octopi 01-27-2006, 03:59 PM Okay, admittedly I haven't seen every NHL team play every game(I'm so ashamed!) however I will metion these palyers as out-and-out scary to face in a shootout.
IMHO order:
1. Ovechkin
2. Jagr
3. Kovalchuk
4. Gagne
5. Alfredsson
6. Heatley
7. Nash
(And yes, I'm sure theres some people I haven't thought of)
SingnBluesOnBroadway 01-27-2006, 04:00 PM Actually, Jagr's not been a sure thing. Petr Prucha's been spectacular, though.
Yureeka47* 01-27-2006, 04:03 PM Jussi Jokinen should be #1
Vanucks 01-27-2006, 04:06 PM Jussi Jokinen should be #1
Hell yeah. 7-7 so far....
Frickin' unbelievable.
triggrman 01-27-2006, 04:12 PM Paul Kariya has been pretty good but he's not on the team..
octopi 01-27-2006, 04:14 PM Paul Kariya has been pretty good but he's not on the team..
Yeah, I think I only listed people who we actually know are going to the Olympics.
TheKingPin 01-27-2006, 04:17 PM you got to take Gagne off. He is very good but on shoot outs and breakaways alike he is horrible.
B Boarding 01-27-2006, 04:24 PM Sundin. Because he always scores when it matters the most. He has a killer backhand to go with excellent reach.
USC Trojans 01-27-2006, 04:28 PM Hemsky. Not only does he score on you, he makes you look silly in the process.
Kowalchuk 01-27-2006, 04:30 PM Sergei Zubov and Jussi Jokinen
banana phone 01-27-2006, 04:33 PM Jokinen hands down.
Ovechkin second place.
Brodeur 01-27-2006, 04:40 PM Another post for Jussi Jokinen. Viktor Kozlov's sole contribution for the last month has been as a shootout specialist. With the Olympics being a 5 man shootout, he might have a spot behind Ovechkin/Kovalchuk/Datsyuk/Zubov.

Finland is the best shootout team.
Brodeur 01-27-2006, 05:37 PM Finland is the best shootout team.
The sample space is far too small to really extrapolate anything. Just thought it would be nice to toss out some actual numbers to go along with "Player X has sweet moves" from posters touting their team's players.
Russia looks like it has the deepest 1-5 in terms of shooters.
BlackLabel 01-27-2006, 05:37 PM Finland is the best shootout team.
I don't know. Niittymäki isn't very good at shootouts.
SChan* 01-27-2006, 05:55 PM btw isn't there a sudden death until someone scores in olympics?
12# Peter Bondra 01-27-2006, 05:58 PM btw isn't there a sudden death until someone scores in olympics?
No.
Piggymon 01-27-2006, 07:06 PM Sundin. Because he always scores when it matters the most. He has a killer backhand to go with excellent reach.
Seconding this, I think NHL shootouts are one thing but you shouldn't underestimate clutch Sundin and his backhand / 5hole forehand. I guess Sakic is another one of those guys you'd trust with your life, even if he's failed in the shootouts this season...
kingsfan25 01-27-2006, 07:08 PM If you want to narrow it down, Team Slovakia.

Don't forget Ovechkin. Malik might be a one hit wonder. The guy has hands of stone. In shootouts though, anybody can be good.
The real players to fear are the goalies. Turco and Brodeur are amongst the best in shootouts in the tournament. Loungo isn't far behind either so really, it's Canada's goalies that are to be feared the most.

Stumpel went once in a shootout for sure.
He is atleast 0/1 (if not more).
vitogor 01-28-2006, 09:03 AM I must've missed something. I thought Zubov was skipping the Olympics for the umpteenth time. Did he change his mind?
My money's on:
Kovalchuk
Ovechkin
Vik Kozlov
Malik

psycho_dad 01-28-2006, 06:06 PM Now Jokinen is 8 for 8. Scored yet another shootout goal.

Lundqvist has been excellent in the shootouts as well. 23/28. Not sure how he did playing in Sweden, though. Only going by what i've seen this season.
12# Peter Bondra 01-29-2006, 09:07 AM Yup, 0/1. Wouldn't surprise me if I missed a couple more.
Actually, the one he missed, he deked out Antero N. completely but the puck stood up and he missed. Had the puck not stood up, he would have been 1/1.

dok101 01-29-2006, 01:45 PM Aside from being the NHL player with the most goals at the Olympic level (9), Miro Satan is quite capable at the shootout as well.

AfroThunder396 01-29-2006, 06:54 PM I think it should be meantioned that Gomez is 1/1 on penalty shots this year. My shootout dream team:
Jokinen
Kozlov
Malik
Ovechkin
Jokinen (again)
Slitty 01-29-2006, 10:41 PM Russia will probably feature something like:
1. Ovechkin
2. Datsyuk
3. Afinogenov
4. Kovalev/Kovalchuk/Whoever is Hot
5. Kozlov
If we didnt have Nabokov in net, I'd like our chances come a shootout.
DaMick 01-29-2006, 10:47 PM Malik id say...God only knows what next street hockey move he'll pull out
barfy2000 01-29-2006, 11:17 PM Marek Malik
langs15 01-29-2006, 11:33 PM To score- Kozlov
To protect the net- Brodeur
FoppaArGud 01-29-2006, 11:34 PM Alfredsson, Jagr (though he CHOKED in the WCs in Prague; devastation moment!), Foppa, Ovechkin, Kovalchuk.
Hasek and Vokoun both, man, Vokoun murdered the Flyers in our first shootout of the year.
Pretty much every team is dangerous. Lots of clutch players, too, like Hagman, Ruutu, Prospal, Dvorak etc that dont get that much attention.
I am really looking forward to seeing the great open ice defenders operate, if you ask me there is some marvelous defense in international play from guys like Lidstrom, Lehtonen, Handzus, etc. I think it has improved Chara a lot, too, he really has to shoulder a huge load and play in every spot for the Slovakian squad.

NYRGoalieGlut* 01-30-2006, 02:05 AM I hope that the Malik thing is toungue in cheek. I doubt he can pull off that move twice and that was a trick shot. Can he be relied on to score on a non-gimmick goal that the goalie might expect and has seen before?
