Ducksforcup 03-12-2006, 10:40 PM I am so proud of my Duckies!!! :) They have battled hard and played so well and they are getting rewarded with wins. :yo: The rookies are playing admirably, R. Nieds has finally come back...the whole team is playing awesome.
So, this is just a thread to thank the Ducks for their stellar play and to congratulate them on finally getting into the top 8. Also, to congratulate all of the Duck fans on never giving up on this team...even after the 8 game losing streak where things looked quite grim.
I am ready for some more great MD hockey!!!

Cmon Chock, let the boys have their fun. Its been awhile since the Ducks have anything to celebrate.

You dont think it is deserved? All year weve been on the outside looking in and when the Ducks finally break though you cant enjoy it? Jeeze. Everyone knows this isnt a garuntee, but everyone should also know this is the most important win of the season so far.
Randall Graves* 03-12-2006, 11:17 PM There is still a long way to go, the ducks are only tied with Edmonton. Also the canucks are only 2 points in front and the ducks also have 2 in hand on them. These guys just need to keep focusing on one game at a time. Hopefully they go into Detroit and steal a few points.

Meh. I don't count anything until it's done. I see threads on the main board about how we're "the hunted" now and I shake my head.
:shakehead
Like that. I'd like them to be chasing home ice, which I'm sure they are, rather than start looking over their shoulders now. We've been hot since December, and there's stil no room to take a breath.

True enough. Games in hand are nice, but you still gotta win 'em. And it also means we have fewer rest days than the other teams.
On the plus side, we'll be helped by teams we're chasing playing each other. Edmonton and Vancouver will be playing each other in back to back to back games soon, so if we do our part we'll gain ground on one team or the other.
zaray_656 03-13-2006, 12:21 AM Congratulations. As an Oiler fan I am absolutely disgusted by the way they are playing. Anaheim deserves to be ahead of them.

Its nice being in 8th and getting a little respect and mention on the other team boards but we have a HARD schedule and we have been in 8th a few hours, way to early to celebrate. The stretch drive is just beginning, a long way to go.

Just about everyone has a hard schedule outside a few games though.

Hey, I think that's a knock against me. Whatever. No one is saying the Ducks need to put on the brakes but there are teams chasing us now that the Ducks hold the 8th spot.
Chistov23 03-13-2006, 12:45 AM Just about everyone has a hard schedule outside a few games though.
Thats true, just goes to show how tough the West really is. We only have 7 home games left though and I believe that is the fewest of anyone else. Also Dallas, I hate them so much, they own us, their terribly boring and Modano is a women.

Wasn't a knock against anyone in particular, Jerky. I'm not taking names, here. No worries.
But four games against Dallas and one against Detroit worries me extremely. This team has hit it's stride now I think, but even if we're awesome its still going to go down to the wire.
Hockeyfan02 03-13-2006, 12:59 AM While I'm happy they are back in a playoff seed, I agree with Chock. This is no time to really jump for joy. Still a lot of work to be done in the next month.

OTOH, if we're going to have any hope of making more than a token playoff appearance where we get annihilated by a top team, we have to at least show some ability to take points against said top teams.
Spankatola Jamnuts 03-13-2006, 02:25 AM I agree, but I have no faith in that happening as of right now. I think the best we can do is a playoff cameo - get the kids some experience, show the UFAs we have a future worth investing in here, make a little cash for the Samuelis.
Osprey 03-13-2006, 02:49 AM I hate to be a wet blanket, but, technically, the Ducks are still in 9th, seeing as how the Oilers win the tiebreaker. The games in hand make it a mere technicality, but it's still the fact of the matter. Either way, the work isn't done for this team, especially, as has been pointed out, facing the Red Wings in the 1st round would not be pretty. The Ducks need to get as high as possible.

It's not as bad as Anaheim's, but at least it's not easy or even average. Which team gets the 8th spot may come down to that Ducks-Oilers matchup in the last week of the season.
Belanger25 03-13-2006, 03:39 AM It's going to be interesting. I'd like to see Anaheim make the playoffs as long as it doesn't interfere with the Kings. I imagine I'd go see the games considering some days I maybe on a short car ride to Anahiem.

Ducks have 15 of 19(Counting Edmonton) against Playoff teams where LA has 11 of 17 against Playoff teams and thats counting Edmonton and Anaheim. Remove Ana it's 9 of 17 Remove Edmonton it's 10 of 17. We are slightly easier then Anaheim's schedule of Hell.

