 Lets win this one boys this is a big one, I want to knock the Rangers out first round.
My pick...3-2 Devils
1 Gomez from Rafalski
2 Langenbrunner from Madden, White
3 Gionta from Elias, Gomez

Anyone think we could have 2 100 point rookies? Has this ever happened before? I dont think so...
baldrick 04-08-2006, 11:43 AM Hold onto your shorts folks the Bell Centre will be ROCKING, whoever wins its going to be a great game! :jump:
Easton 04-08-2006, 11:47 AM Both teams have been matching each other with wins for the past week. Keep a close eye on the Tampa game who's two points behind.
Brooklyndevil 04-08-2006, 11:50 AM I'll tell you guys we need at least two points out of this weekend. A win tonight in Montreal would be much more impressive and Sunday's game won't be as big and maybe Clemmer starts against the Rags. However, a loss tonight and the game Vs. the Rangers becomes much bigger and our record playing backto back isn't exactly something to brag about. So, lets go out and put an end the Hab's streak tonight. I believe Marty will play great tonight. 3 - 2 Devil win. :
thefiestygoat 04-08-2006, 12:02 PM Go Devils! This should be a great game to watch, with both teams giving it all they got. I can't wait.

Brodeur will play every game remaining....and clemmer wont dress i dont think..Doyle was called up..Clemmer is Ill...ESPN was reporting
Brooklyndevil 04-08-2006, 12:32 PM Brodeur will play every game remaining....and clemmer wont dress i dont think..Doyle was called up..Clemmer is Ill...ESPN was reporting
Thanks for the info.
Shabutie 04-08-2006, 12:36 PM Should be a good game boys. I expect a fight between Patrick Elias and Mark Streit off the opening face off.
mcphee 04-08-2006, 01:55 PM Let's go directly to OT, just to annoy TB. Something about Torterella, pleases me when he's unhappy.
Scoot 04-08-2006, 02:00 PM I hope it's a fair game tonight where the players decide the game, I hope that the refs don't get intimidated by the crowd at the Bell center and give the Habs phantom powerplays, If any of you watched the Hab-Bruin game you'll know what I'm talking about.
Easton 04-08-2006, 02:17 PM Crap, I don't think Doc will be doing the game. He's doing the Rangers game right now on NBC. God, I hate Loughlin.
David Puddy 04-08-2006, 02:20 PM Brodeur will play every game remaining....and clemmer wont dress i dont think..Doyle was called up..Clemmer is Ill...ESPN was reportingThat's probably right unless the Devils are locked into a playoff position.
I hope Paul Martin is over whatever he had during the last Pittsburgh game. If he has the same thing Clemmensen has, Paul may not be able to play.
David Puddy 04-08-2006, 02:27 PM Crap, I don't think Doc will be doing the game. He's doing the Rangers game right now on NBC.I highly doubt he will. Also, did the voices not match the lips for you when Doc and JD were talking before the game? It was like a poorly dubbed Japanese film for me.
Easton 04-08-2006, 02:29 PM I wasn't looking when they were talking.
Tao Jones 04-08-2006, 02:40 PM Let's go directly to OT, just to annoy TB. Something about Torterella, pleases me when he's unhappy.
That would clinch the season series for us and a tie breaker after wins.
TaiMaiShu 04-08-2006, 02:47 PM i missed it... what happened to martin?
David Puddy 04-08-2006, 02:53 PM i missed it... what happened to martin? He only played the 1st Period at home against the Penguins on Wednesday. It was later reported that he was ill.
I don't know his status for tonight.
NaChOs 04-08-2006, 03:22 PM i hope martin is back we need him.
DevilFisch 04-08-2006, 04:15 PM Tonight is a big night, I'd rather win the first half of the back-to-back games this weekend. Let's get that tiebreaker and let's get a win!
4-2 NJ, I'm calling it - I hope I'm right.
devsfan8 04-08-2006, 04:39 PM I am pumped. HUGE game tonight and to me is more of a test then the 3 game Ottawa-Philly-Buffalo test. Montreal is the hottest team in the league right now with a Vezina potential goalie. The Devils are playing stand on their head hockey and scoring, getting great goaltending and have a lot of confidence. Both two of the toughest teams to play down the stretch and two teams that will be feared in the playoffs.
Philly's win last night was huge for them as they now might have secured not being caught by NJ or Montreal. Maybe a loss to Toronto tonight could change that.
I feel a win tonight and the Devils will make a statement that they will settle for no less then 6th. Gionta will have a big game tonight.
GO DEVILS
les3couleurs 04-08-2006, 04:50 PM Is Martin OK? He didn't play after the first against Pitt.
Edit : Well that was answered fast. Should have read the thread a little better. Sorry. :innocent:
AfroThunder396 04-08-2006, 05:41 PM 4-2 Devils. Gionta figures out Huet early and gets two quick ones, plus an EN.
Feed Me A Stray Cat 04-08-2006, 05:43 PM Montreal wins 5-2.
TheDamned* 04-08-2006, 06:34 PM Brodeur is always top notch in Montreal... I hope we win like 1-0 :handclap:
Ronnie Bass 04-08-2006, 06:42 PM Montreal wins 5-2.
Me too, I was going to say 4-1, got a real bad feeling about tonight.
Jersey Fresh 04-08-2006, 06:46 PM New Jersey - 6

