Matti_A 02-16-2006, 05:53 AM I'll be dissapointed if we can't score 10+ goals today.
Italy should have lost most of it's mental strenght against big brother Canada.
Ikken should get the SO too.
shawn_kemp* 02-16-2006, 05:54 AM Finland get ready to be booed!
Padawan 02-16-2006, 05:55 AM I think the best way to describe this game is a goal scoring practise session for team Finland. I am disappointed if Team Finland doesn't score more than five goals. I addition to that, a shutout would be nice but not important. At the end the victory is all that matter but I'd expect a nice win for us from this game.

No. Gunther Hell is in goal for Team Italy.

Yeah, weak finishing attempt by J.Jokinen. He should have scored.
Padawan 02-16-2006, 06:23 AM Hahaha Italy has hell in goal :biglaugh:
Don't laugh. He has stopped two breakaways when I write this. He could very well make hell for Team Finland if he continues to play like this.
Finnpin 02-16-2006, 06:24 AM Italian goalie seems to be playing a helluva game :)
YungGunner94 02-16-2006, 06:25 AM one hell of a goalie
Raimo Sillanpää 02-16-2006, 06:28 AM our only idea on powerplays seems to be shoot from the blueline.. they need to try a russian powerplay, pass the puck around round round then shoot from lot closer..
Qui Gon Dave 02-16-2006, 06:28 AM Some people just require a big stage to break out on, maybe this is the chance for Hell to break loose.
Maybe if Italy and Slovakia both get through, we could see Satan take on Hell, that'd be a fun match-up.
But seriously, I can't watch the game at the moment but was wondering how Saku Koivu has looked today and yesterday, is he still in the slump he was in before the break in Montreal or has he looked like his old self again?

Padawan 02-16-2006, 06:38 AM First period 0-0. Team Italy has fought well and played well defensively. Disappointing for Team Finland though. Two breakaways, multiple PP situations and no goals after first. Next period I'm expecting a totally different team Finland to emerge. More intelligent play, more movement and a good result.
Matti_A 02-16-2006, 06:39 AM Dangerous scoring chances 3-3 :shakehead
We wont se double digits for Finland today thats for sure.

Qui Gon Dave 02-16-2006, 06:43 AM buh-dum CRASH! :yo:
I thought the line you quoted was very good too. I wanted to add that it seems like Team Finlands ability to score goals has Gun-ther Hell, but that might be pushing it a bit. Hopefully Finland will figure this guy out in the 2nd 'cos from what i'm reading here, it seems like he is the only thing standing between Finland and the 2 points. Unless the goalie gets injured, then if Finland win they can say they went through Hell for the 2 points.
Ok, no more puns from me
mattihp 02-16-2006, 06:46 AM Called my brother and he says that Jere looked splendid in the first... Maybe he'll be our first scorer in this game?
If Hell gets a shutout today, I'll counter with one of my own tomorrow...
(I've played 3 games as a goalie and have let in 3+7+15 =25 goals)

Are you expressing your fear? Any signs of panic yet? :D
TheRedressor 02-16-2006, 06:48 AM I wonder if Hell can keep this up. However Italy needs to capitalize on their chances. The Finnish goaltender doesn't seem anything special.
Finnpin 02-16-2006, 06:51 AM Are you expressing your fear? Any signs of panic yet? :D
There's no need to worry. This has happend before with weaker opponents. Finland will score 2 goals next period and 2 or 3 in the last.

Padawan 02-16-2006, 07:08 AM How has Saku looked so far at the Olympics?
Saku has looked ok so far. The usual Saku I've seen in the national team games.
Finnpin 02-16-2006, 07:09 AM How has Saku looked so far at the Olympics?
He's been ok, but he can play hell lot better. We need Saku to be the maestro on the ice when heading up the bigger teams.

Teppo has scored one goal in the tournament so far. He scored the second goal against Switzerland.
Finnswiss 02-16-2006, 07:16 AM It was Petteri Nummelin, but I think the shot was deviated by J. Jokinen

Jimmi Jenkins 02-16-2006, 07:20 AM Wow the Fins are dominating, is there anywhere i can watch this game?
Qui Gon Dave 02-16-2006, 07:22 AM Cheers Padawan and Jokeri, hopefully as the competitions rolls on, Saku will step his performances up a level with each game and by the time the Olympics are over he will return to Montreal in top form for the playoff stretch. If he happens to have an Olympic gold medal (and/or one of those places on the IOC competition commitee thing he is eligible for) then i certainly wouldn't mind.
Finns starting to look a bit tired. Italy sucks, a bunch of Canadian-born thugs who can't play a lick and somehow got Italian citizenship.

Padawan 02-16-2006, 07:27 AM Wow. What a beauty by team Finland. Nummelin with a delitful pass and Peltonen with a great shot just inside the upper corner pipe. Oh, right... This was a PP goal.
Edit: Finnish players are testing Norrena as well since the italians has done so poorly lately. :D
mattihp 02-16-2006, 07:27 AM All thanks to Norrena who does a great job keeping the puck in play on the PP. Norrena not credited with an assist, someone got in between.

4-0 score by Ville Peltonen
I'm a little bit worried that the Finns only score in powerplay.
Well, in this game it´s hard to score 5on5 because Finland is almost all the time on PP ;)
Robertsson 4-ever 02-16-2006, 07:32 AM This looks really good, go Finland!
Padawan 02-16-2006, 07:32 AM The second period is over and 4-0 lead for us. All the goals have been scored in the PP so at least the PP is working for us. Well done. Now the task left in the third is to score a couple even strenght goals as well. The team Finland added a little more movement and more intelligent play as I thought they would.
I am not worried that they haven't scored any 5 on 5 goals against Italy. The PP is working well and that should help with the better countries. Of course their PK is better too.

Jere had two great scoring chances in the second but was unable to score. IMO, this period we saw a worse Jere than in the first. All in all, I'm a little disappointed with Jere's performance so far despite the goal he scored.
Of course we get Niittymäki for the next games even if Norrena gets a shutout. That should be certain without a question.

They are toying with the italians. I think they should just score a goal rather than toying with them. A goal diffrential may be important later on. On the other hand, at least we are seing a good atmosphere in the team and a pure joy of playing the game.

Yep, and imo he didn't get too much help from his defensemen today. Italy could have had 2-3 goals easily if it weren't for Norrena.
I would have liked to see a couple more goals (especially from the 3:rd and 4:th line), but we got 2 points and that's all that matters.

Yes thats funny. The goalie situation in Switzerland is similar to Finns in many ways.

He plays in the 4th line, has not looked bad. That line is basically meant for games against better opponents...for a shutout role. Ruutu and Nieminen, the superpests are his wingers.

Not much icetime today... But he is a splendid 4th line centre... Hustles hard and doesn't shy away from anything.