That's misleading because teams like SJ and Minnesota are a pain in the ***
Painful Schedule for Anaheim. 7 Games in a row against either LA Vancouver or Dallas.
Vancouver's schedule is also killer ...
Dal, Nas, Clb, Det, Edm (x3), LA, Min (x2), Ana, LA, Cal, Ana, SJ (x2), Col
So pretty much after playing Columbus, the Canucks will have zero easy nights the rest of the way. And unlike the Ducks, they haven't been playing particularly good hockey for a while now.
Col, Edm, LA, Van, and Ana down the stretch, you gotta figure at least one of those teams will go in the tank and start losing ... usually at least one team ends up having a very ill-timed winless streak down the stretch.
For the Ducks and Canucks, their schedules could help cause a big slump. But sometimes teams that tank down the stretch do so in spite of what appears to be a favorable schedule. And it's not like Edm, LA, and Col have nothing but patsies left to play, either.
Belanger25 03-13-2006, 05:27 AM That's misleading because teams like SJ and Minnesota are a pain in the ***
It's not misleading it is the stright stats. Those teams are a pain in the *** but they are not playoff teams so they are not in the breakdown. I hate everytime LA will play San Jose but they are not as of right now a playoff team.
I have realized besides Nashville and Detroit no one has an easy schedule but Anaheim has to have one of the toughest schedules so will you guys stop trying to say that everyone else has a tough schedule as I've realized this
hockey nut 03-13-2006, 06:28 AM Anaheim has no significant injuries right now which helps their chances and with depth back on D they'll be ok if someone goes down for a bit. I was surprised that Burke brought Friesen back to Anaheim considering his first stint was awful but maybe he'll prove himself this time around. Detroit should be a good test on Wednesday.
go kim johnsson 514 03-13-2006, 07:42 AM As a Kings fan, I have to give the Ducks a hand. I wasn't sure the Ducks became a better team during the season with various trades, and certainly not after trading Carney and Ozolinsh -- I didn't think the trade deadline made the Ducks better, but the play of various role players kept you guys in it, and no one wins anymore unless role players play well. And after the game vs. Edmonton not too long before the Olympics, I thought that might be a turning point where the Ducks might fall apart, but alas, the Ducks are in 8th.
Just giving credit where credit is due

Sounds like '03.

It was either going to be an implosion, or a rallying point, depending on the character of the team and Carlyle's ability to steer the right course. I guess we found out the answer ... they've played some of their best games since that meltdown.

NOOOOOOOO....
(Runs and hides)... ;)
Chistov23 03-13-2006, 01:08 PM I think the best we can do is a playoff cameo
That could very easily be the case, however I think we could give Detroit a very good run, more so than Dallas and maybe Calgary (guessing they will be 2,3).
Snap Wilson 03-13-2006, 01:19 PM I'm not popping the champagne yet. According to Irish Blues' website (http://www.geocities.com/rmccleary97/rankings.htm), we have the second-toughest schedule remaining. But fun to watch them playing better.

I'm not sure how big the difference is though ... if all teams were playing equally well, would it mean a handicap of 2 points? 5 points? Just how big a difference is 2% in strength of schedule over 18 games really? And is Anaheim playing better than the other teams in the chase by enough to overcome that handicap?

Good questions. I don't really know the answers. I look ahead and see four games against the Stars and I'm not really optimistic. Like Booger said, we're playing great and we still don't have any breathing room. Can we keep it up?
lux_interior 03-13-2006, 03:09 PM I'd looove to see the Ducks play the Red Wings in the playoffs. Especially this years team.

So what if they are not "playoff teams" they are still hard to play against, so I would qualify them amongst the 'hard' teams to play.

MightyAdam 03-13-2006, 06:21 PM A true test will be our play against Dallas. The question is, can we beat them? So far, they have whipped us! Will the addition's of Friesen and O'donnell help our chances? We can only wait and see. Hopefully we can beat them cause if the Ducks want a chance of winning the cup, they should be able to beat ANYONE!
So what if they are not "playoff teams" they are still hard to play against, so I would qualify them amongst the 'hard' teams to play.
Besides which, at this point all of the teams who aren't from Detroit, Dallas, and maybe Nashville are not safely "playoff teams," yet, so counting them up is useless. You can't tell me that playing Vancouver would be any tougher than playing SJ right now, just because they're a "playoff team" while the Sharks aren't.
Heck, even Calgary and Colorado aren't out of the woods yet.

Yeah, I've watched St. Louis a couple times recently. They're playing much better.

Maybe a little off-topic. I just realized the Ducks have scored five goals three games in a row! Pretty nice! :yo:
