[Football] League draft!

I suggested this idea a few months ago, and I had some positive reactions.
What would you guys think if we were to do a league draft.
We'd have a pool of 8 participants (or teams), and we do a draft by league.
Each lague would have judges that would not take part in the draft of that said league.
For instance, for France, me and Beli (PSG if he finds the time) could be the judges, and the rest of you would have to draft the players of the french league.
For Italy, Helice would be the judge, the rest of us are participants.
For the the german league, Baks, Sanderson, TomAce could be the judges, etc...
For the EPL, Belgian Fan and The Rage (Juni?) could be the judges, etc...
After doing the 5 main leagues draft, we'll have an overall ranking since each team will have drafted (and have been ranked) in 4 leagues and judged in one.

So far :
German judges : Bakos, Karpaa
EPL judges : Juni, GOM
L1 judges : Belizarius, Evilo
Calcio judge : PK (need at least one more)
Liga : Belgian Fan, Les Habs
"6th league" (or dutch league) : Peter Bondra, O=S

Other possibilities :
German league : Sanderson, Strizzi?
EPL : PSG, The Rage?
Calcio : Helice, Bubbles?
Liga :
L1 : PSG?
"rest of the world league" : Frolov, Strizzi?
Keep 'em coming boys!

a lot of work but why not... how many teams, players... a lot of details to fix at first but why not. :)

I think we should limit ourselves to a starting 11. No sub.
11*7 (teams) = 77. 77 players out of each league is big enough.

First I'd need the number of posters interested :

So far :
German judges : Bakos
EPL judges : Juni
L1 judges : Belizarius, Evilo
Calcio judge : PK

EPL : Belgian Fan, PSG, The Rage?

L1 : PSG?

I'm up for it. Lots of work, but it should be fun.
Welcome!
Please add your prefered league judge choice. I'd guess Calcio?

The best would be to have at least two judges per league.
Maybe we could add a sixth league with our dutch friends?
I'm not sure I could build a team with the players I know in the ditch league though.
O=S, Frolov, any idea?

A possibility would be a "rest of the world" list which would include all the leagues beside the big 5. Portuguese, greek, dutch, russian, brasilian, etc...

Well you could always help judge the "6th league".
You're interested in taking part?

I wouldn't mind joining but I have very little time right now.

I'd gladly volunteer as a judge though, Belgium probably isn't required but I get to see a decent amount of EPL as well. I also watch La Liga, Eredivisie and Ligue 1 but not as regularly.

The way it's shaping up, we'll use teams anyway, so even if you're short on time, your teammate can help you save some.
I'll mark you down as EPL judge, and Liga would be great as well.
In fact if we stick to the rules, you can only be juge in one league, and we'd ask you to judge the Liga then, if Juni and Rage can judge EPL.

Strizzi would be a nice addition as well.

I don't see why not. The Dutch have one of the best generations breaking through right now. The Ere Divisie is slowly improving..

Well I don't see enough La Liga, most certainly not to be the sole judge for La Liga.

Besides, I'm still of the opinion that Pablo Aimar rules all ;)

Seriously, if Les Habs is willing to chip in (he sees a lot more) then it would be OK

It's not a knock on the quality of the dutch league but rather on its exposure.
I just don't think many non-dutch posters are very knowledgable about the Ere Divisie. Not enough to pick 77 players anyway.

Well, I'd like two judges per league, so yes you'd have to team up with Les Habs for la Liga in hopes that Rage and Juni team up for the EPL.

The Ere Divisie league could have 5 managers, or so. Not more.. It could work.

I don't have enough time to select a team, but I'll happily volunteer to be a judge. Since PK has already filled in the pro-Juve slot ( :biglaugh: ) I can do La Liga.

You don't seem to have understood the rules, maybe I didn't make myself clear enough.

I'll take an example.
I'm the judge for L1. So when it's L1 turn, every team (except mine and Belizarius) have to do a draft, and Beli and I will rank the teams. We'll cross our lists and determine a winner for that particular draft.
Let's say team BF won the 1st spot, team O=S was second, team Helice was third, etc...
Then we can move to another league, where Beli and I will participate in the draft and someone else will do the judge.
That way, all teams will participate in every draft except one. And at the end, we'll have a ranking made of 6 leagues (the big 5 plus the rest of the world league).
So you can't substract 3 teams to do Ere Divisie, otherwise we won't have the same totals.

