Will Elias NOT get the C?

I wonder what the hold up is in naming a captain, will Lou leave it up to the new coach to decide or whats going on? Im the first one (I think) with an Elias jersey with the captains C on it, even before Patty has it, haha.

I'd give Elias the 'C', but I think Lou is waiting for Elias to re-sign with the team first. It would be disappointing to give him the 'C' for a couple months and then he left in the summer.

It's possible they're waiting until Stevens' rafters night so he can pass it on to Elias.

When should they have given it to him? On the road?

He's still not 100 percent besides.

Yea true but it would be somethiing to see Capt Crunch hand the C to Elias.......BUt i dont think they will do that!

it will be cool to see stevens give elias the c but i want to wait till he signs next season...just to be safe.

According to Loughlin (I think I read it on MSGnetwork.com), Elias will likely be handed the "C" after Stevens' retirement ceremony.

Makes sense, and it would be a nice gesture and something the fans would adore. I could see it happening. Lou has pulled out many suprises this year, and I think this could be another one.

I think that is a cool idea to have him come out with the C for the Stevens game and onward.

Agreed and have speculated the same..in fact I feel I promoted the rumor here initially...sorry.

1) Niedermayer wasn’t going to be a UFA the next year after he had been given the C. He had 1 more year of RFA arbitration eligibility, which the lockout knocked out.

2) You learn from your mistakes. Lou saw the leadership void it created last time and may be weary to try it again.

IMO it would be perfect if Elias got the C tomorrow night from Stevens, AFTER it has been announced that he just signed a new multi-year contract. But hey, thats just me dreaming.

I think he hasn't been given the C before now because he hasn't been at full strength. I don't think it has much to do with beyond that. He definitely has the respect of his teammates, even those he hadn't played with though. Janssen's stood up for him in a couple games already.

I think the Devils are committed to Elias, he's committed to them and there won't be a problem with a deal. We'll see in the future if that's a naive viewpoint.
