Hasek and Elias leave TurinLeo Naphta 02-17-2006, 06:47 AM They will be replaced by Dusan Salficky and Ales Kotalik. http://www.torino2006.org/ENG/OlympicGames/news/news_eng161326.html Raimo Sillanpää 02-17-2006, 06:48 AM ouch. Pothier 02-17-2006, 07:03 AM Yesssssssssss! Tuggy 02-17-2006, 07:05 AM :banghead: Elias was my first pick in an Olympic pool. I can kiss any chance of winning that goodbye. shawn_kemp* 02-17-2006, 07:08 AM Hasek shouldn't have been named to the team in the 1st place. He's way too old, and overrated. Corto 02-17-2006, 07:18 AM Ugh, major , major blow for the Czechs. :shakehead Havlat, Elias, Prucha... Three guys that can actually put the puck in the net on a consistent basis. Hopefully Kotalik can help them there, so they don't have to rely that much on the two-way guys and pass-first guys like Cajanek, Bulis, Erat, Hemsky, etc.... to get some goals. MartinFr 02-17-2006, 07:26 AM Ouch, and the Czechs haven't impressed me at all in the first games. Leo Naphta 02-17-2006, 07:28 AM Yesssssssssss! :shakehead helicecopter 02-17-2006, 07:39 AM :( :( gobolt7 02-17-2006, 07:50 AM That is not good news at all. SensRbest 02-17-2006, 08:02 AM Hasek shouldn't have been named to the team in the 1st place. He's way too old, and overrated. Oh ! :madfire: SChan* 02-17-2006, 08:04 AM bye bye! jagr is still there however. reaper 02-17-2006, 08:13 AM Bad luck for the chechs, no good sportsfan should wish for injuries on other teams players. Especially not to a legend like Hasek. Hopefully someone else steps up for you. TOPGUN 02-17-2006, 08:14 AM That is tough losing 2 key players CSKA 02-17-2006, 08:16 AM Dont get me wrong but maybe now they start playing better :dunno: khy206 02-17-2006, 08:21 AM Hasek shouldn't have been named to the team in the 1st place. He's way too old, and overrated. Oh, I didn't know that. Thanks for the good information. :sarcasm: Frogurt 02-17-2006, 08:34 AM I wouldn't count them out just yet. It hurts to lose somebody with the international experience of Hasek, but talentwise it's a lateral move with Vokoun taking his place (despite a shaky performance against the Swiss). And wasn't Elias originally not on the team due to injury? I may be mistaken on that... DevilsFan38 02-17-2006, 09:14 AM I wouldn't count them out just yet. It hurts to lose somebody with the international experience of Hasek, but talentwise it's a lateral move with Vokoun taking his place (despite a shaky performance against the Swiss). And wasn't Elias originally not on the team due to injury? I may be mistaken on that... No, he wasn't originally on the team because they weren't sure how he'd be able to come back from the hepatitis. He was added to the team when Prucha was injured. That is a huge blow for the Czechs, luckily they still have Vokoun but they don't have the goaltending depth they did for the back to back games. And Elias has been playing great, losing him is also a big blow. Skrymir 02-17-2006, 09:18 AM :shakehead He's a fellow sens fan who is glad Hasek is coming back instead of risking further injury in the Olympics. We need him if we're to have a chance at winning the cup. Skrymir 02-17-2006, 09:21 AM Hasek shouldn't have been named to the team in the 1st place. He's way too old, and overrated. Excuse me? :shakehead He is not 'too old' as demonstrated by his play for the sens this season, nor is arguably one of the best goalies ever overated. Frogurt 02-17-2006, 09:22 AM No, he wasn't originally on the team because they weren't sure how he'd be able to come back from the hepatitis. He was added to the team when Prucha was injured. And Elias has been playing great, losing him is also a big blow. No doubt Elias is the most rounded Czech player, but they were one of the favorites going in without him named to the team, became an even better team with him added, and now back to their original status: great but could be better. I think the biggest question is how the rest of the team responds to this. The impact of losing two great players on this team's confidence could actually be greater than the sum of the parts. Chimp 02-17-2006, 09:30 AM You just hate seeing really good players unable to perform. It takes away honour from the opposing team if they beat them as well. As for only having one really good goalie to rely on, welcome to Sweden's corner. ;) At least you don't miss your defensmen as well. And it could have been Jagr. Then I would really have said "Welcome to Sweden's corner." Leo Naphta 02-17-2006, 09:32 AM He's a fellow sens fan who is glad Hasek is coming back instead of risking further injury in the Olympics. We need him if we're to have a chance at winning the cup. He has one **** of a way of showing his appreciation to his goalie. Skrymir 02-17-2006, 09:39 AM He has one **** of a way of showing his appreciation to his goalie. I