Ronnie Bass 01-29-2006, 09:06 PM http://msn.foxsports.com/nhl/playerGameLog?categoryId=66913
In 21 games he has just one goal and two assists. And I don't buy any argument it's because he's lost on a bad team because Washington is not as bad as everyone might think as evidenced today with them beating the champs, which is very good for us.
I just don't get it, he has always been somewhat a underachiever, but like this???
It's not like he's sitting on the bench, if you look at his time on the ice he has been getting 12-18 minutes consistently. And even if it's on the fourth line you still expect alot better than this.
Jamie1 01-29-2006, 09:28 PM didn't he get injured for the rest of the year?. I don't think he likes playing in Washington.

Nah, he's played in the seven games, with no points either.
PhillyDevil 01-29-2006, 09:55 PM Did anyone ever figure out what we got from the Capitals for him? I remember some mention of a 2nd round pick. Is that correct? If so, what a steal.

Pretty sure it was a third.
Drake1588 01-29-2006, 10:28 PM Conditional pick, the highest pick being a third rounder. Presuming he doesn't re-sign (and there's little reason to think he'll be asked) it'll be a later pick than a third. From Ted Leonsis via e-mail, "our greatest exposure is a third." That came after a bunch of people here couldn't figure out exactly what the terms happened to be, at the time of the trade, and sent him an e-mail. So it's not necessarily a third rounder, and in all likelihood it will be a later-round pick.
Friesen played hurt early in the season, then went on the shelf for a long time recovering from the injury and resulting surgery. He's played now for a while but hasn't put it together in that time by any stretch. Not making excuses for him and he has done nothing to endear himself to Capitals fans by any means, but there were certainly some injury issues there for him this season. That said, I have no idea how he'll manage to get a job, much less a decent contract, over the summer.
I would think he'll go to a team's camp on a tryout contract and have to earn a roster spot.
devsjunkie 01-29-2006, 11:19 PM I don't think it's so shocking.
Jeff Friesen is a player who exists on emotion. He didn't fare well in Anaheim cause he loved San Jose. He didn't feel comfortable in Anaheim so he didn't play well there.
He played well in Jersey when he had Nieuwendyk-Langenbrunner with him. When he was asked to help carry a line after Joe left, he couldn't do it. Once in a slump, he's a hard guy to pull out of it.
dkball7 01-30-2006, 12:31 AM I wouldn't mind Lou getting him back bargain basement next year. He seemed to really like it in Jersey, and getting him back to play on the 2nd line would be nice... It beats having Marshall thrown out there.
borrachon 01-30-2006, 01:15 AM I wouldn't want him back unless he proves he can still play. Even then only at a low price.
Edit: When/why did he change his number to 41?

I read that it was a third rounder and the conditional part was that if he resigned they would get another lower round pick. Since I'm not even sure what exactly Leonsis is saying in that quote, I guess we'll find out closer to the draft.
Devilsfanatic 01-30-2006, 10:35 AM Friesen just doesn't like it in Washington, which is a shame, he should, they have freakin' AO.
GentlemanOfLeisure 01-30-2006, 11:53 AM He's on a passion strike till the end of the year, or the caps move him out to a contender.

Let me be of some assistance, then. He means that the highest pick Washington would give up is a third rounder. It could be a later pick. Anyway, we'll see in a few months.
devil122 02-03-2006, 09:06 PM I actually like him and wouldnt mind having him around
thefiestygoat 02-03-2006, 09:45 PM I actually like him and wouldnt mind having him around
I liked him too but I don't want to throw money at him with the cap. Maybe he would accept an invite to training camp next year and they can take it from there.
Mr Bugg 02-03-2006, 10:12 PM What's wrong with him? Exactly what was wrong with him in Anaheim. As much as people think he sucked in 2003-04, that was actually his best season on the powerplay and second-best at even strength over the past four seasons. Lou was able to put him in a role where he overproduced at ES:
2005-06:
-0.97 ESP/H
-0.00 PPP/H
2003-04:
-2.15 ESP/H
-3.52 PPP/H
2002-03:
-2.43 ESP/H
-2.32 PPP/H
2001-02:
-1.64 ESP/H
-2.51 PPP/H
As one can see, the major problem this year is his lack of powerplay production. I don't think he's on the first unit, and the second unit would be a various and sundry collection of terrible powerplay scorers.
DevilsFan38 02-03-2006, 10:17 PM I believe he was out on the first PP unit tonight in their game against Toronto (I know I saw him out there with Ovechkin at least once). Apparently he just got healthy, the announcers tonight were saying that the Caps game against the Isles on Tuesday was the first one that he felt really healthy for. Hopefully now that he's back to 100%, he'll produce a bit more.
stanleycaps98 02-03-2006, 10:24 PM He switched to 41 after he realized that Bondra's 12 was inappropriate. Screw Bonrda, Friesen should have kept it.
