nhl.com game preview (http://www.nhl.com/scores/previews/1162_2_preview.html)
thefiestygoat 04-09-2006, 11:02 AM Go Devils! They better beat the Rangers. I'm assuming Weekes is still in net for the Rangers, right?
The Omen* 04-09-2006, 11:08 AM Still only have 1 line going into the Playoffs and Elias has had 1 good game in the last 15. That's not good news.
Brooklyndevil 04-09-2006, 11:11 AM I called for a 3-2 win yesterday. Hey, even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then. :D
As for tonight’s game, no predictions and after last nights effort, even if the Devils walk away with a point I'll be satisfied.
NJDevils#4 04-09-2006, 11:42 AM I also predicted 3-2 so Im going to go conservative tonight..I saw we lose in a shootout 4-3.
Goals from Gionta, Madden and Rafalski.
Easton 04-09-2006, 12:51 PM It'll be like a playoff game out there. Hopefully the team doesn't get too complacent from last night's win.
Feed Me A Stray Cat 04-09-2006, 02:14 PM Still only have 1 line going into the Playoffs and Elias has had 1 good game in the last 15. That's not good news.
Wow, never post again.
5-2 Rangers win.
DownFromNJ 04-09-2006, 02:23 PM At this point, we are only 4 points behind the Flyers, with two games left against them.
Brooklyndevil 04-09-2006, 02:35 PM I guess Lou has decided that Luc and Klee give them the best chance to win? Altought, Klee played well last night, I wonder if Abby and Hale will be in tonight. Maybe will even see Kozlov tonight.

Since Hale is very physical, I think he might be in tonight, since we've had success with playing physically against the Rangers before.
NaChOs 04-09-2006, 02:44 PM cmon devils we need this game to give us some breathing room
make it happen!!!!
Tbg1515 04-09-2006, 03:28 PM I think this will be a playoff type game, Devils will win 2-0, or 2-1.......Hale should be in the lineup, even though Klee & Luko played well last nite........I would hate to see it, but maybe Raffi needs a game off he's been looking very tired.........He may need a rest and we may need Hales physical presence......But i hope brian does play
Lineup should be
Parise-Gomez-Gio
Elias-Kozlov-langenbrunner
Brylin-Madden-Pandolfo
Marshall-Rasmussen-Marshall
Rafalski/Hale-Lukowich
Martin-White
Klee-Matvichuck
Broduer (Definitely) He's in the Zone!

Brylin-Madden-Pandolfo
Marshall-Rasmussen-Marshall
Rafalski/Hale-Lukowich
Martin-White
Klee-Matvichuck
Broduer (Definitely) He's in the Zone!I doubt that Hale will be part of the top pairing. I don't think they have that kind of confidence in him yet. I would like to see him and Albelin play tonight, but not at the cost of Rafalski.
I suspect it will look like this tonight:
Lukowich - Rafalski
White - Martin
Matvichuk - Klee (OR Hale - Albelin if rest is desired.)
Kozlov doesn't deserve to center the second line, and Pandolfo would be the LW if Brylin was put on that line. Pandolfo at LW is opposite the Rangers top RW, Jaromir Jagr. Pandolfo has to tell Lou the brand of gum Jagr is chewing after the game, to use Doc Emrick's favorite line from the movie Hoosiers.
TaiMaiShu 04-09-2006, 05:36 PM Devils are gunna win!
btw... kozov doesn't deserve to play at all :innocent:
NJDevils#4 04-09-2006, 06:06 PM Lineup should be
Parise-Gomez-Gio
Elias-Kozlov-langenbrunner
Brylin-Madden-Pandolfo
Marshall-Rasmussen-Marshall
Rafalski/Hale-Lukowich
Martin-White
Klee-Matvichuck
Broduer (Definitely) He's in the Zone!
Yikes...where do I begin?
NJDevils18 04-09-2006, 06:38 PM btw... kozov doesn't deserve to play at all :innocent:
100% correct :handclap: :handclap:
zarathustra1900 04-09-2006, 07:28 PM Oh it is ON tonight baby......
Jagr is hot as hell lately, well, more than usual it seems. If the Madden line plays their best, and if we can get away with a strong physical game (and protect our shooters at the same time) without taking penalties, we'll win....
...we cannot do 3 on 5s with these players on the NYR as was done last night and win.
But I am more concerned (READ: scared as Hell) to receive any serious injuries as well.
Best wishes!
blueliner 04-09-2006, 08:16 PM slightly OT, but it's been a compelling tilt b/w Tampa (1 game behind us on 89 points prior to tonight's game vs the Rag$) and Florida...Bolts skipped out to a 2-1 lead before the Cats came back to take a 3-2 lead early in the 3rd, only to have Tampa level it at 3-3...8-odd minutes remaining in regulation.
C'mon Panthers!
rwhite 04-09-2006, 08:22 PM Florida takes the lead with 4 min to play
Ronnie Bass 04-09-2006, 08:31 PM Thank God Mike Emerick is back behind the mike tonight, I can't take Matt Louglin.
rwhite 04-09-2006, 08:32 PM Florida beat Tampa 6-3. That's good news for NJ.
borrachon 04-09-2006, 08:39 PM Is Hale sick or something?
TaiMaiShu 04-09-2006, 08:39 PM Ohh ****

