3/5/06 Anaheim vs. Columbus

MightyAdam

How today and Tuesday turn out might dictate what the Ducks do as far as the trade deadline goes. And so, today is somewhat a big game.

The sharks lost yesterday making them officially 3 points behind the Ducks in the standings. Minnesota is 4 points behind Anaheim and the Ducks have 3 games still at hand on them. And so the only team the Ducks really need to be concerned about the rest of the way to the playoffs is the Sharks.

And, what did you all think of Perry's goal last game? Its about time we see a goal from him that wasn't from a rebound or a tip in! Hopefully this will give him the confidence to shoot more and to get more goals like that one. Heck, I've never even see Lupul take a shot like that. That goal was awesome! :yo:

You all ready for today? Its game time!!!

Good post and thread starter.

It is important for the Ducks to win the next 6-8 games because the final 15 games of the season are going to be brutal. If we are to catch the Kings or Oilers, we need these points.

It was a nice goal, never seen him shoot a puck like that in London, thats for sure. However he will score the majority of his goals in and around the crease so don't expect him to start coming down the wing teeing them up.

Selanne has flu like systems, seems the olympics are taking its toll on him. A game like this is where Perry/Getzlaf could really shine and lead us to a win.

There's no way Nash "planned" to almost bust his butt and then put the puck in the net. Unlucky with that and then the Selanne post. Why can't this team score in OT?!

Randall Graves*
03-05-2006, 07:03 PM
wow the officiating was pitiful for the ducks today, the ducks should have had a W but they stole a goal away and let alot of crap goal.

considering nothing was going right, i'll take the point, and Giguere is not the problem in shootouts...it's the inability of the shooters to score.

Randall Graves*
03-05-2006, 07:05 PM
by the way, it's pathetic when you outwork a team to have the officials put the whistle away. everything should be called the same way no matter the situation. you totally dominate a team for the last 2 periods but you only call the penalties against one team. A joke. and the call in OT wasn't even a penalty and it went in the ducks favor, guess they eventually felt bad about their day.

Cloned
03-05-2006, 07:06 PM
4 pts back of Edmonton now.

As an Oilers fan, this is going to sound hollow and selfish ;) , but I think we should collectively be aiming for LA. They've played more games than both the Oilers and Ducks and are only 1 point up on the Oilers (and 5 on the Ducks). The Oilers have a game in hand and you guys have 2 on them. With their injury situation, they would be the team I would look to fall out of the playoffs.

MightyAdam
03-05-2006, 07:08 PM
it seems like this team doesn't want to have success sometimes, which I know this ain't the case...all three players didn't score in the shootout for the Ducks. that just seemed so pathetic

well, at least the Ducks are still only 4 points behind the Oilers. I know that Edmonton play's the Stars Tuesday and if the Stars can finish the Oilers off, and if the Ducks can beat San Jose, then they will be only 2 points out of the last playoff spot come trade deadline day (with a game still at hand over the Oilers)

the way they are playing though, I don't know how well the Ducks would do even if they did make the playoffs...you can't start first periods off sluggish in the playoffs cause opponents will walk over them in the beginning of games come playoff time. And how many games would the Ducks expect to win playing that way? Do they think they would make it to the Stanley Cup finals playing that way?

This isn't why they lost, but the back spasms to Carney did hurt the team obviously. I think having him back in the line-up (hopefully) would improve the team's chances of having a better game next time.

All I've got to say is Ducks better beat the Ducks and Edmonton better lose to the Stars. Cause one of three things can happen to the Ducks on Tuesday.

1.) Ducks wins their game. Edmonton loses their game. Ducks would only be 2 points out of playoff spot. This would give Burke the confidence in his team to want to trade for a player that can help the team into the playoffs.

2. Ducks win their game. Edmonton win's their game/ gets a point out of their game. Burke would possibly still look at getting someone who can help the team.

3. Ducks lose their game. Edmonton win's their game. This would be the worst thing that could happen to the Ducks and I definitely don't see Burke wanting to trade for a player with the Ducks being 6 points out of a playoff spot. So, Tuesday is a huge day for the Ducks! Lets just hope they can wake up and score some goals!

I agree also...if we had gotten half of those points we missed out on during the shootouts then we would have the final playoff spot. So, its not that we ain't as good as the teams who are currently in the top 8 playoff sports, it that we stink in the shootouts. :shakehead

did you talk to feds at all?

MightyAdam
03-06-2006, 11:36 AM
at first 4 points behind the last playoff spot might look bad.

but the way I see it, San Jose is in the same spot behind us as we are behing the Oilers.

We are 4 points behind the Oilers with one game at hand, while San Jose is 4 points behind us with one game at hand

that means that San Jose is 8 points behind the Oilers for the last playoff spot...and heck even I wouldn't count San Jose out of the playoff race

so, while the game yesterday was discouraging, the Ducks can still make it in the playoffs if they can start putting more energy into their game from the start!

Can't wait for the game against San Jose! :handclap:

if you see Selanne, tell him we need him to recover from post-olympic depression right now! remind him that he can go back to the olympics in 4 years when he is 39. are any of you gonna be at the next game? I usually go to section 431 in intermissions...would be nice to meet some of you there at the next game :)

Glad to hear that you're enjoying your stay in Anaheim. Barring some catastrophe, I'll be at the game on Tuesday. Where do you go in § 431? How would I recognize you? (Ever since Martin Gerber was traded, I haven't seen a group of fans with Swiss Flags at the Ducks games.)

Just when you come in, there is a place where people with a wheelchair can sit. My hosts are there, so I go down to them during intermissions...

wow...have check what I will wear :) Brown Zipper and a white cotton jacket over it...usually, I wear a blue cap, Rip Curl. And I'm really skinny, so I should stick out of the other people, LOL
