Easton 04-05-2006, 08:36 AM Going for the five-game win streak. The first goal is key as it has been for the first three games of our streak, all of which were scored by Madden.

As you posted, we need to score first against this team then concentrate on playing a patient game and create turnovers in the neutral zone against Pittsburgh since they like to open it up. Important 2 points with the show-down looming with Montreal on Saturday and the Rangers on Sunday.
Hendler2 04-05-2006, 11:28 AM Madden has been on fire as of late. I wonder if Kozilla will play.
NaChOs 04-05-2006, 01:33 PM Can we play a full 60 minutes vs this team for once? i usually dont throw out predictions i think they are a jinx but ima try it today im feeling a Marty shutout he 's due!
4-0 Elias/Gionta/Langebrunner/Martin
NJDevils#4 04-05-2006, 02:07 PM Realistically we wont make it out of the 1st round without being #5 or #6 seeded. (Even then I dont like our chances) However, Im keeping the faith, but we need to finish strong.
I think we get things right tonight, 4-1 Devils. Langs, Rafalski, Gomez, Weimer.

whats with everyone saying we wont get passed the first round? the way this team has been playing in its last few games i can see us getting past the first round at ease!
DevilFisch 04-05-2006, 04:41 PM The Devils have had 2 days of rest and are playing this one at home. They're re-energized, re-surgent, and clearly re-ady for the playoffs (I think they are in that mode as it is). It's time to make this five in a row.
I predict a 4-1 NJ win. This assumes, of course, the Devils play all 60 minutes.
Feed Me A Stray Cat 04-05-2006, 05:05 PM Eh, I am wary of this game. For some reason sensing a letdown. Hopefully not!
Jared Ramsden 04-05-2006, 05:43 PM I'm liking a 3-1 score tonight for the Devils....
phillypensfan 04-05-2006, 06:25 PM Hey guys, hope you don;t mind me posting. Pens have also had 2 days off to rest, and we seem to play you guys well,as long as we don't blow it anyways. Should be another good game here tonight in your barn, and good luck in the game as well as your playoff run.
devsfan8 04-05-2006, 06:54 PM Should be a good tilt tonight. Pittsburgh want to continue to be spoilers and have played solid over the last few weeks. They do not go down easy and lose a lot of close games. I just hope Crosby does not erups again like he did the last time.
Devils should win if they play their game. But I give them more of a chance to lose this game then anybody we played this last week despite the big come back in the first half of this home and home.
GentlemanOfLeisure 04-05-2006, 07:32 PM anyone else not able to see this game on comcast????
Tao Jones 04-05-2006, 07:35 PM Albelin, Hale, and Kozlov scratched.
ratsgirl 04-05-2006, 07:39 PM so much for getting the first goal, i guess.
rwhite 04-05-2006, 08:11 PM Pretty quiet tonight. Elias gets his 11th and 12th as the Devils take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
EDIT: Just as I open my mouth, the Pens tie it.
phillypensfan 04-05-2006, 08:12 PM Seems like it's gonna be a back and forth type game, makes things interesting for sure.

I think if pittsburgh gets the lead they will keep it. You guys put some type of curse on us.
Tao Jones 04-05-2006, 08:18 PM first and last minute goals seem to be a theme this season
a period lasts 20 guys
2 more to go
Easton 04-05-2006, 08:25 PM I don't care that we're tied up and not losing after the first and I don't care about Elias's two goals, because that period was pathetic. Maybe some good rushes late in the period but that quick first goal by the Pens drove me nuts. Martin ****ed up and let Crosby jet past him while just watching the play develop. The place is ****ing empty.
rwhite 04-05-2006, 08:39 PM I'm not actually watching the game, just updating from NHL.com.
One post says things aren't going great? What's wrong, defense, offense, work ehtic, everything?
Colin Whites Eye 04-05-2006, 08:41 PM gomez scores! what a shottttt

Is it just me or does Fleury always seem really shakey?
Colin Whites Eye 04-05-2006, 08:52 PM hat trick patty! woooo lets pour it on boys

Fleury has his times unfortunately. Doesn't help matters that our D is leaving him hang out to dry tonight. Congrats on the 2 pts tonight guys.
rwhite 04-05-2006, 08:54 PM Game's not over yet.
phillypensfan 04-05-2006, 08:57 PM Game's not over yet.