TaiMaiShu 04-09-2006, 08:43 PM hard hit from hollweg kinda from behind
NYRangers 04-09-2006, 08:44 PM What happened?
Hollweg crushed him, his face went into the glass extremely hard. Tons of blood everywhere.
blueliner 04-09-2006, 08:45 PM dang NHLradio is giving the Ranger audio feed instead of the Devs one...bah!
TaiMaiShu 04-09-2006, 08:50 PM lines seemed tweaked now elias is out with gomez and parise
TaiMaiShu 04-09-2006, 08:53 PM penalty on rangers

TaiMaiShu 04-09-2006, 08:59 PM WHOOOO 1 0 on a rass tip on PP
edit was brylin and a rass screen
SmokeyClause 04-09-2006, 09:00 PM Hollweg crushed him, his face went into the glass extremely hard. Tons of blood everywhere.
Looked like his forehead hit the dasher. Definitely didn't think it was a dirty play from Hollweg, but it absolutely should have been a boarding (if that's not being violently thrown into the boards, what is?). He probably should have been given 5 and a game based solely on the severity of the hit and proper application of Rule 44(b).
HBK27 04-09-2006, 09:00 PM :yo: 1-0 Devils!
Jersey Fresh 04-09-2006, 09:00 PM Looks like Brylin! Nice job Hollweg, all you did was get Sergei pissed!
blueliner 04-09-2006, 09:00 PM wooooooooooooooooooo!
atta way Sarge...gutsy work.
The Pens Are Back 04-09-2006, 09:00 PM whats the consensus on who devil fans want to play in the playoffs?
personnally i'm hoping you guys get to play the rangers...that will be some good hockey to watch

And he's quickly getting a reputation for that sorta thing.

Captain Lou 04-09-2006, 09:03 PM Great puck possession by Parise at the point on that goal.

not to mention a quick exit from the playoffs for the rangers :innocent:
Happy Girl 04-09-2006, 09:05 PM Kind of OT and I apologize but I just saw that you guys signed Andy Greene from Miami University. Where do you see him being assigned?
thanks - sorry to interupt your GDT.

dunna... know anything about him
Happy Girl 04-09-2006, 09:16 PM dunna... know anything about him
Miami plays a very defensive system - he should be a good fit on to your team. I think if he was about 4 inches taller and a few pounds heavier he would've been drafted before now. IMO the CCHA has gotten a bit soft lately so I am anticipating he will spend some time in the minors before getting the call up. But I don't know enough about your team and your blueline to really make an educated guess.
Brooklyndevil 04-09-2006, 09:17 PM Sometimes it's better just to let sleeping midgets lay.... Gotta love Sarge. Nice Job by the special teams so far.
Captain Lou 04-09-2006, 09:18 PM Another game, another set of opposition fans crying
TaiMaiShu 04-09-2006, 09:19 PM Miami plays a very defensive system - he should be a good fit on to your team. nice... no one likes the smaller players like the Devils. He definately helps us in our D prospects. I would imagine he could/would play in the AHL
Brooklyndevil 04-09-2006, 09:26 PM Bs Call
I agree. It looked like the ranger player swung his stick and it broke as it hit Weimer stick. :dunno:
Jersey Fresh 04-09-2006, 09:33 PM Hollweg goes up high on Rafalski. I seriously hate that piece of ****.
Islanders4Life* 04-09-2006, 09:35 PM What a cheap ******* that Hoielweg is,, what was he thinking???
Captain Lou 04-09-2006, 09:44 PM Even before the hit, Rafalski was not playing well tonight. He needs to be more assertive as the QB of that long PP, and nobody moved or tried to make something happen, thus no goal or good chances even.
lucscaps 04-09-2006, 09:47 PM why hasn't weimer taken care of hollweg yet? Why hasn't anyone taken care of him yet?
NJDevils#4 04-09-2006, 09:47 PM Man Brodeur is flat out heating up down the stretch...we're playing very well in the defensive end at the right time....
Marty heating up around playoff time = scary for the Eastern Conference.
NJDevils#4 04-09-2006, 09:48 PM We're all over Jagr.
TaiMaiShu 04-09-2006, 09:53 PM damn 1-1
NJDevils#4 04-09-2006, 09:53 PM Damn, roofed it on Marty. 1-1.

