I wouldn't mind keeping him around for drafting and scouting, but as a GM, on the whole, he was terrible. I did like the fact he seemed more accessable than most GM's and, if only for the sake of PR, was willing to take questions from the public. But again, on the whole, not impressed. Av-merican 10-24-2003, 11:23 PM Well, while he definitely deserved to be fired, he had a point in wanting Sutter to play the kids more. Sutter is so infatuated with players like Scott Nichol that they're getting the nod over Radulov and Vorobiev. I'd like to see a new coach (sorry, I don't think Brian's the right coach for a team in rebuilding mode like this one) and a new GM that will bring in some character players via free agency to help the younger players along. Oh, and I wouldn't be too surprised if we saw Zhamnov moved at the deadline. johnson 10-25-2003, 05:34 PM Who would you like to see replace Smith? Craig Button might be an ideal candidate ;) :D JayzinSmith 10-25-2003, 06:25 PM Who would you like to see replace Smith? Craig Button might be an ideal candidate ;) :D No! No Craig Button, no Bob Pulford again, no Dean Lombardi, and no Brian Sutter as coach/GM. go kim johnsson 514 10-26-2003, 11:01 AM They'll probably pick up an assistant from somewhere. I'm sure one of the assistants in New Jersey is going to knock on someone's door. Perhaps they can start in Chicago, a team pretty much starting over at this point... Teemu 10-26-2003, 11:18 AM honestly, i wouldnt mind lombardi. he's almost as good as smith in drafting, he took the sharks far in the playoffs then made a sincere attempt to rebuild, and fired a sutter (and as a member of 'the family', he might have enough jurisdiction to do the same here). _Del_ 10-26-2003, 01:09 PM honestly, i wouldnt mind lombardi. he's almost as good as smith in drafting, he took the sharks far in the playoffs then made a sincere attempt to rebuild, and fired a sutter (and as a member of 'the family', he might have enough jurisdiction to do the same here). I wouldn't mind Lombardi either, and certainly wouldn't doubt it based on the family ties here. I never thought about the 'jurisdiction' issue, which was a good point... Along those same lines, who better to ask that Wirtz open up his purse strings on the RIGHT personell here..... | ||