Looks like the kid has a real lack of confidence.
phillypensfan 04-05-2006, 08:59 PM Looks like the kid has a real lack of confidence.
Not that I or any other Pens fan can blame him there...he needs a better defense in front of him and part of his problem was going between us and the Baby Pens in the beginning of the season. Next season I'm sure he'll be better...he had a run of a few games earlier on where he was stopping just about everything. Should get a good dose of confidence with the Baby Pens for their playoff run, hopefully it'll carry over into next season for him.
Easton 04-05-2006, 09:09 PM This is not a great game even with our offense showing up. All three goals were softies and maybe Marty was screened on a couple of them but we're not gonna pull away with a win easily. The refs are ****ing up and it especially pissed me off that Gomez got his tooth chipped and no penalty was called, and I don't care about this whole make-up call. If a penalty is committed, call it. The ref made the mistake of missing it so why should the players pay for it?
The only thing I was really happy about was Elias not only getting a hat trick, but finally ripping win off his own stick and not through a deflection.
thefiestygoat 04-05-2006, 09:09 PM Good 2nd period for the Devils. Elias and Gomez are beast. I hope Martin is not hurt too bad and they are being precautoniary with him. Anyone have a feeling that with a couple of minutes left that there will be a fight?
Easton 04-05-2006, 09:15 PM Eric Cairns is huge. I just looked him up and he's listed as 6'6" and 241 lbs. I don't think Lou will let go Janssen's leash. All fights usually happen early in the game or when the team is in need of a lift.
Colin Whites Eye 04-05-2006, 09:29 PM Rafalski scores! thats 6, 3rd on the PP
Elias gets his 5th point
lucscaps 04-05-2006, 09:30 PM FIve points for Elias, lets get another one
it would be somethign for him to get 3g and 3a's.
Whats the devils record for points? 8 by sundstrom?

phillypensfan 04-05-2006, 09:53 PM Good game tonight guys, you deserved the 2 points in this one.
Colin Whites Eye 04-05-2006, 09:54 PM good win
D was suspect, but whatever. we win, take the points and move on.
congrats on win #40 boys! 4 points back of philly. we have played one more game than them, but if we can take care of them both times theres a good chance we overtake them

yep youre right. i checked the devils website but i only looked at regular season games :yo:
Brooklyndevil 04-05-2006, 10:04 PM Strange game tonight, but great to see Patrick look like Patrick again. And where the heck did Gomer find that shot from, awesome....Lou please resign Gomez A.S.A.P.
Is it now a new rule not call a penalty on a player who knocks out the teeth of another player? :sarcasm: Can't wait for Montreal.
p.s. ND Vs. BC tomorrow - ESPN2 @3PM Eastern
DevilFisch 04-05-2006, 10:39 PM I missed this game due to class, but Patrik Elias is the hotness. Not keen on giving up 4 goals to P-burgh, but winning the game and scoring is ALWAYS appreciated.
Bring on the weekend to stretch the streak to 7!
crosby_87 04-05-2006, 10:40 PM Could someone tell me please how Parise played? I wasn't able to catch the game but am very interested in tracking his development.
David Puddy 04-05-2006, 10:40 PM As I watched the Devils game tonight, it reminded me of Game 5 of the 2003 Stanley Cup Finals.
Devilsfanatic 04-05-2006, 11:02 PM As I watched the Devils game tonight, it reminded me of Game 5 of the 2003 Stanley Cup Finals.
Definitely, but, but....the d only allowed 3 goals against, not 4. The power of Stevens!
crosby_87 04-05-2006, 11:06 PM Be sure you all catch ESPN 2 tomorrow at 3PM Eastern Time. Zajac will be on display as the Fighting Sioux take on Boston College. Travis is #15 for the Sioux and will be centering Blues prospect TJ Oshie and Slovakian undrafted sophomore Rastislav Spirko. You can also catch Zach Parise's OLDER(yes older) brother Jordan on display in the nets. I have a somewhat good source who informed me that Jordan will be gone after this season and has already been contacted by more then 2 or 3 teams(something like 4 or 5). Should be exciting hockey to watch.
Drewr15 04-05-2006, 11:06 PM Patrik Sundstrom scored 8 points in the playoffs and still shares an NHL record

That was the first playoff game I ever went to. Sundstrom sets the record, 3 guys from each time get ejected during brawls, even Stevens and Dano got in a tussle...It was great stuff.
I just got back from tonight's game and noticed Martin only played one shift in the 2nd period and then he was not on the bench the rest of the game. Any word on what happend to him and how serious it is?