Since no one else piped in, Greene will spend the rest of this regular season with the Devils and not in Albany. He'll play in AHL next year, but the Devils' defensive prospects are real thin so he is now one of our top two d-men prospects. So he could be called up next year because of injury or he could make the team out of training camp in 2007-08. It all depends on how he plays in the AHL.
Ronnie Bass 04-09-2006, 09:54 PM As if Colin White doesn't give us enough reasons to hate him.
Captain Lou 04-09-2006, 09:56 PM Unless the "A" on White's sweater stands for ***hole, then it should be removed immediately.
devil122 04-09-2006, 09:56 PM is it me or are there more rangers fans in the continental air lines arena than the devils fans
Ronnie Bass 04-09-2006, 09:57 PM And now White commits a stupid penalty to boot.
Jersey Fresh 04-09-2006, 09:59 PM And now a fluke goal by Ozolinsh.
Islanders4Life* 04-09-2006, 09:59 PM is it me or are there more rangers fans in the continental air lines arena than the devils fans
you should have seen the COliseum last week, it was the most embaressing thing I ever witnessed, I felt like like a prisoner in my own arena,, while the attendance was probably about 50/50(maybe a few more Isles fans) it sure appeared and felt like the Rangers dominated that arena
And I am watching the game and there are probably more Devil fans, ranger fans are just more vocal as there team is finally winning so they are coming out of the wood work....
NJDevils#4 04-09-2006, 10:01 PM Jesus, a goal and then another penalty
Colin Whites Eye 04-09-2006, 10:01 PM damnit White, all these stupid penalties.....
2-1 rags
NYRangers 04-09-2006, 10:01 PM The last game vs Boston it honestly looked 70/30 for Ranger fans when they showed a goal and how many fans stood. I've been hearing a lot of "Weeeeekes" chants tonight.
TaiMaiShu 04-09-2006, 10:03 PM uh oh jagr just nailed the linesman
he tripped near the blue line and hit the refs knee
M-B-30 04-09-2006, 10:10 PM think Janssen will fight with Halwig?
rwhite 04-09-2006, 10:12 PM As if Colin White doesn't give us enough reasons to hate him.
What did he do? I can't watch the game.
The Pens Are Back 04-09-2006, 10:18 PM think Janssen will fight with Halwig?
i dont think holweg will try to fight him after getting his lights turned out the last time

Thanks! I really hope Greene turns out to be a Danny Boyle type of player. Good luck tonight. Hope you guys can pull out a win against the Rags.
TaiMaiShu 04-09-2006, 10:23 PM Thanks! I really hope Greene turns out to be a Danny Boyle type of player. Good luck tonight. Hope you guys can pull out a win against the Rags.
that would be nice... no great.
Captain Lou 04-09-2006, 10:25 PM Allright, forget about that period. Tie it up and win it in OT.
Let's go boys!
M-B-30 04-09-2006, 10:33 PM i wanna see janssen net the tying goal :yo:
Ronnie Bass 04-09-2006, 10:33 PM What did he do? I can't watch the game.
You don't wanna know.
TaiMaiShu 04-09-2006, 10:34 PM i just remembered this is a back to back game
TaiMaiShu 04-09-2006, 10:36 PM how many times tonight did our D give an outlet oass the their's?
Jersey Fresh 04-09-2006, 10:39 PM How many Ranger fans do you think will acknowledge the fact that they are TRAPPING right now?
I say, 0.
TaiMaiShu 04-09-2006, 10:40 PM hey how about that trap defense by the ranger?
TaiMaiShu 04-09-2006, 10:42 PM OMG WHAT A BACKHAND Gomez is an effin sniper 2-2 :yo:

Colin Whites Eye 04-09-2006, 10:44 PM lets score on this PP, cmon boys
GentlemanOfLeisure 04-09-2006, 10:44 PM I dont think the NYR want to see Nj in the playoffs. Not a good match up for them. They'd have better luck with Phili or Tampa.
Jersey Fresh 04-09-2006, 10:45 PM Giontaaa!!!!!!!!!!!
TaiMaiShu 04-09-2006, 10:45 PM LILLLL GGGGG first line has exploded

Jared Ramsden 04-09-2006, 10:59 PM Huge win tonight....sounded like a playoff type game....Almost got the playoff spot locked up....I didn't get to see any of the game, but I didn't hear Jagr's name very often on the broadcast....was he more or less held in check???
DevilsFan38 04-09-2006, 11:01 PM ENORMOUS win tonight by the Devils. Second half of a back-to-back, coming off a great win against the Habs, and beating the Rags. Freaking awesome.
devils1983 04-09-2006, 11:02 PM Huge win tonight....sounded like a playoff type game....Almost got the playoff spot locked up....I didn't get to see any of the game, but I didn't hear Jagr's name very often on the broadcast....was he more or less held in check???
All the boys need is one more point to lock up a playoff spot.
A_Mack17 04-09-2006, 11:02 PM Rangers fans are complaining about the officiating on their board. I am unable to watch the game, were the refferees bad in this one?

