Based on what we've seen, read and know what do you guys think the offensive upside is for the following forwards?
Dustin Penner
Ryan Getzlaf
Corey Perry
Curtis Glenncross
Bobby Ryan
Ryan Shannon
Joel Perrault
If you guys wanna toss some other guys in there go ahead, and I know some of these guys won't fulfill their potential, and guys like Perrault and Shannon may never get a shot but I'm just curious what you guys think.

I agree with most of them however I think you underestimate Bobby Ryan's downside...I agree at best he is a star player in this league...however at worst he is an AHL lifer...I think he'll be fine...but a guy like him is very boom or bust in my opinion...is he Rick Nash or Hugh Jessiman? That will be the question. I would not call Rob Niedermayer an average 2nd liner and that's what either Ryan or Penner could become...lots of tools with no toolbox...I hope not though.

I tried to give a fair opinion of what Ryan's downside could end up being. Obviously any prospect who hasn't played a game in the NHL could have their downside listed as AHLer.

There seems to be a much higher risk/reward factor among power forward type prospects than other types.

It depends if they have heart or not. Ryan clearly has the skills and there has never been a complaint about his attitude that I know of, so that's a good sign. He has a better chance of being good than becoming Brad Isbister.

While there certainly is the potential for Ryan to be a "bust", I doubt that that will be the case. The kid not only endured a pretty rough---and certainly atypical---childhood, but also went on to be a star player as in the Junior ranks. The Ducks scouting staff were super high on him and, although Burke relied on the scouts, he was more than impressed by Ryan when he interviewed the kid. FWIW, I think Ryan has the highest upside of the bunch.
I also think Penner has tremendous upside. He has risen from the ranks of obscurity to being an NHL player in---what?---three years or so. Considering how long it takes for Power Forwards to develop, I think he's definitely on the "fast track".
Looking at it from a slightly different perspective, I think Getzlaf has very little "downside" and quite a bit of "upside". He should be a mainstay of Ducks first- or second-line for years to come.
Personally, I'd love to see Shannon succeed. He may be the longest shot of the bunch, but if he were half the player (fellow BC Eagle) Brian Gionta has turned out to be, he'd earn a spot in the NHL. Obviously, he'd benefit greatly from having a big guy like Penner clear some space for him.

I'm obviously hopeful the Ducks were right on Bobby...I still get nervous that he's the Pat Falloon in between Crosby and Johnson like Falloon was the middle of the Lindros/Niedermayer sandwich back in 91. Obviously 2 very different players but Lindros and Crosby were ridiculously touted and Johnson/Niedermayer were the supposed franchise d-men...leaving the middle of both sandwiches..etc...I'm not sure what I'm talking about...I'm fairly drunk right now...mmmm sandwich

I understand what you're talking about, and theres a chance Ryan could turn to nothing. the ducks were very lucky to get a pick that high and I still think the ducks should have taken Johnson, but Ryan could be a playmaking version of Rick Nash...and his goal scoring ability ain't bad either. Of course he's got a long, long way to go.
One of the guys i'm really looking forward too is Glencross. I've seen him only a couple times but I like his tenacity and he has decent offensive upside..
