I think the best way to describe this game is a goal scoring practise session for team Finland. I am disappointed if Team Finland doesn't score more than five goals. I addition to that, a shutout would be nice but not important. At the end the victory is all that matter but I'd expect a nice win for us from this game.

Some people just require a big stage to break out on, maybe this is the chance for Hell to break loose.

Maybe if Italy and Slovakia both get through, we could see Satan take on Hell, that'd be a fun match-up.

But seriously, I can't watch the game at the moment but was wondering how Saku Koivu has looked today and yesterday, is he still in the slump he was in before the break in Montreal or has he looked like his old self again?

First period 0-0. Team Italy has fought well and played well defensively. Disappointing for Team Finland though. Two breakaways, multiple PP situations and no goals after first. Next period I'm expecting a totally different team Finland to emerge. More intelligent play, more movement and a good result.

I thought the line you quoted was very good too. I wanted to add that it seems like Team Finlands ability to score goals has Gun-ther Hell, but that might be pushing it a bit. Hopefully Finland will figure this guy out in the 2nd 'cos from what i'm reading here, it seems like he is the only thing standing between Finland and the 2 points. Unless the goalie gets injured, then if Finland win they can say they went through Hell for the 2 points.

Cheers Padawan and Jokeri, hopefully as the competitions rolls on, Saku will step his performances up a level with each game and by the time the Olympics are over he will return to Montreal in top form for the playoff stretch. If he happens to have an Olympic gold medal (and/or one of those places on the IOC competition commitee thing he is eligible for) then i certainly wouldn't mind.

The second period is over and 4-0 lead for us. All the goals have been scored in the PP so at least the PP is working for us. Well done. Now the task left in the third is to score a couple even strenght goals as well. The team Finland added a little more movement and more intelligent play as I thought they would.

I am not worried that they haven't scored any 5 on 5 goals against Italy. The PP is working well and that should help with the better countries. Of course their PK is better too.

Jere had two great scoring chances in the second but was unable to score. IMO, this period we saw a worse Jere than in the first. All in all, I'm a little disappointed with Jere's performance so far despite the goal he scored.

Nice to hear that Norrena is a humble professional :)

And Hagman needs to grow his hair back...

Yep, and imo he didn't get too much help from his defensemen today. Italy could have had 2-3 goals easily if it weren't for Norrena.

I would have liked to see a couple more goals (especially from the 3:rd and 4:th line), but we got 2 points and that's all that matters.

The Czech don't look as good as i thought they would, down 2-1 against the Swiss.
Looking forward to the game on Saturday.

Yes thats funny. The goalie situation in Switzerland is similar to Finns in many ways.

Finland is running the scores up. This is not good for hockey. They should withdraw ice hockey from the Olympics. It's simply not fair.

How has Mikko Koivu looked? Does he even get to play?

He plays in the 4th line, has not looked bad. That line is basically meant for games against better opponents...for a shutout role. Ruutu and Nieminen, the superpests are his wingers.

Not much icetime today... But he is a splendid 4th line centre... Hustles hard and doesn't shy away from anything.
