Will Slovakia finally beat Czechs in big tournament(they won only once in semifinal 3 years ago)? They won group with full points, showing some great hockey.

Well, this is some suprise. Vokoun was shaky, that is for sure, but he used to play good in big matches as far as I remember. Risky move by Czech coach, I would say. Hnilicka had 2 solid periods during the match against team Canada, but that does not say much as offensive activity was obviosly on Czech side and Czechs significantly outshot the opponent by 26-8 SOG during 2nd a 3d period!!! So 8 shots stopped by Hnilicka. :amazed:

It's very risky to put Hnilicka to net today, because of fact that he stopped big two chances from only 8 shots.
But problem with Vokoun is that his confidence is really low right now, and he seems quite unstable mentally right now. I would put Vokoun to net anyway....i think he should come up big today, but Czech coach is crap :cry:

i guess it has something to do with the fact that canada didn't play last 2 peroids :dunno: . i haven't seen the game though just read about it

Should be a fun game but Hnilicka starting in goal scares me quite a bit. I expect a high scoring game. My prediction:

Czechs: 6
Slovaks: 5

Should be a great game, I wish I could watch it live. We need Jagr to dominate and for Hemsky to finally do something more then just skate in circles around the net. I thought Hnilicka should of gotten the start yesterday so that Vokoun could rest. Now we have a nice little goalie controversy :madfire: . But in the end I have to go with my heart and say 3-2 Czech's.

The Czechs have been most dissapointing so far. Vokoun has been very shaky and cost them the game vs Canada. Czechs going down to Slovakia I think.

Too much firepower working as a team for the Slovaks. There defense has been really good so far too, granted they have two of the best d-man in the NHL this season, but wow is Meszaros good. He'll be at the Chara and Visnovsky star level very soon.

Czechs have now resorted to playing Milan Hnilicka, obviously not what they expected going into this tourney with Vokoun and Hasek.

I don't think it's a terrible move to bench Vokoun, he was clueless on the first two Canadian goals yesterday. I think they are going with the goalie that probably won't lose the game singlehandedly, which is what Vokoun did yesterday. Perhaps Vokoun is just tired, but he looked awful yesterday. I'll take 8 saves on 8 shots (if only 2-3 good chances) over 3 goals allowed on 8 shots (and just as few or fewer "real" chances).

Also should put pressure on Czechs to take the game to Slovakia and try to spend most of the game in Slovakia's zone, as they did the last two periods vs. Canada.

No one can tell in these tournaments. Huge game from both teams.

We played great 40 minutes of hockey against Canada and that kickstarted us. We didnt slow down at this one. This was a game waaaaay more emotional for Slovaks than Czechs. There were 5-0 in tournament and now a loss with Czech will hurt again for some time.

Frantisek Hossa ends his tenure with Slovaks, this was his last tournament.

Now Sweden vs. Czech ? ? ?
I feel confident with our team but Swedes was always tough team to play against. When they play muscle game against us, they are better. First goal will tell 70 pct of the game.

As I said before Slovakia has a great team but they're not playing puck-possession as well as the Czechs, Finns, Russians and Swedes. Slovakia's game is based on the speed of its leading forwards like Hossa and Gaborik. But from my point of view in none of their games did Slovakia control the play very much, except the USA. Add the complex thing, and you've got an explanation for this loss.

But Slovakia has improved a lot, and I hope that they take this tournament as a positive experience for the future.

Disagree. Everybody can be beaten. We stiffled speedy Slovaks with great talent to one goal. Whoever will be in finals, these game are usually low scoring game. We can play defense against anybody.

Hinlicka came through big, team played smart, patient hockey, which they can do as well as anyone. Good to see Ruckinsky and Hejduk get goals.

I know Sweden is very good team, but this is as good a draw as you can hope for in semifinal. Sweden has the pressure to get Czech monkey off their back, and Czechs avoid having to play (gulp) Russia or Finland (with the bad blood between them).

I thought whoever won today's last two games would play in final, and I still believe that to be true. Czech-Russia could be another clinic (and a nailbiter to boot).

Very disappointed in the Slovaks losing. As a Flyers fan, at this point I guess I am rooting for Niittymaki to continue to play well. I guess I would cheer for the Czechs as a team.

Agreed. When they showed the replay, I immediately thought of HF where he is always described as he doesnt play defense.