We do an excellent job on him - especially Pando - Jagr has only six points in eight games against us.

no, there was one missed call for either team. everything was pretty decent.
marshall got called for punching prucka, prucka return swing wasnt called.
Captain Lou 04-09-2006, 11:03 PM I hoenstly can't remember a good Ranger scoring chance in the entire 3rd period.
Memo to Lou: SIGN GOMEZ NOW. He is on his way to superstardom in this league. Can anyone here believe he has 31 goals? And how awesome was that coast to coast rush and score? Every time he gets speed through that neutral zone, good things happen.
Big win, great job. 2 pts behind Philly.
Go get those candycanes!
thefiestygoat 04-09-2006, 11:04 PM Wow, what a game. I almost had a heart attack numerous times. Thank You Devils for the great effort!
Captain Lou 04-09-2006, 11:06 PM Top two things heard on the Ranger board tonight.
1. The refereeing was terrible tonight!
2. We can't play the trap as well as the Devils!
They better hope we catch the Flyers. :D
Brooklyndevil 04-09-2006, 11:06 PM What a fantastic comeback a great weekend of Devils hockey....Wow!
And Scotty Gomez (The Missile) has finally arrived as a leader of this team and is one of the most exciting players in the game right now in my opinion.
Jared Ramsden 04-09-2006, 11:08 PM We do an excellent job on him - especially Pando - Jagr has only six points in eight games against us.
Pandolfo used to be super unappreicated on this board by some posters, but it's clear that he's one of the best checking forwards in the league. I was fearful of a 1st round match up with the Rangers, but if Marty plays like he has been and Pando and Madden can hold Jagr in check, a Devils/Rangers series would be an awesome first round tilt.....
Jonnyyy 04-09-2006, 11:08 PM Huge Win!! It was a very phyiscal game! Marty is on fire!! Watch out Flyers, here we come!!!

Can't wait to see the highlights....was that rush simliar to the one he had last night in Montreal on the Devils 2nd goal???

Not me Jared, he's been one of my boys and have been singing his praises for years, you would be shocked how many of my Devils friends thought I was nuts.
Devilsfanatic 04-09-2006, 11:11 PM Wow, glad the arena was 60-40 Rangers fans :shakehead
VERY exciting game however.
Ronnie Bass 04-09-2006, 11:12 PM Can't wait to see the highlights....was that rush simliar to the one he had last night in Montreal on the Devils 2nd goal???
Let me put it this way, it was one of the best coast to coast goals I have ever seen, it was that freakin' good.
borrachon 04-09-2006, 11:15 PM Someone should call a waaaahmbulance for the Rangers board
Good job winning the 2nd game of a back-to-back, especially with travel inbetween.
Verbeek12 04-09-2006, 11:16 PM "whaaaaa that was the worst officiating ever" whaaaa they gave the game to the Devils...
please. get used to new NHL already after 80 games!
memo to Rangers fans:
no matter the situation they call everything! so get used to it. They made all these changes to combat big bad evil teams such as ou beloved Devils that were supposedly "ruining hockey" Bottom line the Blue shirts had the game and as has been the case Gomer and Gio come through right when we need them!
Easton 04-09-2006, 11:17 PM Memo to Lou: SIGN GOMEZ NOW.
DO IT, LOU!!! Give him the long-term contract he's been wanting. He definitely considers himself a Devil now.
UNSUNG PLAYER OF THE GAME: JAY PANDOLFO!!! Let me hear that line again, David Puddy.
THE game fo the year!
Captain Lou 04-09-2006, 11:17 PM Let me put it this way, it was one of the best coast to coast goals I have ever seen, it was that freakin' good.
Not only that, but Rafalski will never get an easier assist!
Boy has Gomez really elevated his game. JD said something interesting after the game: That the Devils won because their stars were their best players and played like it tonight. And he is right. Pando did an unbelievable job shutting down Jagr and Straka and Nylander's names were hardly even called.
Jared Ramsden 04-09-2006, 11:18 PM Not me Jared, he's been one of my boys and have been singing his praises for years, you would be shocked how many of my Devils friends thought I was nuts.
Some teams are able to find the top line talent with ease, but can't unearth the good role players. Pandolfo is exactly what you'd want in a 3rd line checking winger.....

absolutely! Pando and Maddog are right back to playing Devils playoff defense.