think it's the result most sens fans wanted (myself included). Many of us were hoping he would back out of the Olympics all together and rest considering the amount of games he'd been playing leading up to the Olympic break. Batman may have a little overenthusiastic with the news but it's a sentiment shared by many. It's because of appreciation for him and his importance to our team that he made the comment. Egil 02-17-2006, 09:42 AM I don't think losing Hasek is a major problem for the Czechs. It still wasn't clear who was going to start in the medal round for the Czech's, this simply makes the decision for them. Elias is a major loss though. Cheering because someone is injuried is always classless, no matter what the reason is. If he happens to play for your own team doesn't make things any better, quite the contrary. Skrymir 02-17-2006, 09:58 AM Cheering because someone is injured is always classless, no matter what the reason is. If he happens to play for your own team doesn't make things any better, quite the contrary. He's not cheering because he got hurt... frankly all of us here are worried that the injury is more serious than we're being led to believe. His "Yessssss" was more a sigh of relief that he wouldn't be in a position were he could injure himself more. I know I'm relieved that he's coming back and not staying in Turin. Does that make me 'classless' as well? 5minsforfighting 02-17-2006, 10:04 AM Hey.. they still have Vokoun ;) Leo Naphta 02-17-2006, 10:08 AM I know I'm relieved that he's coming back and not staying in Turin. Does that make me 'classless' as well? Being relieved is different than cheering, so not automatically. But still, I do find it odd that you guys are pleased that your own goaltender is out of the tournament. Surely it would have been better to hear that the injury wasn't worse than that he could play tomorrow even from Ottawa's standpoint. Nihilism 02-17-2006, 10:08 AM Great news for Canada Bad news for the Czechs gobolt7 02-17-2006, 10:14 AM Great news for Canada Really? Regardless of the Olympics, it appears that most of the people in Ottawa are pretty upset about this. Skrymir 02-17-2006, 10:14 AM Being relieved is different than cheering, so not automatically. But still, I do find it odd that you guys are pleased that your own goaltender is out of the tournament. Surely it would have been better to hear that the injury wasn't worse than that he could play tomorrow even from Ottawa's standpoint. The fact of the matter is that e is injured and I'd rather he comes back and can be evaluated and rehabbed by the teams staff. If he wasn't injured I would wish him all the best (except against Canada), but that's not the case, so I'm glad he's headed back to Ottawa. khy206 02-17-2006, 10:15 AM I don't think losing Hasek is a major problem for the Czechs. It still wasn't clear who was going to start in the medal round for the Czech's, this simply makes the decision for them. Elias is a major loss though. There are two reasons why losing Hasek is a big problem for the Czechs. First, Vokoun has to play every single game from now on. He played every single night for Nashville with heavy workload, now he has to play for his country without rest. You know how tight the schedule is. Second, now they don't have any insurance. What if Vokoun struggles? Are you gonna pull him and put Hnilicka in net? What if he injures? As a Sens fan, I'm glad that Hasek is out of Torino cause it can minimize the time for his recovery, though. therealdeal 02-17-2006, 10:27 AM Tough break for the Czechs. Phil333 02-17-2006, 11:43 AM Hasek shouldn't have been named to the team in the 1st place. He's way too old, and overrated. Yeah, how's his old and overrated play working out for the Sens so far? Yeah, that's what I thought. God Bless Canada 02-17-2006, 12:17 PM In 1998 and, to a lesser extent in 2002, the loss of Hasek would have been a fatal blow for the Czechs. Not anymore. Vokoun is every bit as tough to beat as Hasek. You can make a valid case for both being in the top 5 among NHL goalies. The Czechs will be every bit as tough to beat in the medal round. Now if Vokoun goes down.... Elias is a big blow. I've long maintained that he's the best all-round LW in the league. He's a threat offensively every time he's on the ice, but he's also a fine defensive player who can be used in any situation. He's a proven winner, too, with two Stanley Cup rings. Kotalik is a fine player in his own right, he's been scoring goals with Buffalo all year, but he's nowhere near Elias' calibre. I said before the tournament that the Czechs are the biggest threat to Canada. Despite these injuries, and the loss to the Swiss, I still think they're still the biggest threat. I still don't think they'll revert to the volatile Czechs we used to know and love so much. | ||
