The USA and canada don't send teams to the Olympics to compete.
They sent a exhibition show to promote a product called NHL.
Seriously business has killed sport for you.

There is his NHL > all attitude. There is this "This Guy doens't even play in the NHL" attitude. There is this "The Stanley Cup is more important anyway" attitude. There is this "only gold counts" attitude.

And then the whining. The rules suck, The ice is to big. The refs suck. Gretzky sucks.

Wayne Gretzky is a man of influence. If he were serious about this he'd see things clearly. He'd say "listen folks this is madness we can't fly across the pond and play 6 games in 8 days against the world's elite". He'd make things happen, arrive a full week before the tournament starts and he'd have such things as international friendly games to PREPARE for the biggest event there is in hockey.

The whole concept of a national team is non existant for your countries. You just field selection teams, allstar teams if you want. Where are the training camps? Where is the team building? Where is the team internal competition for slots? Where is the participation in other international tournaments?

You just trow a couple of guys who did well with their league teams on the ice and expect them to rock the world and play no look passes as if the where the freaking USSR who put their team in a barracks and drilled them 365/24/7 !

The guys that played there tried hard. That Russia game was still awesome.

But if you are serious about national team contests then god damn start to put your stupid NHL into perspective and get your priorities straight, as the rest of the world does.

Its a LEAGUE. League play <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< national team play. Damn it!

How could that possibly be how we feel? National team games on this level happen what, once ever 2 or 4 years? And in these games you lose ONE time and you're done. How can that ever approach the Stanley Cup? To win the cup you have to win 4 7 game series after an 82 game season. That's much more of an achievement than an all star game making a medal round and winning 3 games in a row.

Because obviously the Canadian and American teams are always shut out of the medal round in international competition :sarcasm:

I know I don't give a flying **** about the Olympics and a Gold medal. Why don't you admit your insecurity for posting such a thread?

Except that the North Americans are right. The NHL *is* better than the Olympics and the rules of the Olympics really do suck.