Honestly, I heard Ortmeyer's name more tonight than I heard Jagr's name. Madden has been the man, but has Pandolfo elevated himself past Madden in terms of defensive play this season?
joeskow 04-09-2006, 11:27 PM great win. Devs back to playing like they did in january. great time to get HOT!

The Pens Are Back 04-09-2006, 11:29 PM Rangers fans are complaining about the officiating on their board. I am unable to watch the game, were the refferees bad in this one?
if you read their board...they haven't lost a game yet that wasn't the officials fault. i guess they get their cue from JD on MSG TV.
i like listening to emerick and chico (more insight) but tune into MSG to hear JD crying

Tell me about it. Besides two mistakes the refs were pretty good in this game. They let them battle and throw the hits but nothing out of hand. That's what the Rangers get for taking out one of their guys...Jagr!
The Pens Are Back 04-09-2006, 11:33 PM i guess they didn't mention the 2 calls hollweg got away with. this guy is probably the dirtiest player in the league. can't wait till someone tunes him out again

If the refs missed anything on Hollweg, they made it up by slapping him with a major instead of a minor for charging.

Draft Guru 04-09-2006, 11:41 PM And then they made up that one by calling a phantom roughing call on Marshall. :p:
Phantom? Marshall tried to pick up Prucha and throw him over the boards. Clear as day. Prucha should have been called too, for taking a swing at Marshall.
Marshall got away with a blatant elbow on Tyutin with the ref 5 feet away, and less than a minute later Gomez scored to tie it up. Important games like this, with significant playoff implications, should not be reffed by rookies and young officials. Thankfully in the playoffs the rookies will be sitting at home on the couch.
Devils got the breaks in this one and capitalized on their opportunities, so kudos to them.
Unthinkable 04-09-2006, 11:42 PM how was the macinnis ceremony i was stuck between that and watching how brylin got hit lol

I wasn't an elbow man, I know because of Fire Sather claiming it was in another thread and I went back to look at it - gotta love TiVo - and super slow-mo it and from the angle from behind the net you could see he actually did hit him with his shoulder.

I agree with you completely that the refereeing in this league is horrible, and I bolded what you typed to say that it was a BS power play the Rangers got. And they only got that PP because the Devils scored on their previous PP. FYI the ref that made the call was Rob Shick who is no rookie. (He has had many a year of practice of making terrible calls, not just one or two)
Vodka Drunkenski 04-09-2006, 11:51 PM It wasn't an elbow, just like Kasparitus' wasn't an elbow either. Anyway, good game by the Devils...picked up two huge points.
crashlanding 04-09-2006, 11:52 PM Just got back from the game...man that was exciting.
There were more Devils fans than Rangers fans but the Rangers fans are extreeeeemely vocal. If anyone wonders where the "loudmouth New Yorker" stereotype comes from just look at their fans. Nothing wrong with that, it brings more excitement, it just makes every Ranger fan sound like three when you watch at home.
Were the Rangers double shifting Jagr in the first and halfway through the second? Every time I looked up he was on the ice...which brings me to my next point, JAY "the man" PANDOLFO. It was amazing to watch him just follow Jagr all the way around the ice covering him like a blanket. Those are some of the things that you miss when you watch the broadcast at home, hard underappreciated work.
Hollweg...kind of a dick. I was shocked he didn't get a boarding penalty on the Brylin hit but I think the refs made up for it by making the charge a 5 minute major. I didn't think the refs were too bad, the Wiemer penalty where Tyutin broke his stick on a shot was BS, two minutes for faulty equipment. I could see where they were going with the Marshall rough, he tried too hard to put Prucha into the bench it took too long so it was kind of like holding...but they should have got the swing Prucha took at him too.
The trap. Teams should study Gomez, seriously. Plays like that led to our last two goals. Gomez's coast to coaster and Elias drew a hooking call trying to do the same thing. If anything the trap inspires exciting plays like that and it's the greats that can adapt and change the game while others just whine and fail.
White is a moron. Period.
I'm so glad they won because I would have been sick if they lost to the Rangers...even the thought turns my stomach.
Best game I've been to all year, I think I lost my voice from yelling.
el perro 04-09-2006, 11:52 PM I honestly don't want to play the Devils in the playoffs at all. They have been getting help from the Refs all year long. They changed the rules to watch for clutching and grabbing and interference to counter-act the BS the Devils have done for years, YET, the Devils are the least Penalized team in the league...hmmm. Something fishy is going on.
Oh no, we changed the rules so the Devils wouldn't win, and now they're winning (and not taking penalties) again! The refs must be helping them out.