Elias continues his hot streak with 2 goals.
You read it here first. :)Theodore is in colorado.
Easton 04-08-2006, 06:58 PM Nice bit with Dennis Brodeur.
If the Devils lose this game in regulation and Tampa wins their game, they will not only slip down to seventh but to eighth since Tampa would have one extra win (41).
Jersey Fresh 04-08-2006, 07:18 PM Janssen setting up a nice physical presence early.
Jersey Fresh 04-08-2006, 07:19 PM Theodore is in colorado.
And? :dunno:
devils1983 04-08-2006, 07:26 PM Man, Matt is horrible as a play-by-play guy. He's no Mike Emrick, but at least he's trying. I still can't believe he refered to Canada as the "Dominion of Canada". I haven't heard that term used in over 30 years.
And? :dunno:
It takes 4 games to score 6 goals on Huet.
Jersey Fresh 04-08-2006, 07:28 PM It takes 4 games to score 6 goals on Huet.
Just between you and me, that was more wishful thinking than a prediction on my part. But while Huet has been great, I wouldn't say it's outside the realm of possibility that we score 6 on him.
Jersey Fresh 04-08-2006, 07:31 PM Excellent play by Colin White.
devils1983 04-08-2006, 07:33 PM Marty is on his game. The Habs are in for a long night.
devils1983 04-08-2006, 07:39 PM Le But....Gionta!!!
zarathustra1900 04-08-2006, 07:40 PM I think Montreal is in for a long night too.
Gionta throws a puck to the crowd and a kid throws it back on the ice?!
Whats up with that? Montreal fans............
You know Aebischer was heckled his first game with the HABS?

start catching up bro...i started double ******* once the 5 on 3 was called
devils1983 04-08-2006, 07:47 PM What happened?
Habs were really pressing during the 5 on 3. Marty made a huge save. Still 1-0 Devs after the 1st.
Jersey Fresh 04-08-2006, 07:47 PM Lucky to get out of that first period without being down. Gotta cut down on those penalties, they'll end up killing us in the end.
Oh and: We need offense!

I think it should be for every typo....I'd be passed out by now.
crashlanding 04-08-2006, 07:54 PM Did Klee get an extra penalty because Begin hurt his knee falling from the high stick?
I have to say with guys like Ryder and Ribiero on the team it's justice that somebody injures themselves embellishing a penalty.
Seriously though, what were those calls?
Brooklyndevil 04-08-2006, 07:57 PM Marty is holding the fort, but we have to stop taken penalties. Keep it going boys.
Brooklyndevil 04-08-2006, 08:00 PM Did Klee get an extra penalty because Begin hurt his knee falling from the high stick?

They say the Canadiens always get the calls at the Bell Center.
Captain Lou 04-08-2006, 08:01 PM I don't think we really played all that well, except for the Great Brodeur of course. He absolutely robbed Koivu on that PP. Plus it helped that Koivu took an extremely lazy shot. The penalties will even up here, and I think if we can get another one (goal, not penalty) we should be OK, up 2-0.

There was a hook five seconds before Begin hurt his knee, the high stick he also took resulted in the second penalty.
Fighter of Foo 04-08-2006, 08:06 PM There was a hook five seconds before Begin hurt his knee, the high stick he also took resulted in the second penalty.
I saw him fall back on his knees, and I felt it...that just hurt to watch, sorta like watching the foul ball go off Terrance Long's knee and watching his leg break back in the ALDS a few years ago
devils1983 04-08-2006, 08:13 PM D@mn that was close. Keep the pressure Devs.
devils1983 04-08-2006, 08:19 PM Le But....Gomez!!!

