow.

There's no possible way we could know the answer to this.

IIRC Tampa is doing much worse than MTL, so you're probably more chasing them...

Here's the short answer: if there's nothing at stake, we are not going to risk our best players. But the East is very tight right now so it looks like there probably will be somehing at stake, whether it's catching Philly or holding off Montreal.

GL to Atlanta, Kovalchuk is one of my favorite players in the league.

i know there isn't a way to answer it but, i'm also wondering do you want to play Buffalo or NYR in the first round? because i'm quite positive you guys will finish no worst then 6th.

Lou was asked about this once and stated that he doesn't look for matchups, and that he would never tank to try to finish in a certain slot. I believe him, Lou is obsessed with winning.

If you're asking me personally, I would actually like to avoid the Rangers in the 1st round. There's a lot of pent up frustration in their fans, and something tells me they're going to have huge first round home ice advantage.

I don't do such things, not after begging for CAR in 02.

That's when I learned my lesson as well.

The only way we don't play Brodeur in the last game is if we have sixth locked up. The way Montreal has been playing though that isn't a sure thing. We have Carolina and then Philly twice before then, they aren't easy games, we may have to win that one. I'd look at Tampa failing before the Devils or Montreal though.

It depends on both team's goalie situation. Will Lundquvist (2-1 vs. NJ) be healthy and regain his form by the time the playoff starts? Will Miller (0-2 vs. NJ) get his head together? If they don't, whose tougher to face: Weekes (2-3 vs. NJ) or Biron (1-1 vs. NJ)?

I'd prefer the Sabres because Biron hasn't done well against the Devils, Weekes has caused us problems and I'd love to see the Rags and Flyers kill each other in the first round. Not that I think Buffalo wouldn't be a tough series, especially at home since they haven't made the playoffs since 2001. Any playoff series will be tough for the Devils, I hope they play better on the road, their away record is a brutal 17-16-6.

Agree, i would love to see Flyer-Rangers just go at each other.. Like other posted though, i wish upon no opponent after the 'Canes incident..

Btw- That is a great man in your avatar.. L-Frank! :yo:

Count me as another one who will never wish for an "easier" matchup again.

If we have the sixth seed locked up and cannot get the fifth seed, then I could maybe see Marty sitting on the last day. Maybe. But I think odds are that he will play the last four games.

Buffalo right now. I wouldn't mind facing the Rangers though, purely for excitement reasons.

I rather have the Rangers play Philly and watch one of those teams get knocked out. But I remember wanting the Canes several years ago and they went to the finals. So as the saying goes "Be careful what you wish for."

That would of course be the perfect scenario.

The way the Devils are playing right now I can see them win out the rest of the season and go 11-0 into the playoffs. Currently Philly, NYR, Carolina want no part of the Devils right now in Round 1. We are playing elite hockey right now.

The only thing I worry about entering the postseason is the same thing that happened after we reeled off 9 in a row earlier this year...The team started to show fatigue. it is nice to play well entering the postseason but playing well for the Devils when they do not have the depth in the past could mean an early exit. I hate to be pessismistic and I am not going to be. Right now the Devils are good enough to be cup contenders..how could they not be? They have beaten all the teams ahead of them in the standings and have shown a hunger to win. Thise are 2 key ingredients for the post season. Everyone on the team is playing well.

The only issue is the fear of fatigue.

Being that i'm from Long Island and practically everyone of my friends is a Rags fan, I'd love to see NJ/NYR in the first round. If Rangers fans heads get any bigger they'll explode :shakehead

I just think its funny to hear them go on and on about ECF this SCF that when they have so little expierience and a lack of smart physical play (no, Ryan Hollweg doesn't count). I guess they've forgotten what the playoffs are like after 9 years...

Devils in 6 in that series :yo:

Was waiting for a post like that.. A Devils thread can not go on without the word "trap" being left out...

I'm sure fatigue was a factor, but I think the guys got lazy and stopped playing Devils hockey. Today's Bergen had an interesting quote from Gomer:

The Devils' seven-game winning streak is two short of their longest of the season (Jan. 3-21).

"We're back to the old way we used to play," center Scott Gomez said. "We're staying disciplined."

I dont care who we play anyone we play will be tough......

If we face Buffalo, they could be a tough team because they are alot like the 95 devs, no real superstars a young goalie, but everyone plays together.....

A NYR-NJD matchup would be very exciting, but if the Rangers play smart hockey and not stupid bonehead penalty games they could give us fits........

I think we do match up well with either one of Buffalo & the Rangers, and anytime you have Marty in net, your chances increase but hey you never know thats why you play who is thrown at you........I mean look at what happened in i believe 1998

1. Devils vs 8 Ottawa and we all know what happened......Same with 2002 against Carolina.

But i think if the Devils can play like this in the Playoffs, they can beat even Ottawa.........

BTW,

I dont care who we play, but i would love to beat the Rangers in the Playoffs just so we dont have to hear there fans saying, "Oh beat us in the Playoffs"

I want the Devils to face a hockey team and the Devils to beat them. Rangers, Flyers, Sabres, Senators, Hurricanes, your local pee-wee hockey club, whatever. In the playoffs, all I care about is winning.
