Future of our top young forwards?

How long do you think Anaheim will be able to or will keep Perry, Lupol, Getzlaf and Ryan?

Will they play together for the next 5 years or will one or more be traded at some point?

What would you do?

I think that Anaheim could have one of the leagues best top 2 lines in the next 2-3 years if they stick with all of them.

Anaheim can easily be a powerhouse in the next year or so if Burke keeps doing what he's been doing. They've got a nice young tender in Bryzgalov (Giguere's future with the team is undecided), a defensive corps of Nieds, Beau, Vish, Smid, Rome, O'Brien, Mikkelson, and Salei if he's re-signed. Their forwards are most impressive though. With guys like Ryan, Getzlaf, McDonald, Perry, Selanne, R. Nieds, Penner, Lupul, etc., this club SHOULD be a dominant force for years to come.

this is why the ducks can't invest in alot of long term UFA deals. we have to be able to keep these guys together, I hope Burke maintains his long term vision, and the wild card in all this is Chistov.

btw 76 I think you are going a tad overboard..a dominant force? we've never experianced that and alot of things can happen(see jordan smith)

Remember how I said last year I thought the Ducks should draft Adam Perry, Corey Perry's brother? And remember how many people thought I was being rediculous, saying it would not be good to draft someone just cause it was there brother?

Well, I thought then what I think now...which is they would probably have good chemistry playing on the same line. Plus, Adam Perry was second in voting by the OHL for most improved player. And at 6' 195 pounds, he has decent size. Does anyone know if he will be available in the draft?

If the Ducks draft him, maybe in two or three years he might have a chance to play on Corey Perry and Getzlaf's line. Here are his current stats. Not bad.

If he makes it to the NHL it will be as a grinder. His stats are inflated from playing on a very good team in the OHL and playing as a 19 year old against mostly younger players. I wouldn't mind us drafting him with our 7th round pick though.

I definitely think it's reasonable to say that the Ducks could be "dominant" in the pretty near future. Burke has plenty of money to work with to build around our young guys and I trust that he will spend that money wisely. BTW, I know they happen, but I'm not betting on another Jordan Smith-type injury

You still need some skills to put up 27+ goals, a nobody couldn't do it. I think his name will get him drafted (unlike the Staals, four of them in the top ten in their draft I predict.) Would be nice if we get him to the NHL from a 7th. Maybe he won't be drafted and end up signing as a UFA, and we've not done to bad with them.

Don't pat yourself on the back just yet, MightyAdam. In 2-3 years A. Perry will be lucky to be playing pro hockey, he will probably go the university route.

You'd be surprised how many average hockey players could put up 30 goals in the OHL as a 19 yr old. To be a top 6 forward in the NHL you better score more than 27 goals as a 19 yr old in the OHL. Look at a guy like Corey Pecker who the Ducks signed after a 53 goal season in the OHL. He can barely hold down a spot in the AHL.

Nothing against Adam Perry, but he will need to find his niche and get lucky in order to even become a third liner in the NHL.

I didn't know goals are that easy to come by, I don't follow the junior leagues.

Actually, Corey Pecker is a classic example of how stats can lie. I saw Pecker play a half dozen times over his junior career. He's always been a smart player and perfectly well rounded for junior. It was pretty obvious though, his skating wasn't good enough to take him to the next level. He was a borderline skater at the junior level and I'm really surprised he was given a chance to play pro. He clearly didn't have an exceptional shot, stickhandling or hockey sense (eg. Luc Robitaille or Jason Allison) to overcome his skating limitations. Brad Boyes, who played against Pecker, is an average skater but has elite hockey sense.

I agree, Robitalle and Allison have terrible shots and hockey sense. Probably because they both played for the Kings.

I honestly think our core for young talent is going to push up latter of elite teams in a couple of years. If we are this good now, with Lupul, Getzlaf, Penner and Perry still improving plus Ryan not even here yet. That coupled with our young d-men in Vish, Smid, Beauchy, Kondratchev and Mikkleson we are looking good for the future.

Burke built a great team in Vancouver but the one thing that really kept them from being among the very best was goaltending and JS Giguere is way better than Cloutier especially when it really counts. As long as Burkey doesn't let Jiggy go, I think we will be something to watch in a couple of years.

IMO the future looks bright for Anaheim. I was crossing my fingers near the trade deadline hoping Burke wouldn't pull off any deals which involved the rookies - even though he said he wouldn't. I think ever since Getzlaf & Perry were recalled from Portland they have done a better job and Carlyle expects no less out of them just because they are rookies with the team.
