The Phoenix Coyotes have traded veteran defenceman Sean O'Donnell to the Anaheim Ducks.
O'Donnell, 34, is a physical defensive defenceman who had eight points and a plus-3 rating in 57 games with the Coyotes this year.
O'Donnell, who earns $1.748-million this season, waived his no-trade clause to allow this deal to happen and he will make $1.634-million next season
Bob McKenzie on the Sean O'Donnell trade - There are certain players that Anaheim GM Brian Burke told would not be moved, such as Jean-Sebastien Giguere and Ruslan Salei. He didn't give Keith Carney the same assurance and it will be interesting to see if he is on the move. O'Donnell is a veteran defenceman with a no trade clause, but he waived it to go to the Ducks.
Interesting trade considering our lack of need for defensemen. I will miss half of the French connection though :(. This likely means that Carney will be traded. I don't want it to happen, but it seems inevitable now.
P.S. GL to Sean. His veteran leadership will help this team. :)
Giguere27 03-09-2006, 01:45 PM Nice addition and it's a good sign, that O'Donell has waived his no-trade-clause.He will help our young team and will be a solid 6th defender.
The player, who is traded to phoenix is Joel perreault.Sad taht he has to go because he really played good after his comeback!Good luck with the Yotes!
CHRDANHUTCH 03-09-2006, 02:12 PM Perrault joins SA, OK. :(
mathpero 03-09-2006, 02:42 PM Good news for Perrault, maybe is gonna play is first NHL games!!!!!!!!!
Kick Save 03-09-2006, 02:51 PM Since I launched into a tirade about a few players that I've had the displeasure to meet in the Friesen thread, I must say that one of the nicest guys ever to don a Ducks' uniform is Keith Carney. The guy is nothing but class.
We'll have to wait a couple of hours for all the trades to come in, but O'Donnell's acquisition makes little sense unless Burke trades Carney. If he goes, I'd like to see him go to the Wings. Give him a shot at the Cup. Also, I think the Wings might be more inclined to overpay than some of pseudo-contenders.
Ville Isopää 03-09-2006, 02:51 PM Solid deal by Burkie.. nice way to counter the Friesen deal.. I'd rather have had it go the other way.. O'Donell for 2nd and Friesen for Perrault..
Ducksforcup 03-09-2006, 08:16 PM Some comments that Sean made about comming to the Ducks. :)

"I think it's a good situation and I think they're going to make a push for the playoffs," O'Donnell said of the Ducks, whom the Coyotes play Saturday at Glendale Arena, and again Sunday in Anaheim.
"There was a deal here to be done, but it didn't get done and that's unfortunate and it's disappointing," O'Donnell said. "But life goes on and I've got a chance to win a Stanley Cup.
"I still feel I have more (to give) than what they're (Coyotes) asking of me here," O'Donnell said.
Sounds good to me!!! :handclap: :handclap: :handclap:
McDonald19 03-09-2006, 08:22 PM Good trade.
I heard he had to waive his no trade clause to okay the trade to Anaheim, so it's a good sign that he wants to be here.
Big defensmen who plays with a ton of heart and sticks up for his teammates.
I'm worried that he is a bit of a pylon in the new NHL though.
Perrault probably wasn't going to get a qualifying offer from Burke after this season so we basically got O'Donnell for nothing.

O'D is very good and a veteran leader for ANA, he did as much in Boston, I wonder if the Jordan Smith career ending injury played a role in acquiring Skinner for Portland ;)
sammyp 03-09-2006, 09:17 PM IMO, this is an OK deal. Perrault wasn't going to be in this organization for much longer anyways. That part isn't bad. But, O'Donnell cap hit for next year is kinda tough to swallow, considering he will most likely be the #7 guy, unless he's traded.

Although I havn't really watched him this year, he was one of the Phx leaders in +/-, and looking over his career always seems to be on the + side. Will be interesting to see how he plays.

Yeah, he was actually Phoenix's best d-man +/- wise.
lux_interior 03-10-2006, 01:52 AM He's big and physical. But I remember him taking a lot of penalties. We seem to do okay killing Roooslan's penalties, and we've got a good PK.
So bring him on!
Pepper 03-10-2006, 03:48 AM I remember OD throwin Aalto around like a ragdoll in a preseason game between Kings & Ducks several years ago (1999?).
Then again, OD usually gets his *** kicked against all enforcers so while he can fight, he's not a heavyweight by any mean.
