Go Kubina! Rooooooar! Art Vandelay 02-23-2006, 02:21 PM It's the last time for Czech oldies as well :sarcasm: Some of them yes but there are more czechs that are up and coming then swedes, Sweden will have some troubles in the coming years there are no one that can even remotly fill the void left by Sundin, Forsberg etc. Epsilon 02-23-2006, 02:23 PM I have to cheer to Sweden here, especially with Kronwall added to the roster. I hope we see Zetterberg, Holmstrom, Samuelsson, Lidstrom, and Kronwall on the ice together at least once. Corto 02-23-2006, 02:23 PM Speaking of Kubina, I feel sorry for him. He is BY FAR the best Czech defenseman, especially defensively. In the Slovak game, the rest were relatively okay, but in the round robin games, he was the lone ranger out there. The Czechs are gonna have to spend more time in the offensive zone, IMO. If it comes down to Lundqvist vs Hnilicka, I think there's only gonna be one winner. :dunno: Lecavilier_4 02-23-2006, 02:25 PM Speaking of Kubina, I feel sorry for him. I hope we see Zetterberg, Holmstrom, Samuelsson, Lidstrom, and Kronwall on the ice together at least once. There is a strong possibility that we will, Samuelsson played the latter part of the QF with Henrik & Tomas. Kronwall was paired with Lidström in todays practice, personally I not that fond of seeing those two together but I guess they don´t want to mess up the other two pairings this late in the tournament. Leo Naphta 02-23-2006, 02:47 PM My brains tell me that the Czechs will take this one. But I have a gut-feeling that the spell has lifted over Swedish hockey, and that we will beat the Czechs. Salming 02-23-2006, 03:10 PM I bet that Kronwall will throw a monster hit on his first shift of the game. Unfortunaly Russia and the Czech rep will play in the final with Russia being the winner. Caz 02-23-2006, 03:13 PM [left]Last chance for Swedens "oldies" to win a big tournament together and Lundqvists first, coincidence? It's kind of sad knowing that all the SF teams have stars who certainly won't play in the next olympics or World Cup. I hope whoever pulls trough, had to do a good day's (week's) work to do it. Hopefully we'll see great hockey for another four matches. In the end, There can be only one. Accord 02-23-2006, 03:24 PM What channel is this game on?? Czech Your Math 02-23-2006, 03:27 PM Looks about even to me. Sweden has more scoring punch than Czechs. However, Czechs will play very smart, defensive hockey, relying on passing and skill at the right times to generate chances. It was good to see Hejduk and Rucinsky get goals last game, as Czechs need to get some production besides Jagr's line. I don't think goaltending is a big edge for Sweden. Hinlicka has significant NHL and international experience. He's given up one goal in five periods vs. Canada and Slovakia. He may not win the game singlehandedly (like Hasek has in the past), but he shouldn't lose it singlehandedly (like Vokoun vs. Canada). Biggest edge for Sweden: They'll win most of faceoffs. Forsberg healthy now and they have a lot of offensive talent. Biggest question for Sweden: Will Lundqvist hold up under pressure of his biggest international test and Sweden's past disappointments in international play? Biggest edge for Czechs: They've been here before and play the style of hockey necessary to have a good chance in these big games where a 2 goal lead is practically insurmountable. They've enjoyed past success against Sweden. Biggest question for Czechs: Will Hinlicka continue to shine? Can they shut down Sweden's scoring depth and still generate enough scoring opportunities (especially on 2nd and 3rd lines). Hoping for a good, fair, clean game. Not a lot of penalties! It'll be a great matchup with the top-lines. Freudian 02-23-2006, 03:38 PM Like always when these teams meet, the first goal will be crucial. Sweden can probably handle a czech team chasing a tieing goal. Sweden can probably not handle a czech team sitting back on a lead. Sweden got past the qf's and got that monkey off their back so to speak. Can't help but think: Lundqvist>>Hnilicka And now Sweden has N.Kronwall in their lineup  . No offence but I think Kronwall is a better defenseman than Öhlund. What a performance by him in last years world's as well as in the AHL. Kronwall is the next Lidström. And while I'm at it, Bäckström might be the next Sundin, so imo Sweden's future looks mighty bright. Hedberg 02-23-2006, 05:55 PM Let's go Sweden! Chimp 02-23-2006, 07:01 PM Of course it will be a very close