Easton 04-05-2006, 11:08 PM God, we have some tough games comin' up ahead of us. We start off this weekend with a back-to-back in Montreal than back home.

the announcers not sure if it was the radio or tv said it was the flu.
Drewr15 04-06-2006, 12:38 AM the announcers not sure if it was the radio or tv said it was the flu.
gracias. glad its nothing that serious.
Niedermayer21 04-06-2006, 12:53 AM Was Doyle called up because Clemmensen had the flu? Did Paul Martin try to play with the flu and just was not well enough to continue? The last thing we need is for a virus to go thru the team at this time of year.
BTW, did you like the way Ken Klee played Jani Rita when Rita scored? I don't remember him being this bad with Washington. More games like this and he has to ride the bench in the playoffs. Did he ever hear of a "sweep check?" He is worse than a pylon. Bring back Richard Shmelik!!! ;)
Jamie1 04-06-2006, 01:13 AM I think Clemmenson had it first and it spread to Martin.

But thanks for pointing out the broadcast schedule.
I just got back from tonight's game and noticed Martin only played one shift in the 2nd period and then he was not on the bench the rest of the game. Any word on what happend to him and how serious it is?It is a bit of a relief that Martin was sick. He looked really out of place in the 1st Period. I hope he is recovered for Montreal on Saturday.

Did he ever hear of a "sweep check?" He is worse than a pylon. Bring back Richard Shmelik!!!It certainly didn't help that Brodeur was featuring self-serve softies. It's rare that Marty has a game like that. It is great that team won despite that.
Lukowich and Klee were both in the lineup, and Albelin and Hale were scratches.

I've felt he's been underrated for a long time but doesn't part of that come from the Devils organization itself.I believe in the 2003-2004 season the Devils were discussing publically about potentially trading him.How much are the devils paying him?
devsfan8 04-06-2006, 09:11 AM I've felt he's been underrated for a long time but doesn't part of that come from the Devils organization itself.I believe in the 2003-2004 season the Devils were discussing publically about potentially trading him.How much are the devils paying him?
The Devils would never discuss publically that there is a possibility they would trade a specific player. In fact the Devils would be the last team to do that. They try to stay as below the radar as possible and any rumor that ever involves the Devils usually does not happen.
I on the other hand as well as a hand full of other fans notioned the idea of trading Gomez earlier in the year. I never downgraded his talent but I felt he had the most value for a struggling team that is more about a team then an individual player.
Someone needs to shoot me. Gomez is out of his mind on the ice. He breaks down teams defenses, shoots the puck (will score 30 goals) is probably the best playmaker in hockey, has improved defenseively and is playing like a leader. I am glad he is still a Devil and he deserves every bit of the $5 million he will get per year when Lou resigns him.
Guttersnipe 04-06-2006, 10:06 AM Gomez told a story in a radio interview from I while back about how he and roommate (I think it was Pando) were watching TV and Sportcenter announced that Gomez had just been traded to the LA Kings. It was understandably a big shock to him, it sounds like he hears about the trade rumors but doesn't really know that much more about them then we do. I always wondered who the Kings were going to trade for Gomer.
NJDevs430 04-06-2006, 10:17 AM I believe in the 2003-2004 season the Devils were discussing publically about potentially trading him.How much are the devils paying him?
I think that was Mark Never-ever-Everson who discussed it (or was it some other hack?)
<)-:**
Drewr15 04-06-2006, 11:38 AM I think that was Mark Never-ever-Everson who discussed it (or was it some other hack?)

Everson discusses it weekly. Its all BS - the Devils have never publicly discussed anything - Lou never does. Anyone who thinks that is getting rumors by poor reporters mixed up with the Devils actually discussing something - BIG difference.

Include me too. But I do enjoy the taste of crow when Devil players I criticize prove me wrong. Lou needs to resign him right after this season. No fooling around until June 2007.
AfroThunder396 04-06-2006, 12:58 PM New Jersey has become the third team in NHL history to record 9 straight 40 win seasons.

zarathustra1900 04-06-2006, 02:39 PM These games against Montreal are HUGE..we are both playing with fire as of late and should be (IMO) the best games of the season...
Great game!!! I love the way the Devils are playing lately. This is a Stanley Cup contention team here...
As Patrik said in his interview after the game, it has been nice and a lot less stress scoring and palying as they have lately. Unlike the 1 or 2 point games where we typically/historically shut a team down with our defense.
Appears we are truly playing good all around hockey these days. Nice to hear.
Anyone have any thoughts on Kozlov? He truly must not jibe with the team...interesting...
Best regards.