Devilsfanatic 04-08-2006, 08:27 PM It takes 4 games to score 6 goals on Huet.
Are you freakin' kidding? Who the hell cares how he has been, every day is a new day, remember Patrick Roy was scored against 11 times in a fateful night in 96, and 7 in game 7 in 2002. Marty Brodeur has been scored on 6 times in 5 or 6 games this year, is Huet better than both of those two? Any game, anything can happen, you need to get off of Huet

I know what you are getting at here, but I think Roy only gave up 9 goals (http://www.tsn.ca/classic/news_story.asp?ID=145407&hubName=) in that last game as Hab. Don't want any Habs fans coming on here all bent outta shape on that one. LOL

i think i need a beer in each hand, that hard hat w/ the 2 beer cups on the side w/ that straw thing, and a pint glass in front of me
devils1983 04-08-2006, 08:36 PM 2-0 Devs after 2 periods. Should be a great 3rd period coming up.
Brooklyndevil 04-08-2006, 08:39 PM That was close. Good thing the period ended. We have to go at them early in the third, Huet or whatever is name is starting to give up rebounds. Can't sit back. And what about the Mexican Missile....Unbelieveable.

I'm sorry, I can never bring myself to cheer for the Laughs. I'm actually hoping they miss the playoffs.
Easton 04-08-2006, 08:50 PM Luke is having a huge game. I'm glad Lou got him as we needed one of those garbage-clearing defensemen. I'm sort of surprised the Devils are leading this game. They usually don't do well in places where the crowds are huge (Philly, Canadian cities).
Scotty Gomez's nickname is the Mexican Missile!

Marty always seems to bring his game when he plays in Montreal.
Brooklyndevil 04-08-2006, 08:54 PM And on the Montreal forum the boring and clutch and grab posts are starting to pop up. Whenever the Devil are leading or win it always comes up. :shakehead

Agreed. It also works better this way since 99% of my friends are Leaf fans. ;)
Whitesnake 04-08-2006, 08:55 PM Frenchie from Montreal here,
Just wanted to say that I hate playing your team, and that's a compliment... ;)
Good luck to the team that will be facing yours 'cause they'll seriously need it. The Devs are just playing playoffs hockey today, and there's nothing we can do about it.
Good Luck to you in the Playoffs.....
P.S By the way, sorry but even though you wish the Flyers to lose tonight, I just can't cheer for the Leafs as well for you, against my nature.... ;)

Well, I just replied to a guy on your board (2112) to his comments about the "trapping Devils". I thought the "NEW NHL" was to eliminate that style of play.
Fighter of Foo 04-08-2006, 09:02 PM I'm still searching for that clutching and grabbing in this game, and I don't think I'll find it...hmm...

The Habs board on this site, they are whining like crazy about it. I told them that they have to find a better excuse than saying the Devs are trapping. It's typical actually, if their team is losing they try to find any excuse to explain why they are losig instead of pointing the blame on the acutal team.
devils1983 04-08-2006, 09:09 PM Le But. Gomez!!!

