so what is our dmen lines now?

nieds-Bouch
Salei-Vish
Dipenta-O'Donnell?

Penner probably sits now in favor of Friesen...

top 4 is very solid. I feel vish getting top 4 minutes is an improvement over carney. I don't know why Ozolinsh was traded though.

Im just got the my computer thinking no deals were made, and well I guess I was wrong, I dont understand this deal at all. I knew carney was as good as gone, but oze ***? like you said what does nyr know about burke? this is the third deal were we get nothing from them for a 2nd line center a 1st or 2nd line winger and now a top defenceman. Why not just have replace carney with sean. i guess ozo slary was for friezen, didnt he hate being here?

not too bad considering Ozo just joined the team and did very well without him the whole year...actually as well as he has played, the ducks have only won one game since his return

plus, this O'Donnell guy is a hard hitter and now we have him to go along with Vish and Salei....not to mention DiPenta is pretty tough and sort of like a Keith Carney kind of guy. Only time will tell if this defense has chemistry or not

That would be the slowest third pairing...2 pylons together...scary

Vish stays on the third pairing with DiPenta...O'Donnell goes with Salei

Niedermayer-Beauchemin
Salei-O'Donnell
Vishnevski-DiPenta

Basically Burke wanted Ozolinsh gone...2.75 million next season for a guy who just got out of the substance abuse program...Burke wanted him out of here.

I just wish we could have gotten something better than a 3rd round pick for him.

one of the Rangers d-man prospects should have been included.

For the time Oz was in Anaheim how has he looked?

Rangers fans seem to think of him as very poor defensively and a guy who won't hit anything. One diminensional if you will.

What are your opinions?

Definite steal for the Rangers, he'll put up a good number of points for the Rangers.

See that's what I thought. I think some of our fans are over-reactors. If not annoying sometimes. (yes I said it I know ;))

He isn't as bad defensively as his reputation says he is. He hit's when needed but he will never be known for hitting.

If he is motivated I think he will help you guys.

Seems Rucchin and Sykora and Tim Murray were pushing for this move:

Another plus was that he was already well known to some Rangers and received an endorsement from all of them. "We have some players who played with him, roomed with him," said Sather, speaking of Steve Rucchin and Petr Sykora. "Everyone thinks he's a great guy, a great team guy. We have a fellow in our organization who worked in Anaheim when he signed there, so we have a lot of information on him." Sather was referring to amateur scout Tim Murray, who was Director of Player Personnel for Anaheim when they traded for Ozolinsh. "We looked at a lot of different combinations of people that were available," Sather went on to say, "but we've had such a good year up to this time, chemistry was so important to our team, [so] we got someone who had relationships with some of the players we already have on the team."

After the first 3 trades I was happy and then this came. It sucks for this season but having that 3 million in the off-season will be nice. Maybe we go after a guy like Redden now.

hey its not like we traded Samsonov for Reasoner, 2rd, and a propspect we already had.

WIth all this money I expect an ultra competive team next year.

Doubt it. Selanne could've had #8 if he really wanted to. He said he wants to keep #13 for a while anyways.

That's accurate, but he was fine after he came back. I don't know if it was him or what but right when he came back the defense got sloppy, although I don't think alot of it was him.

This is what I thought when the Ducks acquired him. It has some truth to it, but surprisingly little. He can actually be good defensively some if not most of the time, and can light it up offensively. He's one of the best outlet passers I have seen.

He can also log mega minutes. You're getting a solid player.

Thanks guys, you guys are awesome. Unlike most fans and that very well includes Rangers fans, often when a player is traded he all of a sudden becomes the worst player ever (I've suffered from that sickness too ;)). You guys seem to bew honest and don't trash the traded players unless you really feel that way (Sykora got nice responses too). It's sad that on the Rangers board if you're big and hit you're automatically good, if not you suck.

Ozo's salary was the main problem, not the player himself.

Had he been playing with smaller contract he wouldn't have been traded most likely.

Now it's time to bring up O'Brien and see what he can do.

he'll play well, he almost always plays well when he goes to a new team. The only reason I can think he was traded is for cap space.

bring Montoya with you.

Oh relax dude. Stop being such a damn drama queen. Hope you didn't break a nail beating your chest so hard.

Guys there are a number of NYR fans who question the virtues of this trade. Given Ozo's reputation of being weak defensively, not to mention his recent bout with substance abuse, on top of a 2.75 pricetag next year, it's understandable we're not all willing to prostrate ourselves in front of Sather for comandeering such a major player heist out of Anaheim. Of course only time will tell. Some of us would've stood pat with the 3rd rounder and called it a day. But again, only time will tell.
Unfortunately we have boardmates like MisterU. who are completely taken aback whenever something resembling critical thought is introduced into a conversation. Then we must endure his "playful" woe-is-me or snide trivialities because he lacks the capacity to move beyond the neutral gear his utopian-world thought processes has locked him into. He wants to hear nothing but the whooshing of pom-poms.
