27. Dustin Penner, Anaheim - Late-bloomer was signed as a free agent from the University of Maine and he's progressed rapidly since turning pro. The 23 year-old power forward is 6-foot-4 and 245 pounds, but he also possesses surprisingly soft hands for a man so large. "His development has been rapid," Ducks coach Randy Carlyle told the Los Angeles Times. "He's come a long way in a short period of time."
26. Corey Perry, Anaheim - Junior scoring sensation is still adjusting to the pace of the NHL game, but the 20 year-old has been more of a contributor since getting recalled from a short stint in the AHL. Picked 28th overall in 2003, Perry has the hands and instincts to be a point producer, but he needs to keep getting stronger in order to handle the rigors of the NHL. Perry described the adjustment that he and fellow rookie Ryan Getzlaf have had to make, telling the Globe and Mail, "We've found there's a huge difference in the NHL. Everybody here is older, stronger, skates quicker. Everything is one step quicker, so you adjust. You're not playing against 17 or 18-year-olds any longer."
16. Ryan Getzlaf, Anaheim - Developing power forward responded well to an early stint in the AHL, dominating the minors to earn his recall. Perry's running mate seems like a good fit as a second-line winger and he's put up 14 points in 32 games with the Ducks.
13. Chris Kunitz, Anaheim - Signed as a free agent out of Fresno State, 26 year-old Kunitz had a couple minor league seasons under his belt entering this season, then couldn't find a home as the Ducks waived him, only to be claimed by the Thrashers. After a short stay in Atlanta, the Thrashers waived Kunitz and the Ducks brought him back into the flock. After all that, Kunitz has displayed a deft scoring touch, with 14 goals in 45 games.
didn't expect to see kunitz that well positioned...

Yeah, but Fresno State? That's a pretty big gaffe.

7. Francois Beauchemin, Anaheim - Seemingly a throw-in as part of the Sergei Fedorov trade, the 25 year-old has been a revelation, especially on the offensive end of things. He's now playing close to 30 minutes a night and has 21 points and a plus-1 rating in 33 since games since arriving in Anaheim. No matter what happens with the other players involved in that deal, Beauchemin is a steal.

That would be cool if pro-hockey players actually started coming out of colleges like Fresno St.

Yeah, were is Bryz? I'd think he at least be in the 50-40 range.

The goalies only went up to 15, and on that list, I would have put Bryzgalov third.

In the column on the top rookie goaltenders, I totally missed Anaheim's Ilya Bryzgalov -- no excuse other than I thought he had played more games. He would have fallen in the 5-6 range, I think.

Where's Parenteau? ;)
Do you think he will play his first Nhl's game this year? Is it possible? He's almost 1 point per game...

Probably not this year, but he has a reasonable chance of making the team next year. :)
