Goalie Masks

A friend of mine gave me the following update regarding NHL players and their goalie masks:

(Nittymaki is wearing his) Flyers mask with an ugly light blue Torino sticker on the forehead. Gerber, Nabby, Grahame, Budaj, Kolzig, Vokoun... All those guys had NHL masks. The only country masks I've seen are Brodeur, Lundqvist, Aebischer... Corect me if I'm wrong though, going by memory.


Does anyone have any pictures of the masks that the goalies are wearing for this tourney?

Luongo also has a canadian mask after wearing his Florida Panthers mask in the past world championships and world cup.

And Hasek was wearing his ugly Ottawa mask while he got injured yesterday.

I read Lundqvist is wearing a mask with Swedish colors but with the Statue of Liberty on it. As a Rangers fan it'd be hard to root against Sweden if he's keeping some NY with him there :)

Yeps, quite ugly helmet, not the statue of liberty but the whole thing, not very clean.

Someone posted some pics of Brodeur's mask in another thread (http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=220440). It looks pretty nice, it's got a black background with red flames, the team Canada logo on the forehead, and I think it says Torino on the chin.

I love Aebeischer's mask, if anyone has any pics that would be sweet. I was kind of surprised more goalies didn't have custom masks made for the Olympics.

I love Brodeur's mask, I think having nationally specific masks are really a nice touch on top of the Olympic uniforms. I know Canada also does it for the World Juniors, we take this stuff seriously, heh.

i actually liked Henke's helmet, the Statue of Liberty is not so noticeable but when u do see it its nice..

Brodeur looks like he weighs 500 lbs in that picture! :biglaugh:

I like Lundqvist's design, and he's always used masks with a similar theme to his club team in the national team as well, hence the Statue of Liberty.

Here's Stefan Liv, he uses the same masks he uses with HV71 in Sweden.

<----DiPietro is using his NYI helmet which just happens to be USA themed regularly. It features the helicopter which his father piloted in Vietnam and apparently he has been getting a lot of letters from soldiers and veterans supporting him because of it.

Brodeur's mask is incredible.

Representative, and both original and sober...

Lundqvist and Nabokov have the best ones IMO. Nice designs that add elements of both their national and NHL teams. I like the subtle way the Statue of Liberty is embedded into Lundqvist's design.

I think DiPietro's mask is a little different than his Islanders one, isn't it? I like that it has an Italian flag on one side and an American one on the other. And his pads are awesome too.

Lundqvist's mask is called "Tre Kronor" and Turco apparently has two, "Canadian Gargoyle" and "Canadian Gargoyle of Darkness". There's also a mask in the gallery called "The Eagle", which is a mask that Eddie Belfour would've used in the national team, had he been selected.
