With wins over the two pre-tournament favourites in the Czechs and Canada, are the Swiss a serious threat to medal?

Agasthya 02-18-2006, 01:10 PM With wins over the two pre-tournament favourites in the Czechs and Canada, are the Swiss a serious threat to medal? If their goalies play out of their freakin' minds like in the last two games, then yes. Otherwise, no way. Hockeycanada* 02-18-2006, 01:14 PM They have a chance every game with those two goaltenders. Le Golie 02-18-2006, 01:16 PM I don't agree. To be a SERIOUS threat, you need more than just goaltenders. Lack of skill and team depth will catch up to them when the big teams start taking things seriously. The Swiss have had great success so far, but I don't consider them legitimate contenders at this point. LuigiStone 02-18-2006, 01:19 PM Well if they get to play against the Czechs and the Canadians in the playoffs. :biglaugh: Mr. Penguin 02-18-2006, 01:26 PM With wins over the two pre-tournament favourites in the Czechs and Canada, are the Swiss a serious threat to medal? No. If Canada and Czechs would've played seriosuly, Swizerland would have lost both games... jcpenny 02-18-2006, 01:33 PM No. If Canada and Czechs would've played seriosuly, Swizerland would have lost both games... True but now its time to stop underestimate opponents. Czechs and Canada were guilty of that. To beat the Swiss its simple, take the lead like Finland did. BlackLabel 02-18-2006, 01:33 PM No. If Canada and Czechs would've played seriosuly, Swizerland would have lost both games... They played seriously. Gerber/Aebi just robbed them. HABS_FrEaK 02-18-2006, 01:34 PM They WILL make it to a medal game, if they beet italy and germany, chich they prob will, they will prob finnish 1st in the division which means they will play against the 4th team in the other division which will prob be the states...and mark my words they WILL beat the states and make to the semis. SammyTheBull 02-18-2006, 01:36 PM Don't under estimate Slovakia. :) BlackLabel 02-18-2006, 01:37 PM They WILL make it to a medal game, if they beet italy and germany, chich they prob will, they will prob finnish 1st in the division which means they will play against the 4th team in the other division which will prob be the states...and mark my words they WILL beat the states and make to the semis. If Finland beat Czech/Canada and Germany we will take the 1st spot of the group. willie 02-18-2006, 01:38 PM They have - at best - a 1 in 4 chance of winning a medal game. Derive from that what you will. and mark my words they WILL beat the states and make to the semis. Marked. I'd put $50 on the States. This is still essentially an AHL team with a pair of NHL goalies going up against all NHL teams. Vikke 02-18-2006, 01:40 PM No. If Canada and Czechs would've played seriosuly, Swizerland would have lost both games... :shakehead :dunno: :help: That is all. This is still essentially an AHL team with a pair of NHL goalies going up against all NHL teams. thats the key word here knight44 02-18-2006, 01:58 PM Its not all goaltending for the Swiss, they play amazing as a team. Their D stick to the front of the net to prevent rebounds, the hit like theirs no tomorrow. When they get great chanes they just seem to go in, So if the Swiss keep this up i think they can win a medal! But no one knows which medal that will be. Plus Abby and Gerber have basically just stood on their heads in back to back games! if they keep that up then the swiss wont be blown out if they lose. HABS_FrEaK 02-18-2006, 01:59 PM Don't under estimate Slovakia. :) Im not, if the states finnish 4th its because slovakia will be in the top 3 in the division. And i know the finns can still win the division, i just doubt that they will beat 2 world class teams who were just humiliated by the swiss. And i say humiliated not because i think the swiss played bette, but because does 2 teams are suposed to beat the swiss Jazz 02-18-2006, 02:03 PM No. If Canada and Czechs would've played seriosuly, Swizerland would have lost both games...So they did not play seriously? What, are they only here for fun then? :shakehead BlackLabel 02-18-2006, 02:04 PM Im not, if the states finnish 4th its because slovakia will be in the top 3 in the division. But I know, it's gonna be very hard to do so. jadeddog 02-18-2006, 02:05 PM in a 1 game elimination tournament EVERY team is a medal threat, the swiss included of course MrAlfie 02-18-2006, 02:12 PM as much as i like to see the underdog perform well, im not very positive switzerland is goin to make it far. Caz 02-18-2006, 03:13 PM But Finland needs to beat only one of them. But I know, it's gonna be very hard to do so. Team FIN needs to take 4pts from the remaining 3 games to win the group. The big egde is the 5-0 over SUI earlier, even if 3 teams would end up in equal points. I don't want to take away anything from the Swiss victory today, it was a great win, but to get a medal, the Swiss team should do the same miracles still another 3 times. I don't think that's very probable, but of course anything is possible. BlackLabel 02-18-2006, 03:28 PM Team FIN needs to take 4pts from the remaining 3 games to win the group. We must win Canada or Czech AND Germany to win the group. 88Bottles 02-18-2006, 03:38 PM I really don't think they are contenders. This is only the round robin tournament. Until the elimination begins, these games mean nothing to Canada. Big Phil 02-18-2006, 03:41 PM So they did not play seriously? What, are they only here for fun then? :shakehead Yeah I think so. Or maybe they think so. you dont come on in the third period when you're down two goals and expect to win all of the sudden. If I was Quinn I'd have hung every one of the players not named Rick Nash today. How the Swiss beat Canada is beyond me. Hey give credit to them, they won what can you say. If Canada wants to play like a bunch of boys then they'll be watching the Gold medal game back in Canada. Personally I'm extremely ashamed of the Canadian team. Boy I'll bet Wayne and Janet are glad they didnt bet on this game. Tritsche 02-18-2006, 03:57 PM No way. The swiss are a solid team but not more. I am swiss but you must be realistic for us the olympic games is already a big success. We have only 3 players in the nhl but I think players like Bezina, Vauclair, Plüss and Fischer have the skill to play in the nhl. The problem is that, this is not enough to be one of the top teams. In both games we were outplayed by the other team and our goalkeeper were the only reason for this 2 upsets. By the way our best player is not here. His name Julien Sprunger he is awesome and is drafted by Minnesota he will be a nhl player in a few years for 80%. MojoJojo 02-18-2006, 04:28 PM No. If Canada and Czechs would've played seriosuly, Swizerland would have lost both games... I didnt see the Czech game, but Canada dominated their game. It came down to Gerber Vs Canada, especially in the third period. Sometimes all it takes is a hot goalie. Caz 02-18-2006, 07:51 PM That's what I meant. We must win Canada or Czech AND Germany to win the group. Actually ties against both CZE and CAN would have done the trick with a win over GER. But now a 2-3 goal loss to CAN still brings us to winning the group, if GER is beaten on Tuesday. | ||
