I think the US will need to come out strong and establish a physical tone to the game early. Make the Slovakian forwards pay for trying to carry the puck in and forechecking hard to wear down some of the smaller defensemen. Don't try to get too fancy, play a straight forward simple game.

Either way though, we'll need some big saves from whoever gets the nod in net, as there's a good chance this game will come down to goaltending.

I think the US will play very well in this game. We had two lines clicking last game. Giont-Gomez-Tkakchuk and Drury-Weight-Guerin. If Modano can start to get going we should be in good shape. I have a feeling Grahame gets another shot in goal.

If we can score at a good pace against Budaj, which we should be able to, the US can win this game. But whoever is in goal for the US has to be on top of his game.

A tie with Latvia, and an unconvincing 4-1 win over the worst team in the tournament has me leaning towards a fairly easy win for Slovakia, but I think it will be close.

Probably because the schedule is much more compressed here, and the lockout might have affected the play as well. But I agree, this game is worth watching.

Team USA is a lot different than they were 4 years ago...it's really a buffer year between the old guard with the Tkachuks and Modanos and the younger generation with the likes of Cole, Gomez, and DiPietro.

We still had Hull, Roenick, and a goalie who we knew what to expect from in Richter.

Another awesome period. I love that the ref is letting them play, it's refreshing to see some 5 on 5 hockey after that Canada-Switzerland penalty fest.

End of the 2nd. 1-1. That goal by Hossa was because Hatcher vacated his zone by going for the hit on Demietra. He laid him out, but it allowed for Hossa to walk right in on Dipietro. Bad choice to take himself out of position. He played it like even strength.

oh ok - I was flipping between this game and the Fin/CZE game and came back to this game when the puck was dropping.

Tkachuk made a great play on the goal by holding the line and drawing the defensemen to the inside, which gave Rolston the left half of the zone to himself.

It was his fault that they were on the powerplay, yes. However, it could have been killed with a little execution by the players still on the ice. Hatcher blew an assignment and it cost us a goal. That's what I meant by that.