I swear you look at him and you just know he's going to do something dumb. That was a textbook boarding call, he didn't turn at the last second, White just wanted to take someone out because we just got scored on. He also tried to make a big hit early in the game that led to a decent Rangers scoring chance. I honestly thought he changed his game this year. Shame on me for believing that.

Hell, even Chico saw it!
I guess they don't play it as well as we do, huh? ;)

Finally, the refs are calling the game the way they have been calling it at MSG for years. The Garden has always had it's own set of rules, the MSG rules, at least in the Messier era, maybe they were the Messier rules. The Devs get some home calls after nearly a quarter century. About time. Well earned. After the Brodeur rule, the redline pass removal (the Mario Jagr Crosby rule), and NYR's steal of a NHL approved deal on Jagr's contract, NYR fans can whine their way right to the golf links after the first round, because they are built for the regular season, not the playoffs. If NYR and others didn't hand out ridiculous contracts to shut down the league, maybe so many veteran officials wouldn't have declined to return after the lockout. :p:

It was as if Marty was farting the whole third period or something, the Rangers forecheckers just disappeared.
The problem is when Gomez was coming up the ice they were all standing flat footed like a certain traffic control tool that I can't quite think of....ah yes pylons, they were pylons for Scottie to skate around.

Easton 04-10-2006, 12:02 AM Well, you know Whitey. He gets so into these games and loses himself ever once in a while but he brings so much more to our game. Other than Luke and maybe Matty, we don't have many traffic-clearing defensemen. He also, as he's showed us in this game, takes it upon himself to protect his fellow teammates.

Exactly. Hell, I think it's a good thing that Rangers fans (and fans of other teams we've beaten recently) are whining. "The refs beat us." "The Devils are boring." "How can the refs miss the devils clutching and grabbing like that?"
It's been a constant in the past decade that when the Devils play well, fans of other teams ***** and moan. Good sign going into the playoffs.

I agree but honestly I was sitting on the complete other side of the Arena and I could just feel that White was going to try to make a big hit to get the momentum back on our side. He missed a couple and then went for the easy hit from behind. I have no problem with him playing with fire like that but he can't take such blatant penalties when we're already somewhat on the ropes.

It looked that way because he led with the shoulder - he really went out of his way too throw it - and from the back view it looks like an elbow.

I agree 100%. I used to despise White, he was the guy on the team that I hated the most for years. However, this year he has turned me, someone very critical of his every move, into a big supporter of him. He still does take some bad penalties but not nearly as many as he used to, and as you stated, he has been one of our best defenseman all year. This guy is improving every year, I love the leader he is turning into. Go Colin White!

It's just really hard to get behind him when he takes one dumb penalty a game like he's been doing recently.

Pando, Sergei, Gomer, gio, mad dog, and Marty all heroes. . The entire team (excluding white perhaps, but I find him hard to criticize as frustrating as he can be with penalties) played well and their hearts out it sounds!
I must say NY game radio is much more descriptive play by play than ours at least.

He was the best, I think he got throat cancer, pretty sad.
The play by play guy now just reminds me of Laughlin, just poor. I dread the day that Doc hangs 'em up. Our broadcast teams are like our defense pairings, balanced. One stay at home okay guy (Chico/radio play by play guy) and one flashy offensive defenseman (Doc and Randy).

Didn't MM leave to go and manage some other team?

Well if you want to know where all the crying comes from, just listen to Rug Rosen and John "Homer" Davidson. I am watching Rangers in 60 and it is now obvious why all the Rag fans cry and whine all the time. They didn't stop *****ing the entire 1st period. I am sure it will get worse.

No, you were right, he had throat cancer. John Hennessey was actually the Rats PBP guy and filled in for Mike while he was getting treatment. John got his job, full time, after that season (I think).

Ok, I have to say something now. Chico freakin Reisch is your color guy and you're calling JD a homer?
Blackjack 04-10-2006, 01:08 AM Ok, I have to say something now. Chico freakin Reisch is your color guy and you're calling JD a homer?
Chico is a homer but he's weak and even jokes about it sometimes.
JD is always trying to sound authoritative. Believe me, Devils fans roll their eyes at some of the things Chico says, but it's innocuous.
Devilsfanatic 04-10-2006, 01:10 AM Ok, I have to say something now. Chico freakin Reisch is your color guy and you're calling JD a homer?

You will get no argument form me about Chico. He is absolutely horrendous. Especially the way he gives Marty a pass on every bad play he makes. However, I just watched the 3rd period on MSG and Rosen missed the call on both Devil goals because of JD's *****ing and moaning. THAT is terrible announcing, no matter how you cut it. It's no wonder that all you people do is complain about the refs. I don't want to get into a war about this, but it is ridiculous the way everyone now blames the refs for losing them the games.
I Hate Tie DOMI 04-10-2006, 01:18 AM JMac why do you have to go and ruin everything for me? :dunno:

Sheesh. I'm so dissappointed. :(
By the way I sure hope he'd be able to block a few shots as he causes about as many goals as he blocks. He had 2 assists for the Rangers tonight, but they don't count in his stats.

