PEli* 10-25-2003, 10:06 AM Do the Mooseheads have their own 1st round pick this year? I was just wondering if it was involved in the CB trade. I only ask because it would be nice as a Mooseheads fan to see the team get all of their players back next year and then add a potential top 3 pick to their roster.
Thank you guys.

Yes, Halifax still has their 2004 1st. It came back from Cape Breton in the second part of the deal that sent Guenette, Bernier, Cyr and Picard to CB. As of this moment, it would be the first overall pick (though, after a modest two-game winning streak :) and a relatively easy upcoming schedule, that ranking could change.)
Whether they will still have it come June? All I can say is :dunno: Patenaude does love to trade his picks, and surely a #1 pick would command high value... and keep in mind something has to head to Cape Breton for Guenette, Bernier and Picard in June.

The stuff that heads back to CB for our guys is what we get from CB for Villeneauve
ie:
to HFX: 1st rd pick 2004 CB and 2nd rd pick 2004 CB
to CB: Villeneuve
then at the draft:
to HFX: Gunner, Picard and Bernier
to CB: 1st rd pick and 2nd rd pick 2004 CB

That's still confusing. Halifax gets CB's 1st and 2nd for Steeve and then at the draft they get FP, Alex and MA back for CB's 1st and 2nd? This means Halifax is keeping their #1?

Yes, that means they keep their 1st round pick. The 1st and 2nd rounders are CB's that they recieve from sending Villeneuve back to CB, but go back to CB for Guenette, Bernier and Picard.
I would be surprised to see Halifax keep their 1st rounder. It is almost guarenteed to be a top 3 pick and being a top contender next year a young prospect won't help a whole lot. Plus there has been some talk about Steve Dixon coming to Halifax as well. If that happens, which i for one believe it will, expect the Mooseheads top pick to go to CB.

Depends when the pick is.
Benjamin Breault (consensus #1) would be able to step in and play top 3 lines at 16. And contribute.

Dixon, eh? What about Cyr? Wouldn't he be involved in the deal at this year's draft along with Gunner, Bernier and Picard?
:dunno:
LaLaLaprise 11-05-2003, 08:54 AM Cyr would be 21

Woops! :p
I forgot about that.
What are the chances of Dixon actually coming?

I am hearing that Kenzie Sheppard would head to CB for Dixon.
Ryan MacLeod 11-07-2003, 08:14 AM This goes down as the most complicated trade in hockey history.. in the long run.. it works out great for both teams..

I think you have the meat and potatoes of the deal, but all the side stuff is just extra "optional" deals.
