Miller Time 02-19-2006, 07:59 PM Hey Ducks fans,
I guess some of you have been following the Olympics... and seen how incredible the duo of Koivu-Selanne is (lethinen rounds out the line nicely, but from what I've seen, the Chemistry between Koivu-selanne is what really shines),
so I have 2 questions for you:
1- What would it take from the Habs to land Selanne. (please try to come up with something reasonable)
2- What would you give up to land Koivu?
Keep in mind that Selanne is on a 1 year contract (so could sign anywhere next year, and Koivu just resigned for 3 years @ 4.75 per)
here are my opening thoughts:
1- To Anh: Zednik, conditional draft pick (2nd if selanne signs for next season or longer, 3rd if he doesn't re-sign)
To Montreal: Selanne
2- To Anh: Koivu
To Montreal: Getzlaf, Salei
Kevin Forbes 02-19-2006, 08:19 PM Option 1: No.
Option 2: Less.

Koivu has an no-trade clause for 3 more years.....
TheJoeMan 02-19-2006, 09:03 PM Both teams would be crazy to give up either guy. Having said that I agree those too have a great chemistry but so do Teemu and Andy McDonald. it's imparative that Burke resigns Teemu before the playoffs so he can remain a Duck for the rest of his career.
There's no chance of the three Fins playing anywhere other than in a Finland jersey. It's going to take huge over payment by a GM to get one of the plays, and then again to get the next. I can't see that happening. They haven't always played well with there only being two, so you need all three to have the effect.

Or Dallas.
McDonald19 02-19-2006, 10:38 PM Selanne has had two chances to sign with Montreal and play with Koivu and instead he signed with Colorado and Anaheim.
Selanne enjoys playing with Koivu on team Finland, but it's never been a priority for him to play with Koivu in the NHL.
Neither of those trade proposals work, especially the Getzlaf proposal.
Koivu is going to finish his career in Montreal, Selanne is going to finish his career in Anaheim.
ILuvLA 02-19-2006, 11:26 PM Selanne will be the 1st Duck to have his jersey raised to the rafters. He's not leaving Anaheim.
Jerky Leclerc 02-19-2006, 11:34 PM Selanne will be the 1st Duck to have his jersey raised to the rafters. He's not leaving Anaheim.
True dat but he won't be the first duck to have a bronze statue. That honor belongs to Wild Wing!

Well, the problem is Koivu isn't significantly better than Andy McDonald right now. They are pretty similar players (IMO). Koivu IS better, but McDonald has a salary of 627k compared to almost 5 million.
Put all of that together and this deal makes no sense for Anaheim.
dannoabram 02-20-2006, 02:40 PM what about zednik and ribiero for selanne ?? might that somewhat work ?
Tuggy 02-20-2006, 02:51 PM Koivu is going to finish his career in Montreal, Selanne is going to finish his career in Anaheim.
Yup and the sooner people accept that, the sooner we stop hearing about these types of propsals.

The fanboys can't help it ... just look at their trade proposals on these boards, they're not the kind of people who have a particularly strong grip on reality.
BraveSirRobin 02-20-2006, 04:30 PM what about zednik and ribiero for selanne ?? might that somewhat work ?
No. Why would we trade one of our most productive players for two forwards who've been stuggling the entire season?
Randall Graves* 02-20-2006, 05:13 PM So let me get this straight
You think Zednik and a pick is worth Selanne, but Koivu is worth Getzlaf and one of our top 3 defensemen even though Koivu is now overpaid and Selanne having a much more productive year?
Zednik sucks.
afterhours 02-20-2006, 08:38 PM Why in the world would we want to trade Selanne? Even hypothetically, it's stupid. I refuse to participate.

NONE to both!

I know, huh! That some wishful thinking on their part. :shakehead
Selanne is NOT leaving! I honestly believe the Ducks would never again let him go! PERIOD.