game. Both teams look kind of even on paper, although Sweden has a little bit weaker defensemen. However, on paper: Lundqvist > Hnilicka. My brain tells me Czech Republic will win, they are always very hard to beat when it matters, but my heart says Sweden of course. We will stand up to them. SwisshockeyAcademy 02-23-2006, 07:04 PM Their last match at the World Cup was a Czech romp but that was a year and a half ago as well as slightly different teams. I cannot believe that Hnilicka is in the Czech net. Who would have thought a Hasek injury and Vokoun unable to stop anything? I say Sweden gets a close one, perhaps a shootout. shawn_kemp* 02-23-2006, 07:31 PM However, on paper: Lundqvist > Hnilicka. I wouldn't bring up the paper too much. We all know how 1st on paper equals 7th on the ice. Schenn02 02-23-2006, 07:55 PM Sweden will win it in OT 4-3. Sundin with 1 goal and Alfredsson with 2 assists. Go Team Sweden! Waseda 02-23-2006, 08:08 PM And that World Cup match, we got the AAA tickets because it's not often you get to see the top Swedish players here. Sweden wins 3-2 after a tight match where the Czechs scores the opening goal(s?) ice berg slim 02-23-2006, 11:41 PM Is CBC showing this at 10:30 ET like nhl.com has written? mr gib 02-23-2006, 11:45 PM we have a lot of swedes here on the canucks - so i'm kinda torn and they'll have some explaining to do when they arrive back in town for - THROWING THAT GAME - i hope they get there heads handed to them - go jagr!!! Pantokrator 02-23-2006, 11:55 PM I am pulling for Sweden in this tourney, all because of Forsberg. I think the Czechs will win, because I fear Forsberg's health, plus the Czechs to me over the past few years are proven winners who seem to overcome anything thrown at them. NAI77 02-24-2006, 12:08 AM Forsberg's assists on Wednesday were sick, hopefully he can continue that form. If we meet then in the final and beat them, then we'll have played and beat every top nation in these games bar Slovakia who we coudn't meet. And that, is a fine way to win gold. Besides, my heart coudn't take another final loss to the Czechs. Seiza 02-24-2006, 04:03 AM I think this will be a tight low scoring game that ends up being decided on a penalty shootout. And any team could win that... I would love to see Sweden vs Finland in the final!! larsmark 02-24-2006, 04:15 AM And his name is Henrik Zetterberg. Zetterberg is good but will never be able to replace Forsberg just because of the lack of physical play. I guess that my biggest favorite player after Forsberg retires will be Ovechkin, he is already #2 on my list. He is so different from many other Russian players and can do everything! And hopefully Lundqvist will become a superstar aswell! I hope we can perform well and maybe for once it's us winning this game. The Czechs usually beat us in overtime or on shootout and it's happened many times lately. Hopefully Kronwall is in good shape and throws his body around tonite. As for now he's probably the best body checker on the team so it's gonna be nice to see him. Too bad that it was Öhlund that got injured and not Ronnie Sundin though. 3-1 Sweden and Forsberg all three assist :handclap: Team_Spirit 02-24-2006, 04:27 AM Sweden will win , it's all about the jersey :D Kluivert4Ever 02-24-2006, 04:53 AM People talk about the offensive talent of the Czech but the more I look at the Swedish lineup the more impressed I get with their offensive talents. Zetterberg Sedin Sedin Forsberg Sundin Alfredsson Not everyone has impressed here in the olympics so far but they are all proven point getters in the NHL, i feel the defensive corps are also pretty evenly matched, the Czechs might have a better defensive system though. The difference will probably be in goal as Lundqvist will win this for the Swedes. For a Rangers point of view Im hoping for a Czech win but today I think Henrik will steal it for the Swedes, and I guess that is not all to bad considering which club he plays for. ;) Kluivert4Ever 02-24-2006, 04:54 AM Maybe I'm slow, but I just saw this report (http://www.dn.se/DNet/road/Classic/article/0/jsp/faktaRender.jsp?fno=1&major=1&minor=524025) from a Swedish practice. J Jonsson has been very bleak by his own standards this time around. I have no objections about him being on the squad, he represents continuity. He's also a capable defensive player on the big ice + he can still kill penalties to save energy for our "top talent". Besides, JJ does not make or break the fortune of this team. He's NOT the got-to-go guy.