It's typical actually, if their team is losing they try to find any excuse to explain why they are losig instead of pointing the blame on the acutal team.
Maybe but the other fans teams sometimes whine about us being divers, or having the refs on our side and so on....Everybody whines, I don't see a board better than an other....
Captain Lou 04-08-2006, 09:17 PM I'm sorry, I can never bring myself to cheer for the Laughs. I'm actually hoping they miss the playoffs.
The Standings makes strange bedfellows.
DevilsFan38 04-08-2006, 09:18 PM Hmm, the Habs goal just disappeared on nhl.com's scoring summary. That's bizarre.
Edit: they fixed it. Looks like they were changing the goal scorer and accidentally deleted the goal.
devils1983 04-08-2006, 09:18 PM Maybe but the other fans teams sometimes whine about us being divers, or having the refs on our side and so on....Everybody whines, I don't see a board better than an other....
As by "other fans" I know you are talking about Laughs fans. I've watched alot of Habs games this year and from a Devs fan, I don't see your team take alot of "dives" or "have the refs on your side". I have a very good friend that's a Habs fan (Westcoasthabsfan) and I've told him many times that the Habs are looking very strong for the future. A very fast and exciting team in the years to come. Your team has had bad luck in recent years, but the future looks bright.
goin2hell 04-08-2006, 09:19 PM what happened to Gomers tooth?
borrachon 04-08-2006, 09:20 PM Someone should tell the 3rd/4th liners not to try to score with 4 minutes left when we have the lead. Take it into the corner and kill time.
Fighter of Foo 04-08-2006, 09:21 PM what happened to Gomers tooth?
It got chipped the other day...he stayed on the ice for a while while he was bleeding out of the mouth, I can't remember if it was a puck or a stick
Fighter of Foo 04-08-2006, 09:27 PM ugh....
ugh...
can we hold it for 12.8 seconds?....
devils1983 04-08-2006, 09:27 PM Wow. 3-2 now. This Habs team doesn't quit.
borrachon 04-08-2006, 09:27 PM Ugh. Lukowich gets a hooking penalty 1 second after being hooked himself and the ****ing Habs score....
Fighter of Foo 04-08-2006, 09:29 PM Ugh. Lukowich gets a hooking penalty 1 second after being hooked himself and the ****ing Habs score....
and now another penalty.... the refs are giving it to the habs ;)
Fighter of Foo 04-08-2006, 09:30 PM what a freaking hockey game...
on that note...i think i need another beer after that last 30 seconds
devils1983 04-08-2006, 09:30 PM GAME OVER!!!! 3-2 Devils.
borrachon 04-08-2006, 09:31 PM Jeez Marty is so lucky to play behind such an impenetrable defence. :shakehead
devildan 04-08-2006, 09:32 PM What a game by Gomahhhhh. The Mexican Missle gets his 30th and the Devils get 2 very important points.
P.S Would anyone else rather play the Rangers (as a 6th seed) then the Sabers (as a 5th seed) in the playoffs, or is it just me?
DevilsFan38 04-08-2006, 09:33 PM HUGE win tonight by the Devils. This gives us the tiebreaker with the Habs if we finish with the same number of wins (and points). They need to work on not letting teams back in, I was getting nervous there at the end.
Brooklyndevil 04-08-2006, 09:34 PM Very impressive win by the Devils. Excellent team effort. Very proud of the way they played. And Marty and the Mexican Missile are the player of the game for the Devils. I'm already pumped for tomorrow nights game. Good job boys.
David Puddy 04-08-2006, 09:34 PM Ugh. Lukowich gets a hooking penalty 1 second after being hooked himself and the ****ing Habs score....No kidding Vinnie. That was total BS. Koivu used his stick to impede Lukowich from getting to the puck. If the refs let that go, which I understand with less than a minute to play, they should let Lukowich's hook go.
Nevertheless, what a great victory tonight. That gives the Devils second tie-breaker versus Montreal. It also, I am pretty certain, gives the Devils the second 3-way tie-breaker with the Devils, Canadiens and Lightning.
devils1983 04-08-2006, 09:35 PM The Habs board is still whining about the "trap". If the "trap" was so effective, wouldn't the Devils be 82-0-0. They just try to find any excuse to why they lose. I hate when people blame the "trap".
David Puddy 04-08-2006, 09:37 PM Very impressive win by the Devils. Excellent team effort. Very proud of the way they played. And Marty and the Mexican Missile are the player of the game for the Devils. I'm already pumped for tomorrow nights game. Good job boys. :clap:Gomez executed the play that the legendary Hobey Baker made famous, a full-ice rush after building speed.
Boy I hope Lou can lock Gomez, Gionta and Elias into longterm contracts.