Ah, now I get it. Well, honestly, I think that the Ere Divisie is more than possible. Granted the quality will be less, but in terms of quantity they don't let down. Wouldn't hurt trying..

Nice idea though, definitely in.

I'll bump this since we lack some regulars...
Helice, Les Habs, Gom, Strizzi, Rage, Frolov, etc...?

I'm just seeing this now. I didn't think it was a footie thread. I'd be up for it if everybody is still interested. I'd be happy to judge La Liga. I assume we can make our own formations when we do this?

les Habs
03-18-2006, 05:26 PM
OK, well I'll try and see if we can get more people. I'd say we only need about 8 or so as long as the leagues are covered properly. So here's my take on the idea. Keep in mind the names etc are just examples:

Beliz and Evilo will be Ligue 1 judges. So they both go into the EPL, Serie A and La Liga drafts. They will also go into a head to head Ligue 1 draft. This is a new idea i've added. Then everybody else could judge their teams. I thought that would make it interesting. Besides, I'd hate to play this little game and not get to do a La Liga draft myself.

So say Beliz, Evilo and Helice are the only guys participating in the EPL draft. Well we'll need to decide a draft order. Now the draft order would be based on the honor system, but they would all have to pick a number between 1 and 100. They would then email that number to a the designated EPL judge for the number selection (say the Rage for instance). Whoever is closest goes first and the other two go after based on how close they got. HOWEVER, there is another twist. The draft order goes like this:

Draft Pick Team
1 Team A
2 Team B
3 Team C
4 Team C
5 Team B
6 Team A
7 Team C
8 Team B
9 Team A

and it goes C,B,A for the rest of the draft. HOWEVER, there is another twist. The person who won the 1-100 draw picks which spot they want. Say Helice wins that draw. Helice believes there is enough talent in the EPL that he doesn't need the first pick and he'd rather have picks 3 and 4. So he takes that option. It now looks like this:

Draft Pick Team
1 Team A
2 Team B
3 Helice
4 Helice
5 Team B
6 Team A

Now let's say Evilo was the next closest in the 1-100 choice. He's dying to get Henry, so he takes the first pick. It now looks like this:

Draft Pick Team
1 Evilo
2 Team B
3 Helice
4 Helice
5 Team B
6 Evilo

That leaves only Beliz and now it looks like this:

Draft Pick Team
1 Evilo
2 Beliz
3 Helice
4 Helice
5 Beliz
6 Evilo

So the order is decided and the Helice, Beliz, Evilo order continues after pick 6, UNLESS they come to a trade. Yes, you can make trades until the final draft pick is chosen.

I think we should choose benches and formations too. We could have five man benches, but we could add a rule that a bench would have to have at least one striker, midfielder, keeper and defender plus one final player of your choice.

I'm in...still a bit uncertain as to how it all works (whether every person judges for one league and drafts for the other, or there are judges for each league and then a bunch of people drafting anyway), but I'm always up for expanding my knowledge of France, Spain, Holland, Italy, etc..which is needed

I'm not positive on the subs. I'd rather pick 11 guys.
And I'd aldo like to do a draft for the Bundesliga. Many players are not known well enough.

The draft will, as usual, be a snake draft.

So there are six teams in total? A pair of two for each league? I'm not sure if I'd be interested, but I'll keep tuned in to this thread in case you guys end up desperately needing another player.

I don't think five subs is too much to ask for, but I guess it's not really a big deal.

I think we should include the Bundesliga. I was watching it yesterday and can't wait to get my hands on a few of those players. :D

Snake draft? That a usual draft? I just came up with the one idea because it spices it up a bit, but it's still the typical draft after the second round.

This thing would take way too much time off my weak hands. I couldn’t find the necessary time needed to take part in the draft, but I could help as a judge if you guys are committed enough to make this ambitious project work and will complete it.

Yeah, Calcio is the League I would like to judge. I and helice could balance our respective pro- and anti-Juve [supposed] biases.Actually that’s not such a big deal considering Juventus’ most important player won’t be involved in the draft, since we won’t draft referees. :joker:
