Q: Which team looks most poised to make a serious Stanley Cup run this year?
A: [Long pause] I don't know. Maybe the Anaheim Mighty Ducks might surprise some people.
Q: Seriously? You're messing with me, right?
A: No, I'm serious. I think the Ducks might pull a few surprises this year. Remember, goaltending can be huge in the playoffs.
:) :yo:
No wonder he wants a new contract ... a drug habit can be quite expensive.
Lupul* 03-26-2006, 04:24 PM I would not be surprised. They are so hot right now it could happen.
McDonald19 03-26-2006, 09:03 PM well we have the type of team who could frustrate a more skilled team in the playoffs such as Detroit or Dallas, because of our team defense, shutdown guys like Pahlsson and Rob Niedermayer and a goalie who is red hot when he's hot.
A long run is possible, but we have to make the playoffs first.
ILuvLA 03-26-2006, 09:10 PM The way Anaheim has been playing, you guys will defininitely make the playoffs. I really can't see the wheels falling off at this point, so to speak. How far any team goes in the post season is a crap shoot at this point. The meter starts over once the post season begins. Anything can happen.
Geese_Howard 03-26-2006, 09:14 PM ducks are my 2nd favorite team, this team can and will make a run, no one is expecting them.... good goalie, D, and some of the best young forwards in the league, only thing I question is a gritty leader, ie a roberts
Chistov23 03-27-2006, 12:57 AM hmmm seems to me the wagon is filling up....

That's a good point. This team is awful young and we don't have a Stumpy Thomas or Adam Oates on this team. However we do have Scott Niecermayer who may not exude grittiness but definitely can control a game and has three rings to back that up.
I don't, this team really, really reminds me of the team three years ago. Not in the way we're playing but the momentum we have. We had a very similar run and look how that turned out.
One glaring difference in this team than the last one is our PP is catching on fire right now. Last time our PP was puttering out and disappeared in the playoffs. If we still play like we are now and Jiggy stays hot, it could happen. Success for this team doesn't depend on that but oh it would be sweet.
chagopian 03-27-2006, 11:49 AM I don't think they'll match up to a stronger Red Wing club. Or Nashville for that matter.
Provided if they have great goaltending, I think they can put a mighty case against the Red Wings though.

That's what they said 3 years ago, look how that turned out.
In four games this year against the Preds we went 3-0-1, I think we match up fine. I recall us beating them up 6-3 the other night in fact. If we finish 5th or even 4th and have to play Nashville than I like our chances.

I know you're a Kings' fan, but I think you're right on the money. I don't think the "wheels will fall off", but the difference between 5th place and 9th or 10th place in the Western Conference is pretty slim.
I'm a Ducks fan and I love the way they've been playing of late. Still, three or four weeks ago, I thought it would be a struggle for them just to make the playoffs (i.e., finish 8th in the conference). While I'm fairly certain they will make the playoffs, I'm not sure where they'll finish. Aren't there three games left against the Stars? Who's to say the Stars won't nail us three times?
Also, I don't think we should get too complacent. As ILuvLA said, "The meter starts over once the post season begins. Anything can happen." It wouldn't take much for us to slip a bit and wind up facing the Wings in the First Round. After what we did to them in the 2003 playoffs, they'll be itching to even the score. I really don't want to play the Wings.

my thoughts exactly :biglaugh:
CanadianPantherFan 04-03-2006, 01:05 AM Will have trouble against Nash. and Cal.,maybe Wings(you beat them before though :) )
I agree with Louie.

ok... But the way the Ducks have been playing since the break; do you think that any team wants to play them in the playoffs? Dallas is the second best team in the west, and although we lost to them earlier in the season; we've beat them 2 out of 3 in the past 2 weeks. Honestly, I'd take us over Nashville in the playoffs any day.
lux_interior 04-03-2006, 01:29 AM The thread title is misleading. In the quote, he doesn't exactly say the Ducks are his favorites. He says they may surprise some people. That could mean they go to the CF of SCF.

Well, they asked who he thought will win the cup, and the only team that he mentioned was Anahiem, so...

I'd say 2003 was a serious Stanley Cup run.

The ducks matchup very well against Nashville. Calgary and Detroit scare me but for different reasons.

Yep, We have Niedermayer and Olympic Gold Pahlsson, Olympic Silver Selanne, Conn Smythe winner Jiggy, 2003 SC Finalist Rob and Andy Mac good back-up goalie. I Believe :sarcasm:

Burke could sign Dave Karpa as a veteran leader