Agree.. I'm watchin Rangers in 60 right now and it's not liek the Devils even scored.. Sounded like Rosen was about to cry after the Gionta goal... JD did love the Gomez goal though.

LOL, they made a great play to get his clearing attempt, and the penalty was iffy, leave Whitey alone.

I think it's hilarious. My neighbor works for MSG and when the Devils were slumping I made a joke about how MSG must be enjoying their troubles. He said 'actually, we want the Devils to do well because it means better ratings'.
:dunno:
Vodka Drunkenski 04-10-2006, 01:26 AM lol, kasparitis' hit wasn't an elbow.....and Im white :biglaugh:
Funny how Devils fans change their tune with it's their own player making the hit with the elbow. Both were elbows...let's move on now.
I Hate Tie DOMI 04-10-2006, 01:29 AM LOL, they made a great play to get his clearing attempt, and the penalty was iffy, leave Whitey alone.
Great play? He lightly lifted it right to the Ranger player (Betts?). All (Betts?) had to do is be talented enough to catch a puck coming right at him going 1 mile per hour. I could have made that catch so I'm certain a professional athlete could as well.
Colin Whites Eye 04-10-2006, 01:31 AM i didnt get to see the game, only listent to it on the radio.
but i just watched the highlights on nhl.com and seeing them got me so jacked up, its crazy
the best part is after gomer scored, you can see him say "***** yeah!"
crashlanding 04-10-2006, 01:31 AM I just got done watching Rangers in 60...they should rename it to "Sam and JD critiquing every single freakin' call."
Do these guys EVER defer to the refs? Say what you will about Chico but when they make a call he doesn't like at least he either gives the ref the benefit of the doubt or tries to make excuses for him, "Well from his angle he could have seen blah blah blah"
They sucked the fun right out of the game by arguing about every single play. It is also fun because half of the posts from the Rangers fans are what JD says verbatim. Seriously, grow a brain and use it guys. Does JD tell you what to wear in the morning as well?
They even showed the Kasparitis hit on Marshall and I still can't believe how many people still think that's a shoulder. You can see his elbow come up and everything.
First and foremost though, I DON'T need to be told when a penalty is a good call, just show the replay and I'll see it for myself. Everytime they talk about it being a good call they are subtly implying that this was one of the good calls or they finally got it right. Unbelievable, I know they're paid by Dolan but c'mon you think after 8 years without playoffs they would have been beyond the "Rangers are infallible" sentiment.

Eh the Rangers sent two guys on the forecheck and he tried to chip it off the glass and out, didn't make it. I blame one of the forwards for not backchecking more than White.

What are you talking about? Had Jason Ward not been 6'3" he might not have gotten that puck. White did a fine job tonight and held the top Ranger line in check. Your anti-White stuff is really unwarranted and is getting pretty tiring.
David Puddy 04-10-2006, 08:31 AM What are you talking about? Had Jason Ward not been 6'3" he might not have gotten that puck. White did a fine job tonight and held the top Ranger line in check. Your anti-White stuff is really unwarranted and is getting pretty tiring.I agree with you. White was alone on that play because Matvichuk pinched in to try to throw a big check on Jason Ward and was late in changing.
Colin White, like Jay Pandolfo, was a big reason why the only point in the game by Jaromir Jagr was a power play assist. The guy that will probably win the Hart, the Art Ross and the Rocket Richard Trophies was held (figuratively, because the Devils are not a cluch and grab team) in check during 5-on-5 by the shadowing of Jay Pandolfo and the support of Colin White. Whitey led all players in the game with 6 Blocked Shots. No one else on New Jersey had more than 2 Blocked Shots. Did White lead the Devils in Give Aways last night? No. Paul Martin, Patrick Elias and Martin Brodeur each had 2 Give Aways. One of Brodeur's was a Rick "The Dip" DiPietro style pass right to an opposing player. That player's name was Jaromir Jagr. Does any of that diminish the great games those guys had? No. In the same fashion, one play and one penalty shouldn't diminish the numerous other things that White did last night to help the Devils win the game.