We did trap from the drop of the puck in the third ... as every team does when they have a lead late in a game. I really dont see what all the hub-bub is about.
devils1983 04-08-2006, 09:38 PM Habs fans are just upset really because we now are 3-0 in the season series against them. The Devils have out scored them 13-9 in those games.
Tao Jones 04-08-2006, 09:39 PM Wonder where Lemaire learned the "trap"? ;) :sarcasm:
Devilsfanatic 04-08-2006, 09:40 PM wow, okay, still waiting on the call where Koivu hooks Lukowich.....is it coming?
devils1983 04-08-2006, 09:42 PM wow, okay, still waiting on the call where Koivu hooks Lukowich.....is it coming?
It might.....keep waiting.....we still have another game against them.
NewGuy 04-08-2006, 09:43 PM We did trap from the drop of the puck in the third ... as every team does when they have a lead late in a game. I really dont see what all the hub-bub is about.
Exactly. The Devils play an effective trap once they get a lead. They are an extremely disciplined team where pretty much every player buys into the system. It's nothing to be ashamed of. What's wrong with shutting down another team once you have the lead?
Also, blaming the trap should be interpreted as a credit to the Devils. Essentially the Habs lost because the Devils played a better game.
Easton 04-08-2006, 09:48 PM Marty put on a show for hometown tonight. I really liked the way Luke played tonight, he really cleaned out the traffic.
Once I saw Gomez strip the puck away from the Habs defensemen I knew he was gonna score. It's his laid back personality that enables him not to panic when the opportunity arrives. I was hoping he'd pick up another goal so that he and Elias would combine for back-to-back hattricks.
We're ahead of Montreal now but we can't look at tomorrow's game as any less or else we're fighting for a spot again.
goin2hell 04-08-2006, 09:48 PM great game Devs! I had the pleasure of watching it in French LOL. Marty needs to bring that ***** into the playoffs!
David Puddy 04-08-2006, 09:49 PM Man, Matt is horrible as a play-by-play guy. He's no Mike Emrick, but at least he's trying. I still can't believe he refered to Canada as the "Dominion of Canada". I haven't heard that term used in over 30 years.Didn't the Governor General just address the Canadian Parliament this week?
I thought Loughlin did a good job, but calling play-by-play in a hockey game is tough. Things happen very quickly. Getting the start for Doc is like a goalie getting a start in place of Brodeur
That interview with Mr. Brodeur was great before the game. Chico Resch, a collector of hockey equipment and sweaters, offered Denis $15,000 for it half-jokingly.
crashlanding 04-08-2006, 09:51 PM Nice move by Gomez on the breakaway, I don't think Gio and Marty will be poking fun at him for that one.
DevilFisch 04-08-2006, 09:52 PM The Devils played very well tonight. It was an important game, and they played like it was with the proper result - winning. Gionta, Gomez, and Brodeur were all particularly excellent; key players in the Devils' victory.
Unfortunately, NJ can't rest yet, the Rangers are coming tomorrow.
Another chance to stretch the streak. GO DEVILS!

The term " Dominion" hasn't been used in years. As far as I know, Canada hasn't been know as a "Dominion" since WWII. If I'm wrong somone correct me with a link to prove it.
In regards to the game, Matt didn't do too bad of a job. I guess we get spoiled with Doc calling the games.
Shabutie 04-08-2006, 09:58 PM Good game, Amazing night for Marty. Too bad for the mistake by Higgins/Streit and that Huet wasn't all too solid on that 1 on 1.
Easton 04-08-2006, 10:01 PM Magic number down to seven now?
Gommallionta 04-08-2006, 10:07 PM Habs fans are just upset really because we now are 3-0 in the season series against them. The Devils have out scored them 13-9 in those games.
Actually, that's not it. We're just upset with the fact that you guys have taken the lead with the same amount of games played. It's also tough to see a winning streak as long as that one end with the likes of a hot goalie such as Brodeur.
Aside from that Higgins/Streit mistake, it was a pretty good game.
crashlanding 04-08-2006, 10:08 PM Magic number down to seven now?
It's down to three actually.
Un HabitHuet* 04-08-2006, 10:15 PM You were jammy cnuts today, I thought MTL did enough to at least get a point.
Fair play to Brodeur he played a great game as he usually does against Montreal.

we were who in the what now?
Unthinkable 04-08-2006, 11:39 PM That was hands down the best all-around game I've seen from Gomez this season. What a talented player he is. When he skates with that kind of confidence shift after shift, this team could make some genuine noise in the postseason. Terrific game by the Devils.
TheDamned* 04-08-2006, 11:45 PM Good game guys, as usual, Brodeur plays awesome in his hometown. You guys have a non-flashy effective team, good work.
TaiMaiShu 04-09-2006, 12:28 AM so i guess when gomez skated through the whole team wasnt "flashy" enough
TaiMaiShu 04-09-2006, 12:39 AM the only negative i saw was the great fans montreal has... everytime they do sumthing in the game that was even a positive the crowd was loud anch cheery.
Blackjack 04-09-2006, 01:22 AM we were who in the what now?
One thing I love about playing Canadian teams...
Their Canadian fans crash our boards and say very... Canadian... things. :biglaugh:
Guttersnipe 04-09-2006, 02:52 AM Just watched the game on the DVR and I loved Resch's riffing: "Brodeur's stick has been a magic wand tonight... a sword of fire". Hey Chico, don't bogart that bong. :propeller
Brooklyndevil 04-09-2006, 09:12 AM Almost forgot. Congrats to Gomer on number #30. :handclap:

Im Canadian, and I didn't know what the heck he was talking about.
x-bob 04-09-2006, 12:22 PM Damn I hate playing the Devils!!!!!!!!!!! ;)
You guys are so goo din you zone it gets on my nerves. lol Sme Habs fans say it's the treap but I think it's just the forwards backing up the defence. Good game guys, I was hoping for a goal in the last 12 seconds to bring it to OT. That would have been sweet.