I agreee...White made the right play, there's no way you could fault him for that goal. He had a very solid game.
Drewr15 04-10-2006, 10:00 AM I'd like to point out that the only power play the Rangers scored on was White's because he wasn't there to help kill it. White did a great job last night. Give the Ranger player credit who jumped up and kept that puck for the first goal, I don't think that was a bad play by White as much as a great read and play by the Ranger player. I totally forgot who though. ;)
Brooklyndevil 04-10-2006, 10:10 AM I was just thinking: Montreal had the Rocket and we now have the Missile!
Seriously, the Devils have really surprised me with this lastest run. Other then Pittsburgh, which gives us fits anyway, we have beaten the best in the east. I didn't think they could be this good. However, I'm quite happy I was wrong!
Brooklyndevil 04-10-2006, 10:16 AM I'm no authority on the Ranger board, but many of their excellent posters like "Fletch" and others weren't part of the posting that went on their game thread. The Rangers have an excellent team that I respect and excellent posters as well. Now that I said my peace, can't wait for Tuesday night.
NJDevs430 04-10-2006, 01:28 PM Good game.
Best Chico quote of the night: "For the record, the Rangers are playing the trap."
}:-)>
I love Gionta's little "Lambeau Leap" after he scored. Devils need to concentrate on getting the ugly goals (especially against a guy like Weekes) - whenever they line up the slap shot from outer space, it's either going to get blocked or the tender will stop it.
I loved Scott Gomez move to tie the game, that was a thing of beauty.
After Hollweg hit Brylin, you could see Janssen was spoiling for a confrontation...I wonder if Lou reeled him in a bit - he played less than Wiemer and Rasmussen.
Did anyone else notice this?
After Whitey got hit by Hollweg (it looked like Hollweg ended up getting the worst of that hit), Orr came over to White and spoke with him, but Colin's eyes were huge as saucers (kinda like a cat gets when you tease them) and he had this sorta dErAnGed look on his face...

Easton 04-10-2006, 05:50 PM I'm watching the game again on MSG and on two of the Rangers penalties JD keeps repeating, "Oh, he's a young referee."
Drewr15 04-10-2006, 05:57 PM The calls were pretty inconsistent both ways. They got a couple of gift power plays and got away with some penalties too.
JD is my favorite analyst, when he's not doing Ranger games that is. For Ranger games he just puts up his blinders and is as much of a homer as well chico or any other home team's color analyst i guess. On national games when the rangers aren't involved though i enjoy him thoroughly.

sundstrom32* 04-10-2006, 06:42 PM Wow, glad the arena was 60-40 Rangers fans :shakehead
VERY exciting game however.
Was not 60-40........ maybe 40-60 either way it is good to see the rangers fans help sell out the building.. since the rags have been brutal the devs v rags games were not selling out.
as much as we all hate the rags it is exciting that they are making the playoffs along w/ philly good for hockey in this area, and good for hockey in general when major market teams make it.
Ronnie Bass 04-10-2006, 06:48 PM Anyone hear about the status of Matvichuk's injury?
TaiMaiShu 04-10-2006, 07:07 PM again?
devsfan8 04-10-2006, 07:40 PM again?
He looked a little sore leaving the ice. No injury announcement as of yet and no reason to worry until we hear something. But he clearly looked like he was in pain.
devsfan8 04-10-2006, 07:44 PM The best part of last night was watching the sea of Barber polls empty out of the CAA like Diarheaa. Gosh I hate the Rangers. I have more respect for their fans then some other teams but the arrogance gets me fired up.
The officiating last night was not great but it was not great for either team. Both teams trapped but the Devils did so better. If the Rangers won last night that 500 post thread on the Ranger board would not have had much criticism about the offciating or the boring end to end goal of Gomez and latwe timely goal of Gionta last night and all season.
The Devils are so EXCITING to watch right now and last night wass a truly awesome win. Ranger fans should want no part of the Devils in Round 1.
I am also one of the few Devils fans of my arena friends (and I am sure many posters on this board) that want to see the Devils beat the Rangers to win the series....AT THE GARDEN. I want their fans to view it. No disrepsect to the Rangers team and players as they are a greatteam this year and the playoff birth is a success in their own right.
Easton 04-10-2006, 08:00 PM I am also one of the few Devils fans of my arena friends (and I am sure many posters on this board) that want to see the Devils beat the Rangers to win the series....AT THE GARDEN.
You're crazy, man.
devsfan8 04-10-2006, 08:12 PM You're crazy, man.
I would still be elated if the Devils won the series at home. I would be cherishing every minute of it that we got over the hump and watch their fans exit the building as all Devils fans united are going nuts. Don't get me wrong. But I personally, like to really look to make a statement and to win the series at MSG would be sweet in their building in front of their fans.
I know for sure you would want the Devils to win it at first opportunity. IF they were up 3-1 with game 5 at MSG (they would have home ice) I am sure you would want the Devils to end it right then and there. I would not want to play around with the Rangers this year. they are an excellent team. I am sure you would want it to happen more at home but I want their fans to witness the Devils put an end to their season in their building.
This is my own fun little personal preference, I certainly do not blame you for disagreeing. :)